This is the subreddit for the Lawnporn Stag & Hunter Murray's Brewery Camels baseball team. Seeking to be the first online community owned team in the world!
We are truly awful at this sport. None of us have played before. We thought it would be great to have a community owned team. We will be playing in 6th Grade in the Newcastle NSW Australia competition.

The fortress of Camelot! The Camels remained undefeated at Uni Oval in a stellar performance on the diamond yesterday. Unfortunately, this will have been their last came at Camelot, with all future home games played at Plattsburg. The Camels will be looking to make their mark at the new digs this weekend against the Wolves. Warren proved a force to be reckoned with on the diamond, right up until he started walking batters. I was no better, inheriting a bases loaded scenario and unable to stop the bleeding by allowing two more runs to score which saw the Tigers move to within 3 runs. I was lucky enough to regain control of the slowest pitch seen in the show, The Gravity Ball, The G Ball, The Damn Could This Guy Pitch Any Slower Ball, and nab the final two outs to get out of the dig, with our lead intact. The Camels were able to shake off the rust after an extended break, thanks to her majesty the Queen and a subsequent bye after the first inning. The opening digs from both sides were up and down, both somehow ending in zero runs on board. I will forever head my head in shame for being punked out by the catcher and tagged out at third after having just stolen 2nd and 3rd. More bush league stuff from this Jason Biggs wannabe. James "Two Salamies" Iuliano returned to the Caravan after assignment in New Zealand 'A' ball for the Waikato Wildcats. Salamies broke his hitting hoodoo at Camelot finally regeristing some meaningful stats. The power hitter was reminded that he shouldn't stray too far from the base however, out for not tagging up on a freakish catch of line drive by the pitcher. Although forced out at third, Hircock looked majestic diving and gliding into third on a slide that should be taught in academies. The Macho Man bolstered by his walk up music was ready to break bodies on the diamond. The Pez, the patience, the baseball IQ, the stretch at first base. The Pez showed why she is a regular in the MVP discussion, with yet another Gold glove performance and great ability to get on base and score (that's a baseball reference - kept your mind out of the gutter people). Caroline "Contact Carl" Reay continued to impress the thousands in attendance with her ability to crack straight back line drives. Her hitting prowess has resulted in naysayers from opposing fan bases to chant "corked bat" - to which Reay responded with a swift, 'get fucked!' In what has been described as a "bunters wet dream" a delicious bunt was laid down late in the game which from all reports from the ground, was met with calls from outside of the Caravan as being a dog act. I'll admit, it does feel like a dog act when I lay a bunt in a grade where most players require assistance to walk, but fuck it, this is the show and I won't stop bunting. Michelle Wolstenholme showed great poise in the field at 2B making some pivotal plays that helps the Caravan cruise to victory. Shell continues to make a name for herself as the woman who despises umpire more than any other. Questions will certainly be raised as why she had a hockey skate on a baseball diamond at her tribunal hearing this week. Rick Calvert-Jackson was become a fan and club favourite courting the attention of the Woodman himself to not only become a permanent fixture in 5th Grade, but for some free one on one tutelage from Mr Baseball. BDR was seen blushing for extended periods post game. Matt Rolfe has been cited by the club for his tirrade aimed at club management, fuelled by his belief of a New South Wales conspiracy within team selection and management. It's believed the Iceman was frustrated at not been given the opportunity to pitch, stating "that beer gutted version of Jason Biggs can't pitch for shit, he can't bring the heat like the Iceman! No surprise the two guys that pitched support NSW - bloody cheated!"

Three hits, three games.
The Camels re-entered the winners circle on Saturday with a demoralising victory over the Charlestown Phoenix. Tensions flared prior to the first pitch being thrown, when bad-boy and one half of the Bash Brothers, ‘Macho Man’ Jay Hircock was ready to shove a baseball down the throat of the next Phoenix who hit BP in our direction. Hircock was quickly reminded by Club Mentor, Coach, Head Trainer, Scout, Headmaster, Day Care Operator, Nurse, Doctor and Warm-Up Supervisor – Woody, that there’s no swearing in baseball.
