Lexitecture is a podcast about words, their origins and their history - otherwise known as etymology. It's hosted by Ryan (a Canadian) and Amy (a Scot) who both love words and nerdy language things enough to chat about a new pair of words each week. If you ever get excited by learning something new about how a word got to mean what it does today, this may be the podcast for you!

An apology

Hey friends and word-lovers!

I'd just like to say sorry for neglecting this sub as of late. Haven't even bothered putting episode posts up for many months now, which is entirely unacceptable. My dream for this was to sort of become its own little Reddit word nerd community where people post all kinds of things, but it's a bit rich for me to hold on to that when I can't even post episode links more regularly.

So consider this my honest-to-goodness attestation that I am going to try to make a more concerted effort not only to post episode links on the regular, but also to start sharing other wordy-nerdy stuff here so that things get going.

And on the back of that, I do hope that people will feel free to post their own links, thoughts, favourite words, shitposts, etc, as we hopefully make this a logophile haven.

Thanks for your ears over the years!

An argument to call all sliding screen doors, portcullis’

I also have never lived anywhere where I have had a portcullis, BUT if we are going off a basic definition of sliding doors a sliding screen door would fit in that category. Some of them have stainless steel which is technically iron and is a grate pattern! So I’m going to call them portcullis from now on. ☺️
