Update: Thank you everyone for the helpful advice and encouragement. Today I was contacted by a recruiter for a temp front desk position at a clinic. I am very grateful for the help to expand my searching beyond Indeed!
I recently moved here two months ago and I've been applying non stop for jobs. I'm taking a gap year from college and my plan was to be hired before Christmas but it's very difficult!
I do have extensive experience in customer service but it's difficult to even get a call back. When I call to ask if they're hiring I get " No but we're always accepting applications" or "not at this moment". But then why post a job then?
I did manage to get two interviews. One was paying $11 an hour but wanted me available all day/night while being scheduled mid shift but it's impossible to live off of that without a second job.
The next was a housekeeper position at a hotel and I was rejected even though I have 2 years experience in that field!? The housekeeping manager actually asked me in Spanish, "If you were born here why don't you work a better job in an office?" Trying to convince me this was hard work even though I've worked it before! I'm also a Latina but it made me upset that I was passed over for being "at an advantage" because there's no other reason I didn't qualify. I also practice good hygiene and was friendly so that's crossed out the list as well. Did anyone else experience this kind of situation?? Is it normal in MN?
I've even went to fast food places and asked in person for the hiring manager but always told to go online and apply.
I also want to add I have a clean record. I've worked in NY as a cashier, housekeeping, hospital translator, remote scheduling, and airport throughout high school (some years after hs) and college.
Is it just me or is anyone else having trouble getting a job?
If you've obtained a job recently, please share any tips! 😓

Hello everyone! Just recently moved here to this fine city, and I've been looking for a job in a restaurant, ideally as a server. I noticed there are very few postings on craigslist, and basically zero postings on culinary agents. I was living and working in restaurants in NYC for the last few years, and both of those websites are very active for hospitality jobs in nyc. So my first question is, how do you hospitality people go about looking for jobs? Do you just walk in with a resume and introduce yourself? Do you apply through the restaurant's website? what are the best strategies here in the twin cities? Would love to hear about your experience if you want to share.
Second question is, anyone have any suggestions for good restaurants to apply to as a server? Good in terms of good money but also good culture and good management. Ideally looking in Minneapolis or Saint Paul only.
Thank you so much everyone! I really appreciate any advice.
Hey, my name is Eli. I have LOVED cars since I was 4. Anyways, I need money to donate to St. Jude. I made a New Year's goal to donate to charity, and I haven't been caught up with it. So, I'm buying junk cars YOU don't want anymore and repairing them. From a crappy old 2002 Buick Regal in your backyard to a sweet vintage ride, I'll fix it. Email me @ bumbee553@gmail.com for more info.
I apologize in advance for asking a question related to moving. We greatly appreciate the kind answers to previous questions and have been taking notes to assist with our move.
My wife and I will be moving after the first of the year. If we could just pack and go, we would. We are in TN, and the hate is escalating quickly.
Locally, most employers use Indeed to post positions. There are obviously temp agencies that are walk-in type industrial positions without benefits. A few still depend on word of mouth (most desirable) or even the local FB page. We are in a large city with the second largest university in the state, but it is this competitive.
Are there any legitimate sites you can recommend? My background is transportation and have a BS Business Management. My wife has worked than a decade in manufacturing at the North American Nissan plant.

Looking to career transition into something in Marketing and found this class at St. Thomas Executive Education that is a Digital Marketing Fundamentals Class which looks promising. Any other recommendation for training that can help for someone looking to get into marketing?

I recently moved to MN and have applied to several jobs with the State. I've passed the initial screening for some of them, and I'm wondering if anyone has advice on the typical timeline from there. When do they usually contact you for an interview if you've passed the screening? Should I assume it's a "no" after two weeks, or four, or...? (I'm continuing to apply to other jobs, but I'd like to have a better sense of my chances with these.)
I have a lot of experience in various levels of IT support (help desk, administration, systems management, general management, and struggling to find work. Spent the last 12+ months looking and coming up empty handed.