Once that minor issue was ironed out, I had the pleasure of meeting the most interesting baseball umpire in existence. A man of myth and mystery, he does not confine himself to the conventional, ‘boring’ strike zone. He goes off feeling. The man can feel a strike or a ball. His rule behind the plate was, if he felt you could have hit it, no matter your size, ability, or if it had bounced up in the dirt, it was a strike. But for a man who claimed he wasn’t going to give walks, he sure gave out plenty to Phoenix. That need not matter though, as the Camels pitched a team no-hitter. The combination of Rolfe and Six-One Dunn on the mound was a managerial masterstroke that ensured the no-hitter. As it stands, the Mighty Camels have only given up three hits in three games.
There was a point that we all thought the game was going to end in a bench clearing brawl. When the Macho Man laid a heavy tag on the sixty-eight year old grandmother of 12. While hilarious and one of my favourite moments, Club Mentor, Coach, Head Trainer, Scout, Headmaster, Day Care Operator, Nurse, Doctor and Warm-Up Supervisor – Woody quickly reminded us all that there is no smiling, laughing or fun in baseball. The revered educator of this great game of baseball ran Hircock through an impromptu lesson on how to lay a tag, all whilst serving as field umpire.
As we grow as a caravan of camels, we are slowly beginning to understand the game, except of course the difference between forced and un-forced runners – that seems to escape us. In a match that saw bunts for triples, a man tearing his hamstring yet still making it to base, the pure electrifying heat off the mound of Six One Dunn, and so many walks I lost count, the Camels sent a message to the rest of Div 6 Newcastle Baseball, three hits, three games – you may walk to home, but you won’t be hitting us. Camels 13 Phoenix 4.

Not our day. That is the only way to describe what occurred out on Plattsburg yesterday, not our day. The Lawnporn-Murray’s Brewery-Old Pete’s-Stag and Hunter Camels took the field brimming with confidence and bravado, but it was not our day. We out hit the Storm 8-2 and yet, after keeping scores level through the first hour and half, some questionable managing decisions and errors cost us dearly. In a game that ended 7-5 the way of the Storm, it was there for us to win. Upon first glance of the running stat sheet from the past two games, one question springs to mind – in a division where most catchers struggle to make the throw back to the pitcher, why have only three players recorded a stolen base?
The answer is of course, that most of our Camels, are still only calves. While the side is improving, there are some fundamentals lacking. Of course, as the season progresses I expect these errors will fade and the Caravan will play with such finesse they would give the 1927 Yankees a run for their money. The skills are there, the execution is not.
With a number of scouts in attendance (from the Mariners, Marlins and Hiroshima Toyo Carp) I am hopeful we did enough out there for a few players to earn a tryout. The Carp have expressed great interest in the power hitting-ace pitching phenom Matty ‘Iceman’ Rolfe. Executive Vice-President of Baseball Operations Dave Linehan has expressed concerns of allowing the Iceman to move onto the Carp. Linehan was quoted as saying, ‘[Rolfe] is the man’ post game.
Rolfe stared again with his second home run in as many games and came on to relief pitch after Hircock walked the bases loaded. Hirckock and Rolfe both inherited a bases-loaded situation from the previous pitcher, so I am sure the added pressure really helped their pitching (and I’m sure they were impressed with my call to bring them both on at that time). Hircock’s pitching style is similar to that of Chad Bradford formerly of the Oakland A’s, which may explain why he fell in the draft to the Camels. Hircock was disappointed with his pitching performance, but admitted that he was sporting a partial the whole time he was on the mound.
