Some of my faves still useful

Those IKEA LP frames are a bugger to line up properly, but this is as good as it’s gonna get.

Laserdisc Player Problem

I'm brand new to laserdiscs. Picked this Sony MDP-455 up recently but it does not work. When a laserdisc is inserted, the machine makes an effort to play as seen in the video, and then the player auto-opens. I'm not seeing a belt inside. Could that be the issue or is it common for laserdisc players to not have belts, like a record player would?

LD-S1 Tracking issue on CLD discs only, CAV runs flawlessly

Hello, was hoping someone could help point me the direction of diagnosing/repairing an issue that's popped up.

My LD-S1 was reading both CLD & CAV fine until about two weeks ago, where suddenly it can no longer properly read CLV discs. It can't seem to focus the laser, the image is massively distorted, and then it gives up after a minute. CAV discs however work perfectly from start to finish. Chapter search, frame by frame, fast forward & rewind all work with no issues.

I've looked up online, but most people seem to experience the OPPOSITE problem, with CAV not working.

Any help would be appreciated, thank you very much!

Mail call: Hellraiser, Evil Dead 2, etc.

Managed to get some very desirable LDs in one go this week. Evil Dead 2 and Hellraiser rank as some of my favourite movies, so really pleased to have them.

On Your Mark is a music video animated by Studio Ghibli. I’ve been looking for a copy that isn’t stupid money, and got lucky.

Over 1100 discs for sale

My father’s collection over the years is up for sale. All of the Star Wars, Clint Eastwood, and other hits of the 90s and 2000. Most in letterbox and all in their original packaging. If you are interested, I have a full list of titles and can forward. Hoping these can go to someone who wants to keep the culture alive.

To remove plastic or not?

What do others do with the plastic wrap on their discs? Whether sealed or just opened and left on from the previous owner.

Do you remove or leave it on?

Giving up on the MDP-510

I have been trying to repair this LD player for days and I just can't figure it out.
The player homes the laser head / sled just fine when powered up. But once it starts reading a CD, it ignores the limit switch and crashes (motor keeps going / clicking noise). The limit switch circuit itself is a really simple voltage divider setup where the three different switches results in different voltages. I'm starting to suspect the main chip (MB89795) is just busted. I've ran out of things to check.

Anyone else had similar issues that they figured out before I put it back on the junk shelf again? The player is internally similar to MDP 450 and 650 by the way.

Sell Laser Discs in LA?

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone knows where would be the best place to sell used/sealed laser discs in around Los Angeles?

We have 100+ Laser discs that we are looking to sell relatively quickly but of course want to get a reasonable price for these.

Any help would be appreciated.

Thank you!

Poly Lined Sleeves vs

Probably a dumb question, but is there any harm in replacing the so called β€œelephant condom” sleeves with poly lined record sleeves on your LDs?

I ask, because I’ve seen somewhere where someone said they wouldn’t do that because it could end up ruining the disc jacket overtime. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Sony LDP-2000 issue

I purchased this as a spare player in the mid 2000’s. Sticker says player is from 1986.

I powered it on recently and the disc keeps opening after I close it. I took the lid off to take a look inside but didn’t see anything out of the ordinary. I put the lid back on and it magically started working. Worked for a few days, then started the behavior again of kicking the disc out.

Any idea on what could be.m causing this? I doubt cleaning the lens would fix this problem.

Thank you

Pioneer CLD-3080 upgrade or mod? Want a "play everything" player but this doesn't have AC3.

Good afternoon everyone

Have been keeping an eye out for a while now and haven't seen anything. Basically where I'm at is I have a CLD-3080 that I bought off I think FBMP ~1 year ago, no picture, got it fixed and it's been good since. Flips over OK and no perceived problems.

I recently saw another player with a collection of discs for sale with no model number. Contacted seller, turns out it's a CLD-1010.

I'm assuming that a CLD-1010 would not be an upgrade from a 3080 correct?

I've not yet seen any players for sale in my area with AC3 output. The 3080 has both S-video and optical S/PDIF.

At this point I'm wondering if it would be worthwhile to have my CLD-3080 modded to provide an AC3 output. In the opinion of this group is that worth doing, or would that a) not produce the same results that using a player designed with said output would or b) lower the value of the unit?

the 3080 is in nice shape and I have two remotes for it, one working and one not. The only obvious flaw, other than ~35 years of minor wear and tear, is the little control drawer doesn't latch like pretty much every one I see in pictures - the tech who replaced the bad capacitor that was killing my video said it'd take a lot of disassembly to fix it and he doubted he could get the part anyway, so I've left it.
