Wearing the fly plaid without the kilt?

I have some old tartan fabric but there isn't enough to make a whole kilt, i imagine i can wear it as a fly plaid though if i stuff both ends down my trousers and bunch it up with a pin.

Just a small idea i had, would it work or would it look stupid, werid or out of place?

I want to get a kilt, anything to look out for?

Hi, I wanted to try wearing a kilt because they seem like really nice comfy clothing, just wanted to ask if there's anything to look out for so I'm not being offensive running around in a kilt as a skinny german dude, like specific patterns that have strong cultural backgrounds, stuff like that

Kilts basically ruined my life

My love for celtic culture and my desire to wear a kilt basically ruined my life, i'm hated the world over for my views, how i view the world, how i want to wear a kilt, etc people were nice to me at first but they started getting nasty when they discovered who i really was, all kilts gave me were suicidal thoughts and stalkers, and everyone just saying to buy it, i wish it was that easy :( and my dad calls kilts skirts and it's easy to see he won't let me have one let alone wear it, i bought up my parents many times and all you did was said to ignore them then compared my life to fiction.

Let it be known that if you ever find out you have irish, scottish, whatever heritage, don't do it! leave it and forget about it, endulging in celtic culture will ruin your life and make you hated the world over, why? because of your own political views for your home country that have nothing to do with your celtic heritage.

All of you are free people who are free to make whatever choices they want in life, it's not the same for everyone, if you're prepared to stalk me for having helicopter parents and being concerned of what they'd think of a kilt, go tell an african kid to buy a rolls royce.

Shopping while tall

The sizing guides all say to measure from my naval to the floor while kneeling which is 26" (yes I am rather tall).

It looks like I have a huge selection of 22-24" rise kilts all over Amazon & Etsy for under $100, or I can give Sport Kilt $300+ for something in my measured size.

Is that 2" going to be noticeable?

Is there anther seller that will sell me a longer kilt for less?

Also, I assume that extra $200+ is buying more than 2" of fabric, how huge is the quality difference?

List of good makers?

Hello all!

I bought my first traditional kilt a little while back and it's just alright. Nothing great, but not terrible. I am looking to get another one, but I want it to be high quality.

As of right now, I am only aware of USAKilts (I am based on the US) and Lochcarron. What are some similar makers that I could look at?

Also, any experience with House Of Tartans in particular?

Many thanks!

Modern/Contemporary Kilt Brands

I am looking to get another kilt. I have a Utilikilt, but I just looked at their site, and they are way out of my price range. Any recommendations as to other brands in the same style?

Help with Hybrid kilt seller

Hello Reddit Kilt wearers

Looking for a hybrid kilt for daily wear, t-shirt and flip flops kinda thing. OD green with Clark or Ellis Tartan. Cargo pockets SEWN INTO the fabric. I can't stand that dangly clippy strappy crap that flaps and floops around when you walk, and/or gets caught on everything. I have a khaki kilt that I just took the damn pockets off, cuz they flap'd n floop'd around whenever I would walk, and would get caught on every hip to thigh level protrusion I would happen to walk past!

I really like the one found at
https://primekilt.com//olive-cotton-hybrid-utility-kilt.html
but, they don't have Clark or Ellis tartans. The pockets look flappy, but I could probably sew them down myself. And at only 50 bucks, Im not really sure of the quality either.

Can anyone recommend a kilt maker that can match what I'm looking for? Thanks!

What makes a sgian dubh?

Is it just any short, single-edged fixed blade knife? Is it one intended to be a sgian dubh? Is it an aspect of the shape?

I ask because I will be getting a dirk soon, and want a sgian dubh as well, since I haven't bought one yet. A similar look is also wanted. The maker has a simple knife, and I don't know whether it will work. Any answers appreciated!

Knife in question

Help me with the size!!

Hello!

Greetings from Costa Rica, I am a fan of bagpipes and consequently of kilts. Recently a friend gave me one, but, it is 10 inches bigger than my size, my waist is 82 cm, that is 32", and the size of the kilt is 42", that is 10" more, which is a lot, It's a nice "heritage of Scotland" kilt and well, there aren't many in the country and nobody knows how to adjust it, so I'm asking for advice to adjust it and not just keep it in the closet, thanks and greetings from Costa Rica.

Kilts with elastic waistband and drawstring that you pull up like shorts, instead of wrapping around the waist and buckling?

I'm looking for a kilt put on like shorts, rather than wrapped around like a traditional kilt. Are there any brands that make a kilt like that or am I going to have to go to a tailor for a custom kilt? Thanks.

I am buying my first kilt for my son's wedding. I am very excited! I have been looking at way too many websites and I was hoping someone would be able to help me narrow it down. Has anyone purchased an argyll kilt outfit that they were happy with and could point me to a good company? I am also not trying to spend a ton of money. Please Help!

Kilt rules?

Hi, ive finally been handed down my kilt, having been passed down my familys female side when they turn 16 And wished to asked a question about it, as my father is very adamant that the kilt must be worn on the hips, not the waist, But i far prefer how it looks whilst worn on the waist, and would likely wear it more if worn like that, but obviously still wish to wear it correctly

This sub seems to be primarily men so it might not be something you deal with, but you still have more knowledge then me So in your opinion, does it matter if the kilt is sat on the hips or waist?
