Has anyone gone to see the Yutate Kagura ritual at Jōnangū Shrine? I'll be in Kyoto that day but only in Kyoto for two days total, so time is limited.
I fully understand and respect that religious rituals are not there for the sake of tourist entertainment--it's a privilege to be able to view these rituals. But asking from the perspective of a tourist with limited time, is it something I really shouldn't miss even though it's a relatively big time commitment, when there is so much else to explore? Sounds really special, but between commuting there, arriving early to try to get a seat, and commuting back, it's probably 3 hours invested, and January isn't warm out.
Thanks!
Hi, I went to Gion in August and had a popsicle from a little shop on Matsubara-dori (I think?) with a sign that advertised that they don't melt. It was kiwi fruit blended but also kind of had a little bounce? Idk what it was but it was amazing and I keep thinking of them.
Does anyone know what this is called? I want to try to make them. What makes them like that?
The shop was on the right side when heading down the hill. I tried going through google street view but all the stores look closed so the gates are down.
Also, google is only showing me an ice cream that doesn't melt, and that's not what this was. This was actually fruit.
A guy (foreigner) came to lawson where I work at and ate a onigiri and gave the wrapper to my colleague to throw it and went out.we found out later and now my colleagues are searching for his face in cctv camera
Does anyone know of some good game stores for magic the gathering in Kyoto? Good if they also had english cards.

Hi everyone, I’m planning to visit the shrine on 2nd Jan but I’m slightly confused. On the official website, it indicated that the shrine is open all year, but there’s a (5/1~11/30) beneath the timing. Does that mean the shrine is closed from 1st Dec to 4th Jan?
We bought a couple of packets in a store in Nishiki market. Now regret not getting more.
Is it possible to order online or find it elsewhere?
Hey everyone! I’m a long-term student here, and as an insomniac, I find myself wide awake and looking for things to do after midnight. I’d love suggestions on peaceful, interesting, or unique late-night activities in Kyoto. I’m not into partying, drinking, or clubbing, but I’d enjoy exploring quieter spots or unique experiences that Kyoto has to offer after dark. I enjoy bicycling alongside Kamo river but it's not really fun if I do it everyday.
Also, I’d be interested in meeting other night owls or insomniacs – always nice to have company for those 2 a.m. adventures. Appreciate any suggestions or tips on how to make the most of Kyoto after hours! Thanks in advance!
Hello everyone! Looking for a wooden oni mask like in the photo. Not something too touristy or plastic (saw a lot on the way up to Kiyomizu today). Does anyone know where in Kyoto I can get one from?
Hi everyone!
I am currently in the process of application for a long-term study course at KICL (2y), and I am in a dilemma regarding the accommodation aspects.
I prefer an apartment, instead of dorms, and they offer support when renting with one of the partnered RE agencies, which is awesome, of course.
However, I took a look at those websites, and most apartments without basic furniture (many have appliances, though) have reasonable prices, given the area and other criteria (40,000 - 55,000¥). Ready-to-live apartments, as it should be, cost more and Key Money is often required, plus the agency fee in some cases.
Narrowing down:
Last thing I want is to break any (unwritten) rule regarding the school and, generally, etiquette, or give an impression of some "off-the-line" behavior. Therefore, from your experience, please:
a) Should I go with the flow and choose an apartment with their support, with one of the agencies they are partnered with, even if it is more expensive comparing to other possibilities? Or...
b) Would it be fine if I just rent with a separate real-estate agency, on my own? To mention, I have had a positive experience with a local, foreigners-friendly agency, that has better offers in terms of requirements and prices.
Any input would be much appreciated, thank you all in advance.
Hello everybody,
I usually play in Osaka but if by any chance if there is a player community in Kyoto, since i live there, it would be nice to get in touch !
Have a nice day

Annoying teenager asking for walkers crisps ,please help parents.
We just left Kyoto yesterday and are still dreaming about the restaurant Tori Soba. The broth was thicker than usual and the noodles were bigger + softer. So good. Below is the description on their website, seems to just say they’re special noodles rather than the name of a specific style. We’re in Tokyo now and wondering how to find something similar. Any suggestions on what to search?
“ 鹿児島県産の鶏をメインに少しの宮崎・大分の豚骨を強火で煮込んだ濃厚鶏豚スープに、国産醤油ダレのキレがうま味をアップデート。 1杯ずつブレンダーで「強制乳化」する事で、コク増し。 麺はスープに負けないように中太の特製麺で存在感。 “
I'm currently staying in Kyoto and self-studying japanese and the history of Kyoto. As you can probably imagine, a hostel is not always the best place to do this.
Does anyone know a nice cafe or little restaurant where you can sit down for a longer time and study on your laptop?
Thank you for helping me out.
Hi there, I'll be making a trip to Japan this Dec, and plan to propose to my gf whilst in Kyoto. Does anyone have any tips / recommendations on florists to buy a bouquet of roses from? Ideally near the Kyoto-Kawaramachi Station as our hotel is nearby there, but otherwise anywhere else within central Kyoto area is fine.
Anyone have an idea how to go about it? Im enjoy fishing and its right there. I can see the fish in there. I sometimes see people fishing but im still a bit intimidated.
Hi everyone, I've tried looking all over for exact information but I can't find any information regarding available dates for Biwako Valley for December 2024.
I have a trip comming up and was wondering if it would be possible to go up the ropeway around the 22-24th of December, though I have been struggling to find information regarding this
Hi guys, I might have a yeast infection (male) or something like that. It’s so frustrating so I’m considering going to a dermatologist. Do you guys know any good dermatologist who speak english or at least uses google translate? I’d like to go to a clinic where i can use my national health insurance. Every clinic I see on google seems to specialize only in facial skin problems, like blemishes, acne etc. ありがとうございます😊
I will play some old songs in kawabata park near the river. Hope Saturday will not be a raining day.

I wanted to know how the locals think about the tourist and the overtourism. Is it a realy bad? Are there things you like or dislike? Thank you in advance, for answers
Hi, we are currently in Kyoto (staying close to Kyoto Station). My wife got ill 2 days ago (fever, coughing, chest pain). She is pregnant in her 7th week which makes it hard to take certain medicine she would under normal circumstances.
Are there general doctors we can go see?
The hotel recommended the hospital close to Kyoto station. We will probably go there. Is it ok to just walk in? (with a mask of course). Or shall we take an ambulance? In our country waiting times for walk ins are quite high, i would take the ambulance if she was as weak as she was currently, and giben she is pregnant with fever.
In case she got covid, what will happen? What are the current covid guidelines in Japan? How do we self isolate as tourists if our hotel stay ends the day after tomorrow?
Its a bit overwhelming right now sry for the unstructured questions.
Since we are tourists i reslly don"t know how hospitals work but I assume we go in, register, pay in advance and submit a refund for our insurance in our country. What is the potential cost were looking at?
And, lastly; which of the 2 hospitals close to the station is the right one?
I’m in Kyoto and really want to watch the Worlds 2024 Finals with other fans. Are there any good bars, cafes, or public spots in Kyoto where people usually gather for esports events? It’d be awesome to watch it somewhere with a good atmosphere!
Thanks for any suggestions!
