Come and learn some Afrikaans!
It’s spoken mostly in Southern Africa, but Afrikaans communities exist all over the globe. Afrikaans is closely related to Dutch, one of the youngest languages in the world and, overall, just a lekker languang!
Aangename kennis, vriend, jy’s welkom hier! (Nice to meet you, friend, you’re welcome here!)

Please, I'm learning Afrikaans and I would like learn to sing some Christian worship songs in Afrikaans if anyone has suggestions? Thank you so much! I'm grateful for your help.
Ek dink ek die volgende sin gehoor het: “Jy word jou te skaam.”
Ek se dink want ek’s nie seker nie. Dit is ‘n ou episode van Liewe Heksie, ‘n reeks vir kinders. Ek vra want ek studeer net nog vir ‘n paar jare Afrikaans. Iets lyk vir my verkeerd.
Hey guys, I'm at the beginning of a journey into learning afrikaans however I'm having a hard time with the pronunciations, especially with that gutteral G!
Tradionationally English speaking, from Durban. What would be some good podcasts and/or music that I can listen to in order to get better at recognizing and speaking with proper pronunciation.
Preferably on spotify but any suggestion is good.
I'm in the UK and I'm looking for an online tutor to help me learn Afrikaans. There is a site called Superprof, but you can't contact the tutors without paying for four lessons, which is very annoying. Does anyone know other place I'm likely to find someone who can give me a weekly lesson?
My brother brought this book while studying in SA in 2010. I later started to study Afrikaans with my ex gf with this book and we achieved a solid basic understanding of the language. Later, we broke up and she kept the book. Now, some four years later, I’d like to restart anytime soon; but online, Lutrin’s book is at impossible prices (120 USD +). My idea is to send it to someone in SA and then this person could send it to me. Any ideas? I don’t know anyone in South Africa and I don’t know much would it cost to send it to Europe.
Hi All
I am currently on a journey to learn Afrikaans, as I didn't take it seriously enough in High School and for work purposes I am trying to learn it.
I am looking for common Afrikaans phrase, as at work I would be speaking with someone and they will use an Afrikaans phrase, but when translated into English doesn't make any sense.
I have looked on google for common Afrikaans phrases and sadly there isn't alot of answers.
I am asking if anyone knows of a resource I can use to learn these common phrases.
Any help in this area would be amazing.
To make a long story short, I was visiting SA a few months ago and I was rex come fed Ge Korsten’s music by a passenger. While I have found some of his lyrics, can someone please share with me the Afrikaans lyrics to Korstens’s Guistoe and Die Goeie Kameraad?
I decided to learn a little about Afrikaans and, after downloading an Anki deck, was blown away by how much I could understand. I'm a native English speaker and know a little bit of German.
This language is so cool. I love it. I found a couple of podcasts on Spotify that teach it, but I'd love further recommendations for resources.
I generally get high marks for all of my subjects except for Afrikaans FAL. I decided to focus on improving my Afrikaans marks for my upcoming July exams.
I've been spending hours studying afrikaans for the past week, and I still suck at unseen poems and cartoons. Its such a pain because I know the questions are simple, but a lot of the times I don't know what's being asked, and when I think I do and answer the question to the best of my ability, I get the question completely wrong.
I use flashcards to expand my vocabulary, but I can't remember anything. If I can, I struggle to apply it to the poem and answer it correctly.
I'm literally crying as I type this because it's so frustrating. I'm writing in less than 6 days and feel like I will fail, or at least just underperform. Don't even get me started on having to write paper 2!
This paper counts 75% of my overall term mark, so there's a lot of pressure on me to do well.
Google doesn't have a good translation for "Hulle is maar bra brot. Ek het ook gans te veel energie na haar smaak." Thanks!
I'm considering trying iTalki and am wondering how people's experiences have been and whether someone can recommend a tutor. I know there are some precious posts on this topic but theyre old.
TIA
I want to learn Afrikaans without using any app. Are there books or music that you could recommend?
