Letterboxing is an intriguing pastime combining artistic ability with "treasure-hunts" in parks, forests, and cities around the world. Participants seek out hidden letterboxes by cracking codes and following clues. The prize: an image from a miniature piece of art known as a rubber stamp—usually a unique, hand-carved creation.
Letterboxers stamp their discoveries in a personal journal, then use their own rubber stamp, called a signature stamp, to stamp into the letterbox's logbook.

Websites to find Letterboxing clues:
LBNA - Letterboxing North America This website is fairly older and sometimes may contain outdated clues. It can also sometimes have new clues that are not posted on Atlas Quest. Click the big red book to search the clue database.
AQ - Atlas Quest This website is typically a bit more update and current than the LBNA site. It's a good habbit to utilize both sites to get all of the available clues in your area.

When a hexagon themed tracker was posted, it was really tempting to carve a bee of some sort, but I’m quite happy with this simple image that could be printed on any shaped stamp. I’d like to carve more images like this in the future. Quisp was finished with liquid watercolors.
I’ve spent decades geocaching, but only recently heard about letterboxing. Managed to find 3 boxes so far, but quickly discovering that many boxes near me have either been lost/missing or have not been found for 10+ years. I carved my own signature stamp (eggs and bacon), and a stamp for my husband (it’s supposed to be his mustache). Excited to carve more and hopefully plant my own boxes at some point. :)
Trying to figure out what's kosher here... I don't want to be accidentally stealing anyone's art but also I'm not always the best at creating an original drawing.
I have u/dancew0nder to thank for getting me into letterboxing. I recently went to Japan. After learning about Letterboxing and making my stamp, I searched AQ to see if any were close to any of the spots in my itinerary. And there was one just off the path of a predestined spot. So I went looking for it, hoping it was still there.
Sure enough, after following the clues: I found my first international letterbox and first letterbox ever! I was elated to find it.
Just thought I'd share my tale from today!
According to AQ and LBNA, there are several boxes close to me, but they're all fairly old. The first two I tried to find were no dice, but the third time's a charm, as they say.
At the end of a fun hunt, following clues, I couldn't find the letterbox anywhere! I found a chunk of plastic that was from what I assumed was the broken letterbox. I gave one last desperate search, digging through the grass and found just the stamp in its little pouch!!
No more pieces of plastic or evidence of the logbook to be found, sadly. But I took the stamp with me (the place where it's hidden is easy to get to) and reached out to the planters. I've got a new box and logbook ready to go and plan to go back out tomorrow to re-plant it! Hopefully it all stays in tact.
I tried the method of using a craft knife first, and then the gouging tool, and I'm pretty happy with my first try 😊
Do you carry anything with you in your bag to clean the stamps in the letterboxes so the previous ink won't ruin your stamp pads?
How do you create logbooks? I'm looking to start simple, like buying something and decorating the cover. Does Amazon have anything good for this? I'm also open to suggestions for more creative logbook creation after I've done a few simple ones.
Hello! Wondering what methods you’ve used to secure your stamp to the container. I realize this shouldn’t be necessary for a well hidden letterbox, but I’d still feel better about it being tethered. I also realize where there’s a will there’s a way - but at least it wouldn’t be easy to swipe 💁🏻♀️
Thank you!
Made this stamp yesterday
Hi. I found a notebook I did for a mail letterbox when I was little around age 12, circa 2008. This was always the notes that stood out to me most.

Been collecting through out the US and so far I’ve collected in 6 different states! I can’t wait to place this little rowlet in TN!
Any tips for more than a plastic bag or a Tupperware to keep it safe?
Hi! I’m taking a trip to London and was thinking about planting a box while I’m there. I’ve never left the US, so do y’all have any advice for planting internationally?

Hi! I was wondering if anyone in Ohio is here and could help me out with a letterbox I couldn't find today. Thanks!
Just got home.
Awesome event.

I love the Rubbermaid 200ml plastic boxes for letterbox plants, but they are expensive. Where do all of you get your boxes from without spending a lot of money?
From my understanding, I have to have a stamp. But, what do I put on the stamp?
You know who this is for.
YES!
YOU!
…This would be it. Clue said to search the bushes between two historical markers. (We never did find the box 😢)
