Lenovo Legion 7i Gen 9 3.2k screen option availability (glacier white)

Looking for this in Glacier White with the display option 'IPS 3.2K 3200 x 2000 px, 165Hz 3ms, 450-nits, 100% DCI-P3.' I'm located in US.

Does anyone know if it's just sold out or not listed yet?

Legion 7 gen 8 AMD CPU (16ARX8H) RAM Upgrade kits (and my fail)

Got the 7 gen 8 with Ryzen 7945HX with 32GB RAM and needed to update to 64GB because of compilation of our massive work projects.

Swapped out the default Samsung M425R2GA3BB0-CWMOD 16GB sticks for Kingston KCP556SD8K2-64 and laptop doesn't boot with the new sticks, even though spec-wise, they seem extremely close - 5600MHz, 1.1V, only difference I can see is maybe the fact, that the new stick is 2x8R instead of 1x8R (which makes sense, since it's 32GB) and maybe timings aren't identical?

Does anybody have an explanation of why the new sticks wouldn't be compatible?
Or a recommendation for a 64GB kit that definitely works in the Ryzen Legion 7 16ARX8H?

Legion Y740 Fan Grinding Noise

The left fan of my Legion Y740 Laptop is making constant grinding and squeaking noises which gets louder as the time passes. Raised the issue with Premium Care Support and after multiple calls and remote diagnosis they just closed the ticket with "Solution Provided" remark.

Also, 2 years back I had the same issue and back then the fans were replaced but now the support is completely acting as if it's not an issue and most probably want to charge me for fan replacement after warranty expires (~2 months).

Is there some DIY I can do on my end to resolve this or do I need to keep banging my head on the wall with their support??

Also, has anyone gotten to replace the fans by Lenovo recently and if so how?

What antivirus should I put on my Legion 5?

Hi all new here. Just got a Legion 5i (15” Gen 9) and was wondering what antivirus would be good. Been using a MacBook for so long without protection, switching back to windows is new again. Any recommendations or suggestions?

Lenovo Legion Lid Cracking Up

2 year old Legion 5's lid has started to crack up from both sides. Incidentally, the cracks started showing up hours after I got my laptop back from getting the keyboard replaced. Called up the service I used and they said no damage was done from their side. I do have ADP left for one year but the service recommended I use that after some time in case any other damage shows up, as it can be used only once per year. Idk how this has happened but really dumbfounded by the whole ordeal. Some of it falls down upon me as well as I failed to inspect the device thoroughly before leaving the service as I was in a hurry. Please learn from my mistakes.

What RAM for legion 5 pro gen 8 ?

Hi, I want to upgrade my ram to higher capacity since 16GB is not enough for me. Is it possible to upgrade only one ram stick to 32 and pair it with 8Gb ? If yes then what ram should I look for ( CL, Speed) I can’t find info about stock memory sticks that came with my legion. If you have any suggestions to share I would very appreciate it :)

My Lenovo legion 5 has started randomly vibrating from where i assume the fan is.

It doesn’t vibrate or make really audible noise on that level when im playing a game so it’s different from that. This vibrates the whole table and makes a really audible noise. I just left my laptop on and it suddenly vibrated from where i assume the fan is. Did anyone experience this before and what did you do to fix it? It doesn’t make these kind of sounds and vibrations whenever i play games :/ so idk what’s going on

Which one should I buy? Lenovo legion laptop vs. desktop

Which one should I buy?

Lenovo Legion Pro 7 R9-7HX/16/1024/4080 16” pelikannettava

  • AMD Ryzen 9 7945HX processor
  • Nvidia GeForce RTX 4080 graphics card (12GB VRAM)
  • 16 GB DDR5 RAM, 1 TB M.2 SSD
  • 2699 euros

Lenovo Legion T5 26IRB8 (RTX 4070 Ti Super) pöytäkone

  • Intel® Core™ i7 14th Gen Intel® Core™ 14700KF
  • NVIDIA GeForce RTX GeForce RTX 4070 The SUPER (16GB VRAM)
  • 32 GB DDR5 RAM, 1 TB M.2 SSD
  • 2199 euros

Will also use it for machine-learning projects i.e. Pytorch, CUDA, Tensorflow, etc. so I would need a good VRAM. I will also use it for both gaming and machine-learning projects. Games I play or planning to play:

  • Dota 2
  • Rise of the Tomb Raider
  • Cyberpunk
  • The Last of Us

My biggest dilemma is whether I should pay for the extra mobility of a laptop. I'm an expat in another country planning to stay for a couple of years but it feels like it will be too hard to move around with a desktop PC. But I also do already have a macbook that I can use if ever I need to travel.

