I made a pencil holder today.
I only knew saddle stitch(which I am not still used to), but I learned a new x-shaped stiching today.
how do you think??!
Is there anyway to fix this calfskin leather interior? Goyard Saint Pierre wallet, do I need to leather re-dye it? Or does it look like a chunk of the leather came offhttps://imgur.com/a/qSAkdxdpic
Hi all,
Just wondering how you account for trim allowance when using premade templates. I find the templates only work if the edges are cut and stacked perfectly, and usually it's very difficult to get it bang on. I've been told that I need to trim off the edges for best possible straight edge, but of course this cuts away the material and compromises the overall dimensions.
So how do you guys factor this trim allowance in? Or are you just really good at lining up the pieces?
My 1 complaint is that the green thread is too dark of a shade, and too thick. The green stitching is supposed to resemble seaweed, but you really can't tell unless I tell you. I thought my previous 0.6 looked too sparse so I went with 0.8 for this project, and I thought the dark green would be ok because the thread was thicker and the blue background was also dark, but I misjudged on both counts.
Hi,
I have been looking for someone to make some belt designs around where I live. No one around here does any custom work so I decided I want to start myself. So I come to ask what would the difficulty be to make belts as a total beginner. I also want to ask what you all would think the cost to start would be, as a college student this is mildly important (lol).
I know that depending on the design the difficulty would increase, but all I want to do is simple shapes and some leather dyeing.
Created this bag pattern inspired by the old no stitch laced up designs for cross body purses. However I can’t seem to find a way to make it unique and special. Any recommendations?
Quick question! I learned how to make my knives SHARP, which is great except I am skiving into the grain of the leather. Is there a trick to getting an even skive or is it just practice?
I’m ready to spend a little on new chisels. Thinking of Sinabrook or Crimson. Looking at 2 and 6-8 prong. Is there a need for 1 prong?
Also, French or Japanese style? In all the videos I see, the holes look different (Japanese more rhombus and French diagonal slit) but after sewn, they look similar.
I have searched for one for a few years, passively, but I am starting to seriously want to take on the project of making a leather tool belt. My wife is a woodworker and I want to make something special to give as a gift.
Any recommendations would be awesome!Should also mention I am a willing to pay for the pattern.
I’m still pretty new to leather working, used some scrap leather I had laying around to make a holder for the knife work gave me.
They gave me some dinky plastic belt clip holder that broke pretty much instantly so I figured I’d do something quick and ugly that gets the job done.
What kind of stuff have you guys made for simple utility?
Would covering my workbench in vinyl help dampen the noise from tooling and stamping?
I always seem to mess it up so I want to make a reference cheat sheet.
After all peices are cut ( and obviously some peices will get this done before others)
Do you: Sand flat Bevel Burnish?
Do you have to sand flat? Will the beveling take care of this? Sanding seems to raise fibers making beveling (especially flesh side) more difficult.
I purchased a leather hide that is .9mm thick. It’s a bit too thick for my sewing machine (when two pieces are doubled), so I was going to try sewing it by hand while using a pricking iron. Would this be recommended?
Second question, what thickness of thread would work best with this leather? I have a polyester tex 70 (.3mm) thread. Would this be sufficient? Or should I seek something thicker?
The project is a corset, the leather has been fused to a thin cotton.
Does anyone have any resources in where to get custom stamped snaps made?
Or how to get a die made and stamp myself
Thanks!
I have never purchased pull up leather before
