Thoughts on the NPJ Article?

I assume some or most of you have heard about or seen the Natchitoches Parish Journal article about some attorney alumni trying to get people together to sue the school.

Being a more recent graduate we knew about the court case during my time, but it was never so publicized outside of the student body. We didn't know about the ALLEGED destruction of evidence and perjury though.

Any thoughts about all this?

What was your ACT score and GPA when you applied? (And what year?)

Since we're getting an influx of prospect students on here I thought it'd be helpful to share our own ACT's and GPA's to help ease some prospect's anxieties about applying.

For example I applied last year and got in with a 26 ACT score and a 3.4 GPA, never been in a club and had just a handful of community service hours

Do I have any chance of getting in

I'm currently a 14 year old freshman attending NCHS, and I want to know if an application would even be worth my while. I have a 3.4 GPA, a 33 PreACT score with a perfect science score, and in seventh grade, I won a major literacy award through Junior Beta Nationals. I also have advanced scores in all of the standardized tests currently cited on my transcript.

However, my attendance is terrible. I missed six days unexcused in 18 weeks, (due to illness that we couldn't afford a doctor's visit for, and thus no doctor's note) which at NCHS is more than enough to automatically fail all my classes if I don't participate in attendance recovery-- which I am. Is this going to harm my chances of getting in? If so, how much? would an application even be worthwhile anymore?

Applying this year!

Hi all! I'm applying this year and I'm wondering if my stats will be enough to get me in.

I have a 3.7 UW GPA, and have taken pretty much every honors course my school has offered Freshman-Sophomore year (exc. Geometry and French). In those classes, I've only had B's in HN Biochemistry and HN Alg II, and B pluses in HN Eng II and Geometry.

I got a 1180 on the PSAT, and I am a current sophomore.

I'm in NHS, and if everything goes okay this year I should be participating in LSU's Stately Oaks festival.

How likely is it to be rejected?

Hey, I’m thinking of applying for the next school year. I think I have a good chance. I have good stats and such. But anyway, I’m wondering for a good student, is it still likely to be rejected? If anyone knows how many students get turned away. I’m just trying not to worry; if I knew my chances it would help some. Thanks

I really want to go to school here, just wanna know if I have a chance. I have a friend who graduated last year and he said it’s mostly just about the spots being filled. Is this so??? 😅

What's LSMSA really like?

i'm a freshman who is currently applying to go to LSMSA next year. (all i have left is the school tour and interview)

i have done a LOT of research in the past few months about this school since one of my teachers presented it to me, (i've always gotten great grades in school and she told me it was a good fit for my academic level) and i'm very excited to go if i do get accepted.

if/before i get accepted, i want to know: what is this school really like? the food, the workload, the living situation, anything and everything. what can i expect from this school if i get accepted? i'd love to hear from any current/former students about this, since like i mentioned, i'm super excited.

thanks!

Applying to LSMSA

Hi, everyone I was wondering if my stats are good enough to be accepted into LSMSA.

Currently have taken over 20 classes if including this year
3.5 GPA Overall for the Fall Semester
ACT: English 17, Math 22, Reading 22, Science 22.
Leap Scores: English 1 (Mastery), Algebra 1 (Mastery) , English 2 (Mastery) , Geometry (Basic), Biology (Mastery)

Placed 1st in the Regional Science Fair 2023, Placed 2nd at the Regional Science Fair 2024, and also have twice gotten Award for Earth and Environmental Science.

I answered honestly for all the other questions on the application.

Hello queen

I am someone who really wants to go to LSMSA. Next year I would be a junior. I am applying for junior year. But would I be able to have the same experience and take the many extra curricula’s I want if I only do it senior year? Would I have as good of a chance if I applied for senior year. The main reason I want to go is for college reasons and finding my right career path.

How Good Is This School?

I (F14) have been wanting to go to LSMSA since sixth grade, I'm in eighth for reference. My older brother went for the last two years for high school and my sister went for six weeks or so but decided it wasn't for her. In social settings I'm much more like my brother and I've gone to their summer camp for two years and loved it. I do art, acting, lacrosse, horse riding, and amateur photography. I was wondering what all they had to offer similar to that. I don't live to far away and would be able to go home every weekend easily. It seems like a good pick but I'm not sure if it's as good as I think. I know I can only go for my last three years of high school but I really wanna go

graduation

does anyone know if you HAVE to walk the stage for graduation? ik it’s a requirement that all students have to attend, but for seniors, do they have to walk? it’s not like you even get your diploma that day anyway …

Question Regarding Goals of the School

Hello everyone,

I will start off by saying that I didn't graduate from this institution. But I know a few people who did. I made this post regarding one person in particular.

