Help needed (syntax)!

Hi everyone! I'm currently writing my thesis on artificial languages, na'vi included, which consequently brought me to get into na'vi syntax but... the case system seems to work in "strange ways". We get both the agentive and patientive couple of cases, but what made it necessary to have a nominal case? Na'vi cannot be classified as a nominative-accusative language, else we wouldn't see the agentive-patientive combination.

I'd love to discuss the matter with anyone who studied na'vi and I hope I made myself enough clear!

Atanti?

In the songcord song Neytiri says “atanti” shouldn’t it be “atanit”?

She also seems to pronounce -yä as -ye. Stylistic??

Meaning of tsnì

Does anyone know the function of the word “tsnì” (that) in grammar? I don’t see how it is different than the word “a”, including its conversion to “fwa” and “futa”.

This is the ikran that flies = Fì’u lu ikran a tswayon.

I know that you ate the food = Oel omum futa ngal yamom syuvet.

Where would tsnì ever be used?

Do the actors pronounce ejectives correctly?

The way I learned them was that you make a popping or clicking sound almost. But in the movies it kind of just sounds like a normal phoneme. E.g. “skxawng” sounds like “skawng”. And in the songcord song when Neytiri says “txe’lan” it sounds more like “te’lan” or even “telan”.

Is it just that the actors don’t say it quite right? Or are the ejective consonants more subtle than I was thinking?

Is there a Na'vi word or name with a meaning similar to the phrase "Silver Lining"?

I'm creating a Na'vi OC and I'd like their name to mean something similar to the phrase "Silver Lining" or more specifically, an unfortunate situation that either became beneficial or has positive aspects to it. Is anyone aware of any Na'vi words or names whose meanings might fit this definition?

What would you call a trader in Na’vi?

I realize that there is no word currently for trader, but there has to be in the future with the Windtraders making their first debut in AVTR 3. Have any of you come up with a suitable solution or possible substitute for “trader”?

I’m new to Na’vi

I’m trying to combine Oare (Moon?) and Txon’ong (Nightfall but can mean dusk?) to name my ikran. I’m not sure how to go about combining words so I was hoping someone could help me? I would be very grateful!

I’m new to the language, any recommendations?

I have been an Avatar fan since a child like a toddler (concerning what my parent would let me watch ik) and I began to speak some na’vi very early on. However I have lost most of it since only remembering very few words, now I’m older I’m wanting to get back into it as languages has kinda become my thing now. I was wondering if any of you had any recommendations and I mean ANY.

From where to start, good resources, things you with you knew sooner, books/workbooks, classes, ect. Please share you wisdom and I’m sure I’ll benefit from anything, maybe someone else will too (let’s hope 🤞)

Survey on Artificial Languages use

Hi everyone! I'm Anna and I'm writing my dissertation for my MA in Translation. My dissertation will be about Artificial Languages.

As you're Na'vi learners, your opinion would be crucial for this survey about learning and knowing artificial languages. Could you answer it? It won't take much time and it's anonymous.

Titles for family members

What would be the appropriate way to address an “uncle/aunt” in Na’vi? I realize there is no such words in the dictionary, so what would be the best approach?

Thanks much!

Writing some OC lore, help with naming something?

I have an OC who cooks for her family, in the story she describes the ingredients she uses, but she also gives the food a name:

“Kalin yerik tsngan yapay”… supposed to mean steamed sweet yerik meat or something akin to that…

If you couldn’t already tell I’m very new to this, help???! What would be the beat way to approach naming this??!

Thank you much!
