Q3 first day

It took a while to figure out how to use it the screen would keep zooming in and out it drove me crazy until I found a YouTube video that showed me different settings. The M9 was easier to use.

How does the Voigtlander 35mm F/2 Ultron compare to the Leica 35mm F/2.4 Summarit?

I’ve had my Ultron for about 4 months or so. I’ve really been enjoying it, and it’s been giving me some really nice and sharp results. However, the .5m focusing distance and uneven smoothness of the focusing tab have been giving me some issue. By uneven smoothness, I mean the tab will start to move faster when it’s at either end of its rotation.

I’ve been looking at the Summarit 2.4 for a while, as it seems to be pretty affordable (as far as Leica lenses go), and seems to have very solid build quality. The half stop difference between the two isn’t something major to me, and the different hood design seems like a plus for viewfinder blockage.

Has anyone here used the Summarit? If so what were your thoughts on the 2.4 version specifically? Does it hold up against the Ultron or is the Ultron the better performer in today’s age? Thank you!

should i try and get the fungus removed?

its a summicron R 50mm. has the tiniest spot of fungus growing.. will it get worse over time?

the other circle is a piece of dust. that doesnt bother me as much, but if i get it cleaned might as well get a good cleaning.

worth it? or leave it alone?

Macro Adapter M (sans goggles) with lenses other than 90?

Hello, I’m now the very happy owner of a new SL2S that I can use with my 3 M lenses (35 cron ASPH, 35 steel rim reissue and 50 Lux ASPH).

I have the chance to buy a macro adapter M from a friend for a very good price, used but barely used. I know that the adapter (without goggles) is made to work specifically with the 90. Will I get ok results with my existing lenses, too?

Mind you, I’m not trying to get into hardcore, professional macro photography, I understand that there are better solutions for that. I would be happy to take somewhat more close up photos of nature here and there, as well as to see whether it would help reduce the 1m minimum focus of the steel rim for certain photos (I understand that when using the adapter I might not be able to focus at infinity).

Thanks for your advice!

sell the 50mm summicron?

hey guys, i recently won a auction and got me myself a Leica M6 with a 50mm Summicron. I got it for pretty cheap so i'm really happy. Only thing is, that i'm not a 50mm shooter because I don't like the look of the 50mm. I'm shooting street, travel and landscape (in the future maybe street portraiture) - now i'm overthinking to get a 28 or 35mm.

I did a other post where anyone said that i should keep the 50mm and never sell Leica gear. What's your opinion on that?

Leica M7- Film comes loose while shooting

A few weeks ago I loaded a roll of Ektar in my M7. I shot a few exposures and everything was okay. I went on a walk in the evening and noticed there was no tension when I pushed the film advance lever. As if there was no film inside. I looked at the rewind knob and it wasn’t rotating when I advanced film.

I thought maybe I did a shit job at loading the film in the camera so I hit the rewind lever and took the roll out. Rewinding the film happened quickly. My thoughts were maybe I got a few shots in, but the film came loose off the spool and had no tension, thus not allowing me to advance my film.

I put a new roll in and advanced the film a few exposures before I closed the back and bottom plate. I did it with my partner watching to ensure I wasn’t doing a bad job. I’ve had this camera for eight years and have loaded countless rolls into it and never had an issue. I loaded it up, took a few shots and boom, no tension again.

I’m not sure if any of you have encountered this issue with the M7 or M6 before. I did notice this piece of metal hanging on the bottom. I hadn’t noticed it before and am not sure if maybe that’s contributing to my rolls coming loose.

Any suggestions on what might be causing the issue would be appreciated. I’ve since shot two rolls of film and it’s worked good, but would rather have an idea of what might be causing this issue than running the risk of losing more film.

My first Leica so excited

So after a long decision process, I decided to go with Leica M8 in Silver Chrome. This one has 8500 shutter count and in very good condition. Can’t wait to use it.

Also last owner scrubbed M8 sign completely for aesthetics but I like it more with it.

Has anyone know what’s the best way to repaint it?

Thanks

35mm Summilux 11726 lens hood question

Hi 👋

Once again, I would appreciate everybodys help on this rather superficial question. I‘m a total sucker for rectangular lens hoods. The mew 35mm Summilux 11726 „unfortunately“ has a built in retrectable one. So, would it be possible for me to use the predecessors (11675) lens hood on the newer 11726 Summilux? Do I have to pay attention to something or is it even possible at all? Would vignetting be an issue maybe? Thank you all once again for your help! As always, very much appreciated! ☺️

Non Leica body for M lenses recommandation (I am opened ^ ^)

Hello. I am a fan of leica cameras. Not a fan of the current lifestyle brand as they are trying to sell but still a fan of the pictures i get from Leica.

