I'm trying to watch "Sherman's March" but the subtitles are way out of sync with the picture and I can't turn them off. Is anyone else unable to turn off subtitles? I have contacted Kanopy support but haven't heard back.
Hello, I have a newer LG TV, I'm attempting to watch Kanopy on this particular LG. Unfortunately there is no Kanopy app for this LG, so I attempted to access Kanopy through the browser. I'm able to login to Kanopy using the browser, but am unable to play any of the selected titles. When I select a title, the movie begins, but I immediately get a spinning wheel.
Is there a way to use Kanopy through a LG tv?

For dry January, it is only fitting that we look towards a movie that is all about drinking.
Four friends, all teachers at various stages of middle age, are stuck in a rut. Unable to share their passions either at school or at home, they embark on an audacious experiment from an obscure philosopher: to see if a constant level of alcohol in their blood will help them find greater freedom and happiness.
Winner of the 2021 Academy Award for Best Foreign Language Film.
Personally, I enjoyed this film and upon giving it a rewatch, I believe it still holds up. On the other hand, alcoholism and too much drinking can easily ruin ones life. I am probably biased towards this movie as well since I am a huge Mads Mikkelsen fan.
Separately, twitter links are banned.
Let me be clear - I love Kanopy. I use it all the time. I think the selection and presentation are as good as any other streaming service. However, the app is very annoying.
I usually access Kanopy via the app on my Fire TV stick. Since the Fire OS is a fork of Android, I assume this is the Android app with some tweaks to address scaling the UI for televisions. Access via the web is much better.
The issues I have are with navigation - specifically, using the BACK button. If I search and click on a title from the search, when I go back, I have to re-enter the search query to access the results again. If I'm in the main menu and I've scrolled 20-30 titles to the right and click on a title, when I click BACK, the app returns me to the beginning of the row I'm on. (I hope that makes sense)
In addition, as I scroll to the right on any row, the titles repeat twice before new titles appear in the row. For example, titles 1-10 repeat in slots 11-20 before the app shows new selections at slot 21.
When I first started using the app, I didn't have these issues. The only issue was with how tiny the icons and text were. When they fixed that so the app scaled to TV size, they apparently made a mess of some other things. I know they probably don't have the cash to hire the best programmers, but these seem like simple things to address.
While I'm sure some people will chime in with, "you get what you pay for," the fact is that all of us who have access ARE actually paying for the service through our local libraries which are still mostly funded by taxes. I clearly feel it's okay to respectfully point out issues.
Anyone else seeing these problems?
works on one phone but not another. gets DRM error.

