There are so many elements in this episode that are handled exquisitely (not spoiling anything) The emotions are dialed in so precisely, and the humor is always there. I seriously started watching the show just to see the Kendall's birthday episode she did and was thrilled to see her name again this season. She is such a talented director. I can definitely see some noms again for her this year.
A great episode , so much aftermath after last week’s shocking event.
Very different from her episode last year, which was a big flashy one. This was much more pared down. I think other than the first few minutes the entire thing took place in the one location?
Can’t wait for the remainder of the season.
I've been listening to Lorene's EPs all through the weekend and I LOVED them. The songs are beautiful, funny and she has a really sweet voice. Highly recommend if you haven't heard her music yet.
Both albums are available on YouTube and Spotify for free with one downside and that is that apparently one of the songs is missing : (
Where else can I find Laughter & Forgetting Lorene's first album?
cute, but am i missing something
I don’t know why I slept on this so long. It’s probably one of my favorite movies to come out at least in the last decade. It’s cinematically beautiful(no surprise) and the story is very heartfelt and raw and beautiful for lack of a better word. Lorene is a genius. It’s like wolf of wallstreet meets a warm mothers hug. If you haven’t seen it, rush your local Hulu or Jeffrey bezos.
I finally watched it last night and wow that's a lovely film. Highly highly recommend it! I think I will watch it with my mom the next time she visits.
Lorene's 2 older dogs (both sadly RIP now) have recurring appearances throughout the film and I LOVED that there were other animals too, chickens and a rabbit.
There are some interviews out there where Lorene confirms that this story is sort of embellished memoir, and her dad (named Joe in real life, too) did pass away in the late 00s, and afterward Lorene's mom moved to LA. It was interestingly meta of her to have her own character (named Lori, subtle) in the film write and shoot a TV show based on her own family, lol.
In short, super good film, I hope people appreciate it! Oh and Susan Sarandon knocked it outta the park.
####SPOILERS AHEAD#######
I cannot stop thinking about how much DLU is similar to SAF, not only for the obvious comet, but for the looming feeling of dread and impending doom during the whole movie. However it is pretty clear that, while DLU is a commentary on climate change denial and personal gain taken to the extreme, questioning the humanity of people in power, Lorene focused solely on the humanity and existential dread of extinction, that DLU explores very briefly in the final scenes, where everyone accepts their inevitable deaths and decides to spend it together with people they love. I remember watching an interview on SAF where Lorene said she wanted to depict the unspoken tragedy of common people, not the heroes that hold power or sacrifice themselves to save everyone, since common people never had any power to prevent or stop this, and once every option has failed they have to accept their deaths, in a long and nerve-wracking wait. DLU instead tries to prove that even people in power cannot stop this, because they are human after all, with all the negative selfish attributes and motives, egomaniacal to the point that they can jeopardize the entire earth for themselves, which is satire and feels very unrealistic, but who can be sure these days it is not a possibility after all :) Did anyone else have any similar vibes, or found any other parallels between movies?
It’s so heartfelt, funny, nuanced, and lovely. I can’t believe it didn’t do well when it came out. It’s so smartly written, and Susan is incredible!! Anyone else watch it?
I loved “seeking a friend” when it came out and obviously “hustlers” is incredible so it was nice to see all her films :)