Lenovo Legion 7 Broken Key

Hello! The "W" key on my Lenovo Legion 7 broke off. I assume it had too much stress put on it from playing video games (The "escape" key is getting loose, too). I don't know how to replace it or fix it. It seemed too snap off when I pressed it while playing Team Fortress 2. Any help is appreciated!!

Legion slim 5 stuck at 0% while charging

Hi all

I have a Lenevo Legion Slim 16APH8 My laptop has been stuck charging at 0% for a few days now. Its been plugged in all the time so I don't know if that's what causing the issue. The laptop is new I've only used it for a few months. The laptop turns on with the A/C adapter plugged in but loses power when it's disconnected.

I have tried:

  1. Performing a "static discharge": I removed the A/C adapter. I disconnected the battery from the cable the motherboard is connected to. Held the power button for a minute and plugged the cable back in. Then plugged in the A/C adapter. This didn't work.

  2. Uninstalling Microsoft battery drivers and restating the machine so they get reinstalled. This didn't work.

  3. Performing windows updates. This didn't work.

  4. Performing system update in lenevo vantage software. There was a "BIOS update utility" update which I couldn't install since it required battery capacity to be 30% or more. I couldn't do this since the charge doesn't go up than 0%.

I also tried to install the BIOS update exe externally but it still requires battery to be 30% or more.

  1. Run lenevo diagnostics software. The battery health check was ok, the battery charge test failed and it displayed "your battery is not charging properly".

  2. I also tried resetting the battery by pressing the button inside the tiny hole at the back of the device. This also didn't work

Lenevo vantage says the battery is healthy but it's still stuck in 0%. Any ideas or suggestions on how to fix this? I'm not sure what I did to cause this issue and I'm genuinely freaked out.

Thanks a lot for any support

What is upgradable on my laptop?

I have a Legion Slim 5 AMD Ryzen 7 7840 HS and RTX 4060, and was curious about these specs and how they stack up for playing games. I do not know a lot about this technical stuff so I was curious where the CPU and GPU compare to the rest of the gaming laptop market (especially whats up with AMD Ryzen and intel debate).

Was also curious if any on my laptop is upgradable. i understand I can buy another hard drive to increase my storage but is there anything I can do to increase my RAM as well? What would increasing RAM mean for when I play games as well? Is there anything else thats not inherent to the system that would allow me to optimize this thing? I love this laptop and really want to see it as optimized as I can!

Adding SSD to Lenovo legion laptop in warranty

Hi. I'm based I'm Bangalore India. I bought a lenovo legion slim 5 laptop last year with a 1 tb ssd. I've been trying to add an additional ssd to this (has a slot) but I'm not sure about the effect on the warranty. I called up the legion support and they murmur that it can (not will) impact the warranty. They referred me to the service center. They said the service center will get the part and install it at the rates of the part cost and installation.

The service center keeps telling me to contact the legion support. I'm now stuck between these 2.

In the meantime I called up Golchha computers on SP road and they said they will give the ssd and they have a 3rd party installer there itself who will do it

Could anyone advice how to deal with the service center fiasco or would it be better to get it installed by a known local vendor without affecting my warranty? TIA

Legion 5i gen 9

Hey everyone. Just got my Legion 5i 2 weeks ago and am looking for a good sturdy backpack to use. I would be using this for everyday use to carry the Legion but also my work laptop as well as charging cables, networking cables(rj-45 and console cables) as well as miscellaneous tools, other tech and notebooks.

Curious if what others are using and experiences with their backpacks.

How to lower my cpu temp legion 5 i7-10750H rtx 2060

the cpu is using 4.5 ghz most of the time even if in idle , and temps started to rise above 90 in some games (stays around 93 in valorant) , so I found about disabling the processor performance boost mode which is very good in gpu based games ( lowers fps by 5-10 max but decreases temps by more than 20°C) , but hugly effect fps in cpu based games like valorant so what are my options ? Should i keep changing it from disabled to aggressive when i play ? Will changing it daily damage the cpu , or is there another way so the cpu overclock but not to the max ?