Seems that my ownership of a photography company has been limiting the companies interested in talking to me as the few screener calls I've received recently have expressed concern of my programmer background and possibly seeking other employment - I will reiterate that I am seeking stable employment. Remote (WFH, not field) is great but not required.
Twin Cities general area is preferred for office-work.
Can start immediately.
Willing to work on compensation - as noted I am seeking stability not chasing a high(er) paycheck.
Experience with the following platforms:
I have been unemployed for a while and feel that my resume is being ignored because of my experience and not being taken seriously for the roles I'm applying for.
Thank you for your time.
Good Morning. I have recently completed trade school for the carpentry/construction trade, and I'm currently looking for any employment in this field. Unfortunately, I don't drive nor never have a license, however, I have no issues taking public transportation or biking to any job sites within the twin cities area. I'm 20 years old with a high school diploma, Carpenter certificate, and currently live in south Minneapolis. If more Infomation is needed, my emails are; BryshawnTyus1@gmail.com & Bryshawn.Tyus@summitoic.edu .
Thank you for your time.

Hello!! I’m currently an student that’s studying Environmental Science with a specialty in Applied Ecology. I’m out of state and have been looking at MN for a while as someplace i’d like to live once out of school. I’m interested in looking for internships (paid preferably) and/or a career. If anyone knows anything please don’t hesitate to say something. I’m also welcoming any advice when looking for a job as someone who lives outside the state of MN.
Hi all! I’m a 22 year old trans woman entering the job hunt.
I’m experienced in welding, grinding, polishing, wood working , and working with my hands. I am looking for job opportunities involving those skills.
I would prefer a job somewhere that is queer owned or at least accepting to all applicants. I live in Saint Paul , looking for a small fabrication shop or manufacturing workplace.
If anyone has any ideas to help me on my search, I would greatly appreciate any insight offered!
Hello All! My husband and I are originally from MN, moved to Seattle 3 years ago for work. Due to family situation, we are planning to move back to MN in June 2025 to take care of elder parent. I work fully remove, but my husband needs to find a new job.
My husband is cureently an equipment engineer/ lab manager for a big corporate company with Associate degree plus 10 years of experience in the field. While he is looking for jobs in MN, it seems like most engineering jobs requires at least a Bachelor's degree. He's been rejected for some positions due to not meeting educational requirements even though he has amazing 10+ years of work experience.
It's been stressful since we have the urgency to move back to MN for family reason, but we need to find a new job for him.
So, here I am, asking for advice about what we can do. And how is the general job market for Engineers in Twin Cities MN? Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!
Hello!
I moved to Minnesota from California mid June and I am having trouble finding employment. For those of you wondering why I would move without a plan, my husband and I moved for a career opportunity. All of my experience is in the education field as a former teacher. Outside teaching content, a lot of my experience revolved around data analysis, frequent communication with stakeholders, creating tiered intervention plans for students (they'd be failing and I would work with them to come up with a plan to bring up their grades in multiple classes), and onboarding students on an educational platform.
I've reached out to a few agencies (e.g. Robert Half and Ultimate Staffing), looked at city jobs, MN state careers, U of M, a few public school districts (e.g. Minneapolis, Hopkins, Eden Prairie, etc.) Linked-In, and Indeed. I've gotten a few bites and went on a couple of interviews but they haven't progressed past that.
I would like to take a career shift outside of education and when applying to school districts, my main focus was working in the district office level as a coordinator or a teacher trainer. Ideally I would like to go into project management, communications, marketing, or really anything that I can do to utilize what I've already learned.
I have linked my resume below to see if anyone could help me word it differently so I seem more employable. Please let me know if that's allowed.
Any help you guys could provide would be greatly appreciated.
I have been a welder for 5+ years as well as a personal trainer. I need an office job. Welding is destroying my body. I don’t have any college education unfortunately. But I’m 100% sure I can learn 90% of skills needed for a new job . I just need my foot in the door to prove myself

Good morning!
My name is Anthony and I currently work in the IT field in Wilmington, Delaware. I was wondering if I would be able to find people in my field (or related fields) who would like to network. I have plans to visit the twin cities over Labor Day weekend and would eventually like to relocate there within 2-3 years. I just want to be somewhat established in the professional community before I make that jump. Go ahead and leave a comment on this post or reach out to me directly and we can get to talking!
Thanks so much!

My fiancé and I are relocating to Minneapolis this fall , hopefully before October. I’ve been looking for a job since the beginning of this month and I am actively applying. No call back yet unfortunately. My background is in Compliance and I have a Bachelor’s Legal studies. Before we move I want to have a solid job offer and start date. Any recommendations on where I should look for jobs. Indeed has a bunch of fake ads so I haven’t been on there much. I’ve just been looking at state, county and city jobs. All responses are definitely appreciated!
We’re also looking to move in the downtown area so I would prefer areas surrounding that.
Thank you
