I'm a first time cat owner! I adopted my kitten today he's 6 months old and he's been under the bed all day and i know this is normal but i wonder how long it takes! I put everything in the bed room so that he gets used to the room first before the rest of the apartment. I noticed he eats when i’m not in the room but i’m just glad he’s eating. I think he's scared of me but when he sniffs my hand he lets me pet him and he starts to purr. Now he's under the bed still but meowing. I don't know what to do.
Update: He’s getting a lot more comfortable with my presence but he still goes back under the bed every time. He doesn’t like to play and i haven’t seen him eat today but he’s eaten a few snacks. Is it just rehoming stress? Am i doing something wrong?
Someone in a friend group posted that she found a group of kittens underneath her backyard deck. She wanted to give the kittens away to a good home as she attempted to call shelters/humane society/spca but they were all full. My family have been talking about getting a cat/kitten for a few months now and feel that this would be a great opportunity. We would be first time cat owners.
I reached out to the poster and asked if we could meet with the kittens and she agreed. After spending an hour with them, playing and petting, none of them were interested in myself or my 10yo who I took with me. When we held them they quickly wanted down. They were interested in playing with each other and exploring new surroundings. They were also interested in the family who is taking care of them, following their feet, climbing their legs and purring when they pick them up. The only one that actually came up to myself and my 10yo was already spoken for by someone else. The poster can’t keep all of them. We really wanted to take one home but now unsure because none of the available kittens chose us. What to do?
TLDR: A homeowner found kittens under her deck. She is giving them away to good homes. We visited the kittens spending about an hour with them and none of them chose us. Should we still take one home?
Hey guys,
I got a 4 month old kitten from the vet about 4 days ago. She is well socialized to cats and humans, and although we have not introduced her to our older cat yet, she's completely comfortable, playful and active in the house. A normal kitten.
She was with her mother until that point and completely litter trained.... Apparently. When we took her home, we cleaned out a spare litterbox we had from our other cat and put clay litter in it. Although she would dip her toes in and kind of play with it, she wouldn't go in. Later that night, she peed on the bed. She'll meow and scratch at the mattress and then squat down and pee. This has happened either while we're sleeping or before we can pick her up pretty much every night. We put her in the litter box after and also when she would meow and scratch. After, we spray it with the enzyme cleaner and wash the sheets.
Having gotten her on Wednesday and having already had 2 accidents, I called the vet Friday asking about the litter and they gave us the pellets she used. They gave us some, but by that point we had gotten her to use the clay litter about three times. The vet also confirmed she had no urinary issues and had already been assessed before we took her home. Not knowing exactly what to do, we replaced it with the pellets and moved her food and water across the room. I guess this confused her more because she became avoidant of it.
So we got a new litter box for her yesterday and mixed the pellets from the vet and the clay litter. Unfortunately, this has done nothing. Instead of just being avoidant and/or hopping out ASAP, she now holds out her legs to try and stop from getting in. It's like we're holding her over a swimming pool.
Does anyone have any advice?

I put everything in the bed room so that he gets used to the room first before the rest of the apartment. I was worried if he hasn't eaten but noticed the shape of the food has changed so i'm glad. She’s only 10 weeks so she’s not that big. I wasn’t told her breed so I automatically assumed she was dlh but her strong facial features and huge ears lead me to believe otherwise. I’m hoping she doesn’t get that big so I’m hoping she’s just domestic long hair lol, but what do you all think?
Our lil baby