Adding SSD to Legion 7i 9th gen

I'd like to add 1-2 tb of SSD to my Legion 7i 9th gen, and I'm curious if there's anything I should look for in terms of compatibility.

Would something like this work (I have a best buy gift card so ideally looking for something from them): https://www.bestbuy.com/site/wd-black-sn770-2tb-internal-ssd-pcie-gen-4-x4/6495883.p?skuId=6495883

Is there a significant difference going for the more expensive ones or is it mostly a wash?

Learnings from my war against annoying Slim 7 fans

This is going to be long (see TL;DR), but since getting my Slim 7 Gen 8 AMD last year I've been endlessly annoyed by one thing: the fans.

Thermal performance when pushed is great, it clearly has a suitable cooling solution for gaming loads. However, (and maybe this is my ADHD), no matter which power mode it was in the random on / off of the fans during idle or light usage was infuriating, as if the machine was intentionally designed to operate on the knife edge of the fan curve.

It seemed like the tiniest CPU temperature spikes were triggering the fan curve up 2 steps rather than ramping progressively, and these fans whine like no other when they're spooling up.

That is, until a few weeks ago, when my motherboard somehow fried itself (a different issue altogether, non-cooling related failure). The Lenovo onsite tech botched the thermal paste and definitely used something that wasn't PTM, which made a problem that was already driving me crazy even worse.

So I picked up some PTM 7950 and Upsiren U6 putty from Aliexpress, repasted the CPU / GPU dies and replaced the stock pads with putty.

After putting it back together and running the PTM through a stress test to melt it down (for good measure I popped it back open afterwards and gave the cooler screws a tiny extra twist to lock it down), I could say that it was now running better than how it came from the factory 6 months ago. The fans were turning on more progressively, rather than being a huge distraction by going straight to 2200rpm and stopping on a dime a few seconds later.

Idle was now around 45-48C, but it was still bugging me that light internet browsing was enough to kick up the fans. "Gaming laptops are just loud and hot!", yadda yadda yadda. Not good enough for me.

Then today I stopped and thought – since the BIOS doesn't allow fine adjustment of the curve, and boost temperature spikes are just the nature of the AMD 7840HS, trying to keep the machine silent is a losing battle, short of neutering the performance with power limits.

So what if the answer to quest for no fan noise...is constant fan noise? I fired up Legion Toolkit and loaded a custom profile based on the Balanced preset, with the one tweak of raising the lowest point of the fan curve (fan off by default) up one tick.

The result? The fans spin all the time at 1800rpm, but at that speed it's pretty much white noise that my ears tune out. Way less distracting than random acceleration / deceleration, and the sub 40c steady state temps leave tons of headroom before the fans would kick up to the next speed.

YMMV, and maybe I got a dud from the factory, but I'm finally happy. Hopefully this helps others, as my searches turned up plenty of posts talking about the same behavior. And of course, proceed at your own risk and watch YouTube tutorials, it's not rocket science but the job requires a delicate touch.

TL;DR: if your fans are driving you crazy consider re-doing the PTM and going with a better thermal pad solution – just because they used good materials from the factory doesn't mean the application was perfect. Also, these fans are most annoying when they're spooling up, and if it's driving you mad having them on low all the time is way less distracting than letting them randomly flip on and off.

Legion pro 5 not turning on

My laptop just started having issues all of a sudden. Today I turned it on as usual, and after like an hour it suddenly froze and I had to force shutoff. When I turned it back on it got to windows screen and then it just froze again. I did this 3-4 times and it just keeps freezing at the same time. I looked up some solutions and tried to do a system restore, diagnostic still didn’t work. And then I did the hold the power for 60s and now the laptop just doesn’t turn on at all. The keyboard lights light up for a bit but the screen is black and there’s no fan or anything and it just turns off after like 10s or so. Is there any solution?

How do I get the keyboard lights to stay on?

I know how to adjust the lights through vantage but I don’t see a way to keep them on while the laptop is idling. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.
