Looking to learn how to make stained glass. Anyone have experiences with the local artists/teachers?
Missed connection with tye UPS Store cute employee. You're a beautiful girl with pronouns "She/Her" and your name starts with a K. You were helping me yesterday just before closing time and I complemented your Tattoos.
It's a long shot but would love to connect
When does the average lease end/begin in Lawrence? Are they mostly ending July 31/beginning August 1 because of students? Would anyone appreciate a lease that started beginning of January? Another time?
(Yes, I'm a landlord but just with a single house that I used to live in that we're now saving to help kids in the family with a place to stay while in college. Renting it out at a very reasonable rate in the meantime.)
How long ago did Lawrence.com go away? Did anyone archive the band pages?
Lighthouse Tow & Recovery got anything?
I got a pretty scummy story, of being treated literally like a child by them. Anybody else have any?
So my grandfather passed away recently. Not super relevant but kind of is. I decided to go up and visit my mom, on the way back from Baldwin (I officiate wrestling but live in Shawnee). I parked outside my parents house in the brookwood trailer park, like I have for years, not thinking anything about it. No more than 30 minutes went by, before it was time for me to leave. When I went to leave, I noticed my car was not where I parked it. Fearing it had been stolen I phoned the police. They had told me it had been towed. Apparently with all the cars on the street, they were towing cars that had been parked on the street all day, as well as cars with expired tags (mine was neither though it was on the street)
I set out and called the trailer park (the people I should have been really mad at), however I was greeted with empathy, and wanting to help. They told me I needed to contact lighthouse tow;little did I know how big this would get.
Upon calling and telling her, and asking her why I was towed, the dispatch interrupted me 3 times to remind me it was 325 dollars to get my car out. I told her my wallet was in my car, and I needed to get into my car. She hung up on me, I then called her back twice, and again was hung up on. Finally, I called her and she said “I will get back to you when I can have someone come let you in”. Waiting for that phone call that never happened I fell asleep at my parents house.
I woke up, sent my principal a message, and told her I would be in late; she reminded me since it was short notice I would be docked pay. I went to the light house tow yard, and asked to get in to get my wallet. The owner seemed to be confused on why my car was towed in the first place, and asked “why was this car towed”. Just then a women poked her head around the corner and said “they were towing all street parking”, I responded “even for 20 minutes. In front of their parents house”. She said “yes! And I dealt with you last night, bothering me all night”. The man said can he get in his car to get his id and wallet. She at first said no, but then when asked how I would pay, reluctantly agreed. I went and got my wallet and then headed to the atm. Again, instead of grieving, or being at work, with my students who have severe special needs, I am being very inconvenienced.
When I returned with the money, there were 4 people in the office, no one gave me any attention, so I began to give the money, counting it. When the last 20 accidentally fell on the floor, I looked up and said, may I have my car. The women finally looked up and said “are you going to come pick this money up?” Mind you it was behind a counter, and I didn’t really want to get hit for trespassing. I said, “ma’am I can’t I really need my car”, she then went back into her phone and said “ok I guess I can just wait if you aren’t going to pick this up”. I then lost a little cool and reminded her that I shouldn’t have been there, and she didn’t respond when I wanted to pick up my car from the previous night. A gentleman, behind her, then told me to watch my tone, to which she responded to him, by turning and yelling “shut the f$&! Up”, at that point I said “why are you yelling at him, when you could just give me my car? Seems like a power trip” she then took my money shut the window and door and said, I’m not doing business with you. I literally had to call the police, to get them to come up, and help me make a business exchange.
I had no reason to be mad at the Lighthouse Tow & Recovery, they were just doing a job. However, the petty antics they decided to employ were baffling at best and legitimately only seemed to inconvenience people. If you guys have any towing needs, please think strongly before choosing them.
I moved here about 4 years ago and I've noted that all of our secondhand stores seem to be curated towards the younger crowd with mostly selling clothes and home decor, which is fine, but i'm trying to get a smaller (9-15in) crt tv and Goodwill can't sell them.
I admit, I also miss walking into little thrift stores that smell like dust and grease from all the unwashed antique cookware and basement clothes. All those knickknacks, trinkets, and doodads... they have a charm to them that these newer stores lack!
Anyways, if anyone has any good recommendations, please let me know. I'd appreciate it!
How much of the stuff donated to Goodwill stays local? I heard everything gets shipped off to a central distribution center.
Is anyone else wearing costumes to the bar this weekend (nov. 1-2)!? I was planning on go out this weekend for Halloween and totally missed the memo that other people were going out last weekend (I was out of state). Please tell me my group and I won’t be alone.
Anyone know where to take small electronic or electric products such as shavers and can openers?
I’m looking for a good recommendation for an auto shop who could install something like this on my Honda Civic?

Like a lot of neighborhoods in Lawrence, our cul-de-sac was planted 35 years ago with lovely Green Ash trees. They grew well , gave the cul-de-sac a very nice lived in, secluded feel. Unfortunately since the first confirmed cases in 2015 they've all (save one that was treated early) started suffering from Emerald Ash Borer damage. All of the Tops are dead or nearly dead, branches are falling left and right, and they've become an eyesore. Luckily our property doesn't have any of them, but the neighboring house does and its overhanging our driveway. We've already had some branches fall on vehicles and the damage is only going to get worse. Im going to speak to the neighbor about having it removed, and would contribute to the cost if necessary, just want some more information before having that discussion.
I tried looking to see if the City has any sort of replacement support programs to help with the costs of removal but all i can find is an article from 2017 that says they are working on programs and educational materials but i never found anything past that other than some plans for removal of city owned trees. I know there are other cities where they will assist with removal and replacement with contracted arborists. Has anyone had any luck with this sort of thing? Any contacts at the city? I cant figure out whether this would be a Parks & Trails department question, Public works, etc.
Lastly, if we do have it removed, what are some recommendations for what to plant in its place? Its a south-side shade tree so im thinking we would want something that grows fast and produces a lot of high shade. Definitely don't want an oak since the neighbors a few houses down have two and they appear to be a menace with the acorns and thick leaf cover. Id love a pine to remove the need to rake leaves, and they remind me of where i grew up, but I know they're not everyone's cup of tea.
Hi! I’m designing save the dates for my sister’s wedding. Any recommendations for printers in town who usually take on these jobs? Looking at around 120 copies. Thanks in advance!
What can someone tell me about D&D vs Ace Steering and Brake for alignment, etc.?
Looking for local company recommendations for mudjacking, foam jacking to repair sunken concrete in the driveway and garage slab. Thank you!
Anyone in here a commercial realtor? Knows a commercial realtor? Or knows of cheap office space coming available in 2025?
Looking for $200/month Needs to be in Douglas County
Thanks!
Curious - what is the one local restaurant dish that you would choose if you were in town for one hour, or were stuck on a desert island, or for your last meal, etc....?
I am getting rid of my tank and I am from the Lawrence KS area and would like to send the fish to a good home!
I found this cat hiding under a stairway at Remington Square Apartments. The cat was extremely friendly but seemed very scared to be outdoors. It had been hiding under that same stair for at least three hours. No collar. It has food, water, and a box for the night.
If anyone could share with friends in Remington Square or the Stone Hawk Duplexes, or any facebook groups, I would appreciate it. I've contacted management at both places so hopefully they will send something out.
(It's not the tuxedo cat that is normally out and about around here, that one has a collar and is much more confident outdoors)