I never bought one, but i rented M240 and Leica SL 601 and both love them.

I have on Sonnetar M lens that i bought and unfortunately did not make the jump to buy the M body.

The m240 still being quite expensive i am looking at cheaper alternative that would still give me joy.

I was considering the Leica SL 601 (first generation if i am correct) but it's still not cheap for its age.

I was checking the Fuji XT-1 and the Fuji xpro 1. That being said i prefer the xt 1 from design point of view as i feel the xpro1 being a dull copy of the M.

I am fully open to critics recommandations etc.

I love to shot and not using photoshop, which i found is what happened when i rented the leica M, SL and even the controversial T (but the m lens on the T crop was for me a deal braker).

THanks

Straps like the Lenny Kravitz Drifter?

Hi all,

I'm curious if anyone is aware of third party straps akin to that included in the Leica M240 Lenny Kravitz Drifter edition.

Basically, normal split ring ends (no quick releases, no proprietary connectors like Peak Design) with a wide guitar-style strap and adjustable length, preferably natural material like cotton for the shoulder portion. Faux snakeskin not required!

Selling a Q2M and Fuji X100V to purchase a Q3?

I'm looking to simplify my set up to only have one camera when I travel, and have been considering the Q3. For those with experience with the Q2M - will I miss the insane clarity at higher ISOs if I move over to the Q3? I feel like with denoise in lightroom, this is less of an issue these days. Appreciate any and all thoughts. Thanks!

Help me choose a video camera

I’m an M shooter with way too many M lenses, and I’m going to sell some of the lenses I don’t use to buy a camera for making home movies.

I’m considering a number of options and can’t decide how to proceed!

  1. Leica SL2 or SL2-S with Sigma or Leica 24-70. I figure I could mount a Rode Video Micro in the hot shoe and just set it up permanently as a video camera. And I could use it as a backup or alternative camera for my M lenses as well, say in bad weather. And I could make video with my M lenses, which could be cool. I have a range of lenses from 21mm to 90mm, modern and vintage.

1a. Same as above but with the LUMIX S5ii.

  1. Nikon Zf with 24-70 f/4 zoom. This would be cheaper, and I could also mount my M lenses with an adapter, for backup purposes. But it would mean learning a new system from scratch. And the Nikon isn’t that much cheaper than a used SL2.

  2. Fuji XS-20 with 16-80 f/4. I shot Fuji for many years and would have no problem going back for video purposes. But this camera wouldn’t serve as a backup for me—it would be purely a video camera. (I’m not particularly eager to return to shooting X-mount for stills.)

  3. Sony ZV-1 II. This would be the simplest and cheapest solution—like a pocket camcorder. I could just bring it along in the bag with my Ms.

When it comes to video, I’d say I’m medium ambitious. I want a noticeable step up from my phone or action cam. I want to control framing, exposure, and depth of field more deliberately. I want decent audio—for example, I really want to hear my kid singing at his kindergarten graduation. I’d like to color grade. (I have reasonable experience with editing software—I’m not too concerned about the learning curve and am willing to put in the work.) At the same time, I’m not an aspiring filmmaker or cinematographer. I’m a hobby photographer who wants to make really nice home movies of my family. I’m already making home movies using footage from my phone, my Insta360 Go, and my Osmo Pocket 3. I’d be adding better footage into the mix by picking up one of these cameras.

I’m asking this question in r/Leica and not r/videography because part of what’s confusing me is my heavy investment in Leica equipment. Part of me wants to keep the interface consistent across cameras, and to leverage my existing M kit. Another part wonders if the M lenses really matter for my medium-ambitious purposes. Is it worth it to spring for the SL camera so that I can film using my 21 SEM and 35 Steel Rim? Or will I be just as happy making home movies with a ZV-1 or Fuji or Nikon?

I’d especially value tips from other Mom or Dad Photographers who have added video to an M kit.

Leica Q2 vs Q3

Hi all, I have just sold my LUMIX S5 with a 28-70mm because it was too big and heavy, therefore I am looking for a new camera and I have always had in the back of my head the dream of owning a Leica Q.

I have seen that the Leica Q2 is available for 3500€ on the used market and the Q3 for 5000€. For me, the USB-C charging, new autofocus and tilting screen are quite nice upgrades (more future proof). I would like to buy the Q as an all-in-one definitive camera since I don’t plan on changing it in the future.

Is the 1500€ difference justified and worth it in your opinion? I am going to use the camera for street photography and traveling. I am a hobby photographer but I might use it also for some videos.

Thanks in advance!
