Range USA?

Well looks like they opened! Has anyone gone yet?

I went Tuesday and again today.

Overall nice setup. The range is pretty “basic” compared to where I usually go Frontier Justice. The targets just go forward backwards and don’t have the options that Frontier has for drills and programs.

Felt bad for the RSO… guessing they have a corp rule can’t use customer guns but he seemed to really want to try my LTT PX4 out and I wish he could have…

Glad we have more options in the Northland!

Who do you use for Class 3 transfers/dealers in KCMO?

I met someone at Parma a while back and they mentioned a place in St Joe or Platte City but I forget the name. Looking for an OCL Lithium or YHM R9.

Is there a shotgun range near Olathe/Lenexa similar to the one at Pigeon Hill?

Sometimes I just want to shoot a box or two of my own clays without taking a 2hr round trip.

Indoor range?

Looking a for a good, not crazy priced, range in the KC area. South KC preferred but open. I see a lot of results on Google but figured those on this thread would have opinions. Thanks!

Golden Valley - Clinton MDC - Range Report

Few weeks ago I asked for some ranges to do some training with my main pistol. My holster setup is new, and while I've been working it through dry fire training, had yet to perform any live fire training from the holster. That and recently picked up a shot timer and wanted to practice making shots on target with a timer.
Observations:

  • Baer Solutions Standards Target - woof - I need a lot more work on follow up shots to pull off this drill. Ran it in ~15 seconds, but without good shot placement.

  • Baer Solutions - "Danny" target - nice way to warm up. Left hand needs work.

  • Lots of people for being a Thursday AM. I arrived shortly after 8am and only had the range to myself for the first 20 minutes. Several people in the 25yd, and a few showing up to the 50yd & 100yd as I was headed out. Thankfully, didn't witness any flagging or poor safety choices.

  • Bathroom was fine for MDC / outdoor standards. Maybe bring TP, don't recall if that was stocked.

  • Low ceiling shelters are a PITA for shooting pistols. Wish they hadn't slopped the 25yd shelter so low to allow visitors to stand, but understand it's probably to keep rounds closer to the berm.

May go back sometime later in the year when it's frigid outside and hope to actually have the range to myself, or go check out Perry Shooting Range.

Holster Draw Ranges

Have a weekend or two off coming up and want to practice drawing and shooting from the holster. Been working on this a lot with dry fire, but have yet to perform it with live fire. Any ranges in the KC and/or Lake of the Ozark (or in-between) that allow this?

I could leave rather early and be at the range at or near sunrise or something too if it helps avoid unsafe individuals.

Picked up a shot timer to try and make the most of my training too.

Recommended handgun training courses

Hello, I am a relatively new gun owner with some shooting experience. I would like to take further steps to educate myself and improve my skills for home defense and CCW. I have gone shooting with some friends and alone at the range myself a few times, but I feel that without formal instruction I'll start to develop bad habits. I live in the Independence area, so I would prefer a shop on the Missouri side so I don't have to drive so far.

I took an intro class at the FJ in Lee's Summit a couple of months ago and it taught me very little, with an unhelpful instructor. Going into that class, I seemed to have more experience than the rest of the group, and the instructor definitely noticed this and barely gave me any 1-on-1 time compared to the other learners. So I would like to stay away from that location, unless my experience there was a fluke.

Any recommendations are appreciated.

Gun shop on the KS side that releases guns after the 3 days waiting period

I've been delayed for a .22 lever action for weeks now at bass pro. This is not my first firearm I've purchased and I've never had more than a 3 day delay. Bass pro won't give me the gun until the BG check comes back, but from my understanding the law says gun dealers can release the firearm on a delay after 3 days. Bass pro wont due to their own corporate policy.....

Im ready to go to a smaller shop that will release it even if it means paying more for the rifle, I am on the KS side- any recommendations for gun shop to visit?

Gun range question

Is there an outdoor gun range near KC that allows you to rapid fire? I’ve always gone to MDC ranges and they don’t allow rapid fire, which really isn’t a big deal, but sometimes I want to pull the trigger more than once every 5 seconds.

BOGO suppressor

AB suppressors is offering a free .22lr can with the purchase and application of any of their amazing suppressors. Purchase must be made before 12/31/23, and Form 4 submitted before 1/31/24 to get the free suppressor. These are some of my favorite suppressors around, especially for bolt guns, made locally in KS. Let me know if I can help you get the process started.

Golden Valley MODOC range, Clinton MO Conditions

What are the current conditions of the Golden Valley unmanned range? It was fair to poor last time I was out - 2 sets benches and roof, one pistol box (?), zero target attachments (brought our own fortunately). That was some years back. Anyone been recently?

Goals:
Pattern shotgun, sight in for slugs at 50 yards.
Sight in AR. 25 yards is fine; I'll run it out to Ottawa and get it tuned for 300 plus at one of their matches.
Draw and fire drills with the pistol. (USPSA practice, OWB holster.)

Thanks in advance!

Gun Clubs

Anyone a member of Tri-County Rod and Gun Club? Looks like they require a sponsor to join. The website says to come to an open event but there aren’t any listed for the foreseeable future. Open to any private club/range really, just looking for a place to shoot that’s not run by fudds. I’m located in south KC but I’m willing to drive upwards of an hour for a good place.

Gun show across the state line?

I’m wanting to go to the gun show at the Expo Center in KCMO this weekend. The only thing is I live on the Kansas side and have only bought firearms in KS before. Will I be able to buy anything at the show since it’s in Missouri?

I tried a quick google but didn’t find much. Hopefully this isn’t a question you see all the time(sorry if it is)