I know someone who graduated from LSMSA back in 2008. She has a B.A. General Studies degree from Northwestern State in Natchitoches (not a top-tier university) and (at some time later than 2012) went on to earn a Masters degree in Counseling.

She apparently works as secretary at a public high school (not LSMSA, a regular high school).

I was under the impression that the school was about Math and Science (typically hard sciences). Is there a peculiar way this institution views those disciplines. I was also told that most of the students are very socially adept and "well-rounded". The lady is not very well-rounded. She is very shy and doesn't really communicate with people unless she has to.

As a teenager, I was generally told that a general studies degree does not hold much value in the job market and that I should study something more practical. Was I given the wrong advice? And what do you look for in an LSMSA student.

Application Process Length

About how long does it take to get accepted into the school? I just finished my interview not to long ago and i’ve heard nothing since then. I’ve been really anxious since the interview and I hope that they were able to see my true personality from the video. However, consider the amount time in between, does this mean I didn’t make it in?

Homework

How often do the classes as LSMSA give out homework? Are the due dates usually the next day after the day the homework was given out?

Question on Homework/Schoolwork

At my current school, I have all A’s, but I don’t like my current school right now due to the amount of busy work I have to do (along with a few other reasons). Its not hard to finish or too time consuming, its just that I hate doing something that wastes my times and I learn nothing from. 80% of the work I have in my classes are either just copying down notes or some assignment that doesn’t improve my understanding of the subject.

Is LSMSA any different?

Edit: I’ve looked around this subreddit and have found people calling it a “cult” and no where near as good as people crack it up to be and that most people are unhappy there. I’m assuming this is just a vocal minority who’ve had a poor experience at lsmsa right? Everyone else I look I don’t see people saying that besides here

how is the school and workload?

Going next year as a sophomore and I was wondering what the school life and workload is? According to a few people on the r/LSMSA sub, they claim that LsMsa is very stressful and not worth it. So, as current students and alumnis, how does your experience compare to the rumours? How stressful is the workload really?

Can I get in with bad grades?

I don’t have good grades by any means, however I have excellent testing scores on regular tests, leap, etc however due to how they weigh grades here (DSHS) a lot of teachers make class work (which I’m not as great at) worth more than tests . I am also able to get recommendations and I’m a gifted kid. Do I have a shot at getting in?

Phone policy?

Im trying to get in, im aware you probably cannot have one out in class as this is a serious school. How about in dorms? I am hoping to be able to use my phone when I am not studying. But I will not stay up late.

How demanding is the workload? Should I attend? Can I even get in?

I want to pursue my interests outside of school and want to make sure I have enough time to do so. I’m finishing up freshman year at my own high school right now with a 4.0 and a 30 on the ACT which only took moderate effort.

Although I do not want to leave behind my friends at my old school (LSMSA is ~1 hour away), some of the courses such as Calculus 3, Differential equations, and Mobile App Design really intrigue me. I’ve always been interested in math, but even in my honors geometry class I get bored and my school only goes up to Calculus I.

My Parents don’t really want me to go, but if I really want to, they will let me. This is because I will have to live on campus instead of at home. I can take care of myself well except for organization. My room is very messy and disorganized, so I do not know if I would adjust well or not.

Although my test scores and GPA are high, I do not have very many extracurriculars.

Any Advice?

Hi! I’m an incoming sophomore and I’m super nervous. I don’t know if this is still up, but figured I’d give it a shot. I had the smarts to get into the school, but don’t know if I have the smarts to stay in it. Are there any tips someone can give me? What classes should I take? I’ve currently already taken English 1 & 2, Algebra 1 & 2, and AP Human Geography. Thanks!

Can’t find anything on this. Does everyone that applies go through the interview process? I’m just trying to see where I stand so far. I am in a 5 point gpa scale and have a 4.9 but only a 20 on my Act super score being 24.