James Iuliano made his first career start at 1 – which I am sure he is hoping was the first of many more to come. The Italian Stallion, while not quite fitting into his uniform, was solid from the rubber and showed potential. Perhaps at times he was trying to do too much with the ball, which may have lead to some of the walks. I know I certainly got a workout behind the dish yesterday. And while I am talking about myself, for someone who proclaims to be the captain and have knowledge of the game, I made some bush league errors out there. I was more like Jason Biggs than Jorge Posada out their that is for certain. Some serious contemplation will go into figuring out if I should continue at catcher moving forward. With rookie sensation Rick ‘BDR’ Calvert-Jackson showing exceptional promise at catcher in game one, it may be time for me to accept that a young bull has come along and it’s better for the Caravan that he suit up behind the dish.
More brilliant bants from the team again this weekend, and again Perrin and Wolstenholme continue to pass on their years of knowledge to the rookie cohort. It has been very helpful to have some veterans in a side that is mostly comprised of rookies. What was delightful to see was pre-game the two veterans taking Aidan Linehan through the rules regarding stepping on the bases as you run – hopefully moving forward the General Manager/President will have another opportunity at a triple to atone for his transgression in week one. Linehan showed vast improvement in the field, displaying his superior baseball IQ when laying the tag on a baserunner, full well knowing he could never make the throw from third to first, or to second for that matter. James Warren continues to show great ability with the bat, yet no ability to steal. For a man so tall that it takes him three steps to be at second, he was unwilling to stray too far from first. Warren continues to hit at 1.000, a record he hopes to finish the season with. As Warren says, it’s all about the stats. John ‘Six One’ Dunn was given the opportunity to lead off the batting and start on the hot corner for the Camels this weekend. Dunn was replaced after an hour of play as word came down from the head office that he got the call up to Div 5. Dunn’s plate presence and cannon from third base earnt him the call up. No word yet if Dunn will be a permanent fixture in Div 5.
When the mud had dried on what was a heartbreaking day for the Camels, only two thoughts came to mind. Fuck that guy that slid into home on a walk, and we were all out there, busting our hump, for the love of the game.

I would like to nominate right-fielder #7 John Dunn as the Player of the Game in our 15-4 opening day victory over the Toronto Tigers on April 14.
Without Dunn's efforts to slowly increment the number of outs in the top of the second with each time through the lineup, our Camels were on pace to bat around continuously until the game's 2-hour limit was reached, which would have led to reversing the Camels second-inning rally instead of that in the third which was negated instead.
Thanks to Dunn's heroic 3 at-bat performance in the second, the Camels were able to end one more inning and avoid the countback rule taking effect at the end of the previous frame, which saw the Tigers holding a 3-1 lead.
Without a brave player to step up and get tagged out twice on the base paths then strike out in four pitches his next time up, the Camels 14-run rampage would likely have continued long enough to be written off with a simple "^ doesnt count time + game." and forgotten (just as their subsequent 4 run barrage they began soon after) and their undefeated record cut painfully short, therefore I believe we must give special thanks to John Dunn for keeping our perfect season alive!
Match report and interviews to come...
Let's hope they don't shit their pants before this game!
Starting Pitcher Tim Rolfebards will take the mound and Captain Sam Rhine returns from his awful layoff
The Lawnporn Camels go 1-0 without a ball being thrown. Not the way we wanted to start the season but at least our unbeaten run continues! #undefeated
Can we all band together to create a wikipedia page for the Camels? It could have active roster, some history, records, and a note of the online community ownership! Could be a cool project
Does anyone play The Show? Better yet...does anyone have any skills making logos on The Show? I'd love to get the Camels in the game on diamond dynasty
Thanks to our owners suggestion we were able to organise a beef jerky company to sponsor us with dugout snacks for this season! Only a week and a half to go until lift off!
It is too expensive for us to have them made in Oz and then send them over. Instead, we are looking at getting New Era caps made in the States and send them from there. We need at least 12 people for the minimum order. The hats are $25 USD. Let me know and we will gauge interest.
