does anyone know which banks or credit unions in lawrence allow people to use their chosen name on their cards? i know many of the big national banks like chase and citibank do, but would like to know about more local options too
I remember watching Santa be rescued from weavers on a yearly basis back when I was a kid, but I came across this article today: https://lawrencekstimes.com/2024/11/29/santa-rescue-24/
It sparked my curiosity, how does the city select the “Santa” to stand atop weavers? How cool would it be to get to say “I was the weavers Santa.” 💪
Happy holidays lfk!
I am looking for a place in lawrence that cuts and perms men’s hair well
I need to get my new kitten his shots and eventually get him neutered. Who is everyone's go to in Lawrence? Most caring, great prices, best hours? And does anyone know if the humane society still offers vouchers for altering a pet? ( Yes I've tried calling but I'm not getting an answer) I'm sure they are just busy. Thanks everyone.
I've been going around looking at the lights. The best seem to be in the Fall Creek (Running Ridge Dr. off of Monterey), Prairie Meadows (30th & Lawrence Ave.) and Quail Run (Harvard Rd., west of Monterey) neighborhoods. Of course, downtown and South Park are excellent as well. Do you know of any others?
anyone have suggestions for local(ish) lawrence restaurants or shops that have their own matchbooks for grabs? i'm trying to collect as many as i can!
Did anyone just hear that loud ass boom? Sounded like a transformer blew or a shotgun. Heard it two nights ago, as well. No evergy outages marked. 11:25 pm.
I know there’s lots of live music around town but haven’t found a great way to stay in touch with the current lineups/events. What is your go-to for finding upcoming shows at various venues?
My friend's duplex had a pipe burst under the house. She and the neighbors have been living without running water and sewage backup for 18 days now. The landlord is doing everything he can to prolong the process because of how much it'll cost to fix. She has tried contacting the city and code enforcement. She was literally told that she will have a hard time finding representation because the lawyers in Lawrence all represent the landlords. She took her daughter to a hotel and the landlord said they wouldn't pay and she should file a claim with her renter's insurance. Any advice on what she can do and who she can contact?
Hey how big of planes can we accommodate at the Lawrence airport? I just saw a jet fly overhead that seemed too big for our airstrip but also way too low to be landing at either KC airport. I'm admittedly ignorant about a lot of these things but it was low enough to be concerning
I was just going to ask before I buy different colors of scrubs, does LMH has a dress code for every department, do you have to wear a specific color of scrubs? Or it doesn’t matter? Thank you in advance.
Has anyone else been disappointed by this Dillons? The past couple times I’ve been there/done pick up orders there, they’ve been extremely out of stock and I’ve had issues with the order. For example, today they told me they didn’t have an item in stock, but instead of contacting about substitutions they just told us it was “too late”. Fine, whatever. I can go into the store and physically grab it. Except this was under a coupon, meaning I got charged $8 extra. Got home, already irritated about the unexpected $8 charge to find one of my items was expired by 2 weeks.
Does Checkers do grocery pick up?
Trout season opens today. Anyone know if Lake Henry has been stocked yet or not?

now a lot of people who grew up here may disagree with this, but it irks me when people call lawrence a "small town". as someone from an actual small town (12k people), i think its kind of silly. real small towns dont have famous bands come through regularly, nor do they have half the amount of things to do. if people from surrounding small towns come to lawrence to have something to do, lawrence cant be that small. and if we're looking strictly at stats, pop of around 95k (to be considered a city you need at least 50k, so very well over) at the very lowest end we'd be a midsize city, not to mention we're literally the 6th largest city in the state. i completely understand if you don't give a shit about this because who would, but i wanted to say it. i love lawrence and its people regardless, and i love living here. it's infinitely better than surrounding areas.
I just cleared 6 cars off that hill. Avoid it if you are 2WD!!!!
I got a job offer in Lawrence and am considering moving back after 15 years. But I now have two young kids and am hearing the school options are not great. I don’t want to do a private or Montessori. My oldest has an IEP. My youngest is also in PreK and we currently live in a state with free PreK. Are there good public schools? Affordable childcare? Pediatricians? This would be a quick move so I appreciate any info!
anyone recommend places for GOOD hot cocoa, im out delivering pizzas and hot cococa sounds amazing
... or sky-gazing opportunity. Assuming the skies clear out and you have access to a somewhat darkish sky view to the west and north, you should see one of the latest Starlink trains streaming overhead.
This will look like a line of tiny lights or 'a string of pearls' steadily and silently streaming along through the sky. Possibly, though much less likely, there will be momentary 'glints' or 'flashes' of reflected sunlight.

Band from Lenexa, played the bottleneck a bunch. Opened for Nonpoint and Skindred back in 2004. Loved their album, but it's like the band vanished from the face of the earth. Anybody remember them?
Anyone expecting a delivery from one of those food delivery services soon and would be willing to allow me to pick it up to reuse the packaging?
My best friend from out of town has unfortunately been diagnosed with an aggressive brain tumor. He got to spend just 24 hours here in Lawrence when he and his son helped me move here, but he continues to talk about Stanley James BBQ and how phenomenal it was to this day. I wish I could get him the real thing but sending him some will have to be the next best thing.
If anyone works at the city, can you PLEASE fix these damn lights? They’re timed perfectly so you spend the maximum amount of time at the intersection.
Also, please add a sign saying people can turn left on red when exiting K10 and going west on 40. Makes a long light even longer.
I typed this entire post sitting at these damn lights. End rant.
Just got done going to just about every grocery store in town, only the Merc came through ❤️🙏
Looking to transfer care from KC to somewhere local to Lawrence. Any recs?
