I started working with latex some time ago, learned the basics, and after crafting several garments, I have some questions. Most of these are about the general assembly of latex pieces and how to improve the process.
1. How can I get a perfect seam?
My seams often end up with a rough texture, even after using a roller. Could this be because I press too hard with my fingers during assembly, or is it due to the quality of the latex, cleaning solvent, or glue, or too much of glue/solvent were applied? How can I achieve smooth seams? I attached images with that "rough texture", they doesn't look like air pockets.
2. How can I maintain equal seam width?
When gluing seams, I sometimes start with a 0.5 cm width but accidentally widen it to 0.7 cm partway through, creating small bumps or bulges. This is usually fine for non-straight seams (like on bras), but how can I better control seam width, especially for straight seams? I’ve tried marking every 2–5 cm or using tape, but it feels like more hassle than it’s worth. Are there better methods?
3. Applying glue to latex
A. How can I evenly apply glue without missing spots?
It’s frustrating to notice missed spots after the glue has dried, especially when the latex starts curling because of the glue nearby. Any tips to avoid this?
B. How can I speed up the uncurling process?
Sometimes uncurling takes a minute or two, but other times it takes up to 5 minutes. Is there a way to make this faster?
FYI: The latex, solvent, and glue I use are from Eurocatsuit
Good morning! I am a 25+ year photographer wanting to do more shoots with latex. I have worked with several big designers but would like to do some trade out in order to always have some items on hand. There is so much good work in here, if anyone is interested in trading images of your work for the items themselves, let me know! Lots more shots on my profile, but NSFW warning.
Im looking to get into latex crafting and I want to test on verious pieces/scraps. But it seams the only places selling bags of scrap latex are European. Where can a texan go to get some local latex?
Hi everybody !
I'm learning crafting latex, and after some attempts, I'm going to start crafting a blouse, something a bit loose with discreet flared sleeves. So it won't be tight.
Which thickness of latex should I use for that ? 0.4mm ? Should I try something less thick like 0.25mm so it looks and feel airier ?
I'm a bit lost here, I'd welcome any advice <3
Hi all, I'm trying to understand the glove making process. I understand it ti be a mold, but can't find many resources in this area. Any help you could point me to is appreciated
Hello, I made this post on latex advice but I then I found this sub and it seems like this would be a great place to ask.
I remember seeing a post on https://makinglatexclothing.com/ about reupholstering with latex and I wanted to try it out but the blog is down now, does anyone have any advice?
I remember the basic premise was to cut thicker (.50mm or more) sheets to the measurements of the cushion, add a cotton tape reinforcement to the the seams that would fold over and then glue it all down and screw things back together but if anyone has done this before I would love to hear any advice from you.
I also wanted to know if I should I still try to staple the sheet to the bottom of the seat or just hope the glue does enough?
I'm a newbie to latex craft, doing my masters and creating some simple garments to start with! I know I need to use a rotary cutter and I've been trying to use one and I just don't think it's the best quality, it doesn't fully cut the latex and it's not very sturdy...is there any that people recommend in the UK? I know this sounds like a dumb question, I don't wanna just buy another random one and that not work either! Thank you guys 💕
Hello All!
I am looking for some advice! <3
Currently on a journey of learning how to craft more professional items from latex sheeting. I am really keen to craft a belt/harness. I currently have some 0.4 & 0.8 latex sheeting. I am wondering more about the process of sandwiching material between the latex to reinforce it. Does anyone have any knowledge they could share on this process? I can't find anything online with any information about this specific thing. If not i'm going to trial & error it but I just didn't want to make lots of obvious mistakes, wasting more material! I also want to use this technique to reinforce posture correctors/chokers, so either way I'll do some trial and error. Any advice would be huuuugely appreciated! If not you can expect some sheepish pics of said efforts haha. Thanks! x
Hi all, I've been looking into casting some latex-like spikes for hoods etc. I know liquid latex is unsuitable for casting as it won't solidify on the inside, so i was looking at platinum latex to be totally body safe.
Would a fully cured bit of silicone have any interaction with latex? If it's got phalates in it will, and there's warnings on the platinum silicone that it'll not cure properly if its in contact with latex, but what about after it's cured?
TIA
A few weeks ago I needed some help understanding how to assemble the dress, and y’all explained exactly what I needed. This is the final product!
Anyone have a source to buy pre made latex sheaths that can then be glued into other garments. Like shorts, hood etc...
Hey I'm new to this and still trying to figure out lot of things. I know you can use talcum powder or a lubricant when you're putting on your latex clothes. However, I've also read that you can use talcum powder to unglue your latex sheets. About a month ago I made a high waist brief and I had a hard time trying to put in on, I put some baby powder on my latex brief so I could put it on easily and I noticed it unglued one of the layers (before I knew you can use powder to unglue) so now I'm confused. I don't know if having putting baby powder made my lawyer unglue OR was the vulcanizing fluid I used? If you use talcum powder to put your clothes that is not going to make the layers unglue?
Also, after you apply the vulcanizing fluid do you need the latex piece to rest for at least 24 hrs? I saw a tutorial on YouTube and said you can use your garment right away and no need to wait at all after you're done crafting. What are your recommendations?
Here’s a hood I made a while ago. First I tried drawing the patterns on paper from my measurements but couldn’t wrap my head around it (no pun intended) so I resorted in wrapping my head with masking tape, drawing the general shape of the patterns and adjusting them from there. I made a video of the process which is on my YouTube channel in case some of you are interested.
Next time I’d use some PVC piping to give the pigtail tubes some structure and I also have to figure out how to make gluing the nose area easier.
