    A decade since Gamba's last 🏆

Vissel victorious, which means it's now a decade since Gamba won their last trophy. Guess today's defeat will serve as a valid reason for having a glass or two of this 110 year old whisky. Have a great evening, y'all.

Difficult to shop for merch as a Verdy fan?

I’m currently in Japan, unfortunately leaving today so no longer have time to look elsewhere, but I looked at countless stores to find the Tokyo Verdy away jersey (the black and gold one) and had zero luck. Three different Soccer Shop Kamo’s, Alpen Tokyo, even the official club shop at Ajinomoto. Most only had little trinkets or in one occasion (one of the Kamo stores) only the home jersey in small sizes.

I did notice when visiting the stadium shop the town is plastered in FC Tokyo decorations, is there just not enough love for Verdy locally? I personally decided to follow them when I took an interest in JLeague due to their story of defeat and rise back to J1 last year, and this season for them has been largely great to watch.

It's here, the Emperor's Cup Final.

Today's the Emperor's Cup Final, and it's a massive day if, like me, you're a Gamba fan as it's the team's best opportunity to win a trophy in almost a decade. I would have loved to have been back in Tokyo today but I have work commitments here in Hong Kong, so I'll be following the game on my smartphone. Fancy Usami to score today as a) he's the Kobe Killer, and b) he's had a pretty damn HOT year. Ganbare 🔵⚫️

    Emperor's Cup Final

Emperor's Cup Final this weekend. As it's Vissel in the final, I gotta feeling that Usami could be on the scoresheet. As well as his moniker (the Kobe Killer; he regularly scores against Vissel), he's had an amazing year.

    J3 Update W38

Looks like everything is basically settled in J3. Omiya and Imabari in Top 2, Toyama, Matsumoto, and Osaka in Top 6, and Fukushima will be in the Top 6 as long as:

    • They show up next week, and;
    • Yokohama shows up next week in their match against Kitakyushu

.. so that Fukushima doesn't get outscored in goal differential by Kitakyushu by 11.

J3 League Quick Saturday Morning Update

Sagamihara's loss eliminates them from the Promotion race.

Osaka's win all but assures they will be in the Top 6. They can't do worse than end up in a goal-difference tiebreak now in which it would require some insane levels of scoring by other teams for them to lose. And there are many possibilities that exist for them this weekend to officially clinch a spot.

The thread Gifu was sitting on is almost unraveled, but still technically alive.

Matusmoto's game today will go a long way to clearing up things for just about everybody, so I'll wait until after today's matches to put out a more comprehensive update.

Supachock Sarachat deserves a better club than HCS

Supachock Sarachat is an absolute powerhouse, some of the goals he's scored are phenomenal. That brace against Sagan Tosu are perfect. I feel as if he's wasted on Petrović, I have no clue how that guy is even still manager. He only has two goals this season when he had 7 in 24 appearances last season. I love Hokkaido Consadole Sapporo as a club but I feel as if they've warranted relegation for a while now. Consistently poor results and performances. I'm hoping Supachock gets a move to another J1 club or at a decent-side in Europe. A lot of Southeast Asian players return to their home domestic leagues or get a move to a second-division European side, rarely getting game-time then having a mediocre career.

Nguyễn Công Phượng scored an absolute beauty of a goal against Yokohama F・Marinos in the derby to put a nail in the coffin for their title hopes, but sadly Yokohama were relegated and now he's playing in the V.League 2 with Truong Tuoi Binh Phuoc FC. It's just such a waste of good talent. I hope a similiar situation doesn't happen to Supachock.

Omiya Ardija is now RB Omiya Ardija and the branding (including the new logo that appears in the video) will be used starting from January 2025.
