I found this amazing resource for learning Kazakh and I think it will beneficial to many. It's called Abai institute and they have both a web version and are also available on the play store and ios. Sälem dostar! So there’s this new song by Kazakh group Irina Kairatovna called „Чика" and there’s an extremely long word in the chorus which I don’t understand. The lyric in question is „сендер қанағаттандырылмағандықтарыңыздан“. What does this translate to in English (or Russian) and how can you break this word down into its components? I only know the meaning has something to do with „unsatisfied“

both mean "always" apparently but is there a difference in context of use?

Hello, I have some questions about how to pronounce the city names Павлодар and Петропавл in standard Kazakh as follows:

* How is the "о" in both names pronounced? I think I hear some Kazakh speakers on YouTube pronounce it as somewhat like "ы" instead of "о" (in Kazakh-language videos). I'm not sure whether this pronunciation is influenced by Russian pronunciation or whether it is acceptable in standard Kazakh too.

* Is the sequence "вл" pronounced as /вл/ or /выл/?

I'm starting to learn a bit of Kazakh for my job and have been having trouble finding examples of authentic Kazakh Cyrillic handwriting. I'm familiar with Russian Cyrillic cursive and am particularly looking to see how the handful of uniquely Kazakh letters are written. Would any native speakers be able to write a few sentences in cyrillic or direct me to a resource? Thank you!

I am translating a memoir from German to English that has several transliterated Russian words. What could these be?

1. Father always hired out quite a few laborers (Tooplayash) for cutting the grain, who would then stay until threshing time and get room and board from us.

For context, this was a farm in Petropavl. Here are some potential meanings suggested by another user:

The first word is probably from the Tatar language.

There is a reference to Irtysh, so it might be in Siberian Tatar or some other Turkic language.

The modern Volga Tatar language has e.g. the word "туплаучы":gatherer. When transcribed in Latin script, it could be rendered as "tuplawshy".

Anyway, it seems to be of Turkic origin, as the stem "tup, tupl" conveys the notion of collecting, gathering(also togther) etc in multiple Turkic languages.

And then he/she was thinking maybe Kazakh instead of Tatar:

Then it's probably from Kazakh "төпеле../töp(e)le.." in the same sense of gathering together etc..

Hi! Does anyone know if there has been published any language learning books based on the new Latin alphabet? 😊

I'm learning the Kazakh language now, but most of the materials are from either military mission guide books or Christian missionary books, some potboiler tutorials written for foreign language learners. They are mostly terrible, they view language from a western lens, so I wish to get some books that are actually used by Kazakh K12 students. I want to learn real Kazakh.

I can speak ok Kazakh(no sophisticated topic ), and able to read the Arabic version andSlavic version of written Kazakh very slowly.

So I'm bored and have some time(although I have very important upcoming exam after 2 days that I'm not fully prepared to) so I decided to make a small post regarding how you can respond if someone will ask how things are going (qalaysiñ, qaliñ qalay)

Not sure if this will actually be useful to someone because this idea came to my mind just now and I didn't think about it much.

You can reply as following:

Жақсы(Jaqsi) - Good(I'm good, I'm doing well)

Болады(Boladi) - literally - "(it) will" future tense for verb to be (boluw), in this case means "it's ok", "it's fine"

Шүкір(Shükir) - common reply among older generations, probably a contraction from "Аллаға шүкір"(Allaga shükir) - thanks to God implying thanks to God I'm fine.

Күшті (Küshti) - literally "strong" but it has another meaning as "cool", here however means you're doing great.

Жаман(jaman) - bad

Не очень/ онша(ма) емес - Russian and Kazakh equivalents, Kazakh one is probably a calque, both used to mean "so-so", not so good.

Керемет/Тамаша(Keremet/Tamasha) - similar to күшті.

Заебись - vulgar, also means things are going great. Actually in Russian but can be used by some Kazakhs.

I think those are main ones that I can think of, other Kazakhs may add to the list and correct the usages listed. Бәріңізге қайырлы түн

I am curious about Kazakhstan, but of course have no hope of visiting until the borders open there (and I probably won't go in winter 😅). I think the language sounds cool as well.

Most of the scant resources I can find for learning are (naturally) written in Kazakh Cyrillic, with the exception of a couple sites like Soyle.kz. However, the Latin alphabet used on those resources is already out-of-date with regard to the latest standard (Feb 2021, ñ for the "ng" sound), and is rather unintuitive for me. (The latest standard is closer to Turkish, which is intuitive for me; the current standard in use is closer to Turkmen, which is not.)

I wouldn't have too much of an objection to Cyrillic except I started learning Russian and "у" is fine but "уұү" is too much 😅 For now I think I'll start with audio only (Pimsleur-style), but after that, which orthography will be most practical? I'm guessing Cyrillic since most small businesses will not be able to afford the cost of new signage and printed materials, etc.?

Hello! I would love to grow the Kazakh community on LangCorrect! I would love to grow in both native speakers and learners!

We currently have (at least) one member who speaks Kazakh natively; he also speaks Russian and has been active in correcting Russian journals. To date, he has given over 400 corrections in Russian. We don't have any learners for Kazakh right now.

The idea of LangCorrect is to write a journal in your target language and be corrected by a native speaker. We also have plans to include audio and a mobile app in the near future!

We have just launched a 30 day writing challenge, which I think is a perfect time to grow the Kazakh community. We are only on day three so if you think you can catch up, feel free to join!