Anyone seen this? Netflix works, so it's not Widevine. But I can no longer get Hoopla or Kanopy to work. The sites are fine. I can select a movie. But then it just doesn't start playing. I've been using Netflix with Firefox on Win7. Since this problem started I've tried it in 4 configurations: Updated FF and Chromium on Win7 and Win10. Nothing works. I'm out of ideas.
I tried Hoopla support but just got bot email responses. I haven't tried contacting Kanopy.
Anyone else having issues atm?
The Kanopy app worked on our Samsung TV up until three days ago. A movie will play for only 10-15 seconds (without audio) and then returns to the movie info page. I have followed Kanopy's troubleshooting tips, plus I have removed and reinstalled the app, cleared tv cache, etc. The Samsung TV is a 2019 model with Tiezen 5.0. Any advice is appreciated.
[EDIT: The explanation is that the library has a monthly budget for total usage, and one it hits the limit, all users have to wait until the beginning of the following month before they have access again.]
Hi - new to this sub and Kanopy. I have used Kanopy without problems on my Apple TV. However, when I hit "Play" on ANYthing in my watch list today, I get this error:
What does that mean? Is it temporary? Permanent? I can call the library Monday and ask, but was hoping to view this film over the weekend. Thanks.
I hope everyone in this sub has a great Christmas. I’m using Kanopy to watch The Bishop’s Wife for the first time, but it’s clear I should have searched the holiday selection far earlier than Christmas Eve. A lot of movies buried deep in there I remember from my youth. It has Mrs. Santa Claus, which takes me WAY back to grade school.
Anyone else finding some Christmas favorites on the app?
My son and I watched the movie Jules together, and we both enjoyed it. The cast was great. The encounter from another world along with quirky plot twists kept my ten year old interested in the film that also centered on the topic of aging. Afterwards, we had a discussion about one of my grandparents that lived with dementia for more than a decade.
We hope to explore Kanopy more while my son is on Christmas break.
I understand they may not have the film at my library, I am trying to come up to speed with indie classics as well as new masterpieces.
Thanks 🙏
I can't update my OS because I'm afraid my machine wont run it and I don't want to spend the money tbh until I finally have to. But I don't know what else could be preventing movies from playing. Other streaming works. Like youtube etc. I'm bummed out. I miss Kanopy
So previously I used Kanopy for the Great Courses content, which was an extremely enriching experience to learn tons about all sorts of topics from experts in their field. In particular, I enjoyed the fact that, while you could only watch one a month due to the Ticket cost, you got a considerable amount of time to go through it all in 21 days.
Unfortunately when I logged in today to peruse the catalogue, it looks like they changed how long these courses are accessible per duration from 21 days to 7 days, the same as standard TV show seasons.
Most of these courses are between 20 and 40 lectures long, with lectures lasting just a little under an hour each, making it particularly tough to finish within 7 days. Additionally, since the content is college level discussions, speeding through it isn’t exactly the ideal way to really learn from them. Does anybody know if this drain is permanent/intentional or if something funky is going on here?
The Kanopy app for TVs (AirTV device to be specific) is sorely missing a trailers feature. It’s a pain to have to exit the Kanopy app to watch a trailer on the YouTube app then when getting back to Kanopy having to scroll to find the movie again.
The Kanopy app for smartphones shows trailers. Why doesn’t the TV app also show trailers?

Without internal discussion, we have elected to kick off our monthly movie club with The Night of the Hunter starring Robert Mitchum.
Personally I first saw this movie in 2009 (Shout Out to Jeffrey Middents at American University) and cannot recommend this movie enough. The synopsis from Kanopy
A tall, handsome “preacher” roams the countryside, spreading the gospel…and leaving a trail of murdered women in his wake! To Reverend Harry Powell (Robert Mitchum), the Lord’s work is more about taking souls than saving them, especially when money is involved. Now his sights are set on $10,000, but two little children are the only ones who know where it’s hidden and it’s their secret … for now.
What are your thoughts on the movie?
Howdy folks,
The mod team is going to try to engage more and make this a more happening place. We will post a stickied movie suggestion in the next couple days to tie into Noirvember!
I couldn’t find this film available anywhere but Kanopy came through!!
Daisy Ridley gives an incredible performance in this bleak rom com.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app. I reached out to Kanopy for support.
This photo was taken from about two feet away. It seems imposing to browse. Any ideas?
It says "This samsung tv version l isn't supported. To watch kanopy, see help.kanopy.com for a list of supported devices". It was working just fine a few days ago.Am I permanently unable to use it now? I've tried looking for updates of my tv but can seem to find any.Any help would be appreciated.
I'm just gonna flat out & say, not only is this now my favorite stop motion movie ever, but easily one of the best animated movies ever made! It's emotionally charged, beautiful, hilarious, sad, but also full of tenderness & hope. One of the rare films that can make you tear up from laughter, 😂 as much as it can make you cry. 😭
Currently on Kanopy, I can't recommend it enough!
Whenever I have subtitles turned on I find that more often than not they're either too fast or too slow relative to what's on screen. I'd love to know if it's a site wide problem or somehow something only im experiencing on Kanopy
It's happened more than once where I rent a title and it turns out the quality is about 480p or so. Is there any way to tell whether the title is in HD or not?
This seems like the kind of detail that'd be included in the description section, but I didn't see anything about video quality.
The Great Courses used to be credit-free. I haven't used Kanopy in a while and I see it's now 5 tickets (is that for every individual lecture or the whole series)
I know, I ships do a search on it, but my second question is if there are ones anyone particularly recommend (if on Kanopy). Thnx
