New Desmond Jones Album! “Squids”

Bass player here! We just released a studio concept album last week and we’ve been getting a lot of good feedback. The album consists of a trilogy of songs loosely written about squids from outer space and their journey back to the stars. Meant to be listened to as one continuous piece of music, it has been the most ambitious studio album we have recorded so far. If you have time take a listen and let me know what you think! ❤️

Jam Band Anthropology

Hello everyone I'm doing a project looking at the anthropology around jam bands for one of my classes. I have put some questions I have been using throughout my research below. If you have any insights you feel are worth sharing on any of the questions or the topic in general it would be greatly appreciated. They're prety basic but anything helps for my research. Also feel free to just drop a story or if you have experienced playing and how you see that playing out. Thanks!

  • Why do you think people are driven to see jam bands and what keeps them coming back?
  • How does interaction with the music affect the experience? (feelings, dancing, etc)
  • How does the lot/shakedown play a role in the overall experience and other show adjacent things?
  • Is there a particular story you'd be willing to tell that you feel describes the experience and scene well?
  • Speak on wooks/people touring with the and how they play a role the experience.
  • What involvement do drugs have within these scenes and how do you see that playing out especially with experience of the music?
  • Connection has come up a bunch how would you say jam bands influence connection to the music and how does community/human connection play into that?

Desperate for help: Fellow musicians, take 5 mins to save my MSc music dissertation!

Hey fellow musicians, please help me out! 🙏

I’m a singer-songwriter from the UK, and I’m reaching out because I really, really need your help. I’m working on my MSc dissertation titled “Investigating the Impact of Social Media Platforms on Musician Reach, User-Generated Content, and Engagement: A Comparative Analysis of TikTok and Instagram.” (Yep, it’s a long one, but it’s important!)

I’ve created a short Google form, and it would mean the absolute world to me if you could take just 5 minutes to fill it out. For your convenience, I’ve included both a direct link and a QR code—use whichever works best for you!

As musicians, we all know how much social media matters for our reach and engagement. This research could actually help us all navigate platforms like TikTok and Instagram better, and I’m hoping to provide insights that will make our social media strategies more effective.

So please, if you’re a musician reading this, I’m begging you—don’t scroll past! I really need your help to make this happen. This is the most critical part of my research, and it could make a big difference for musicians like us.

Here’s the link: https://forms.gle/8GL7nsEvuQM3B12d7
And here’s the QR code:
Thank you so, so much in advance. I can’t express how grateful I’ll be if you take a few minutes to help me out. ❤️🎶

Band Collaborations

The recent Eggy/Dogs in a Pile shows have got me thinking about how there’s not as many jam band team ups as there used to be.

As a younger jam fan I look back and see quite a few sets between Umphreys/Biscuits/Moe where the bands swap out seamlessly one member at a time or have a lot of sit ins throughout the show. It’s not something I’ve ever seen or really heard of happening with the newer generations of bands.

Along the same lines I always hear stories of these massive sets that just didn’t end and bands playing for hours at a time but it’s not something I hear about happening now.

Just curious about people’s opinions on this. Maybe these things are still happening and I’m just not hearing about it.

I love Tipper but this setlist looks ridiculous and these song names are outta control 😂 and people think jam band song names and setlists sound silly..

To preface: I love Tipper and have seen him probably a dozen or more times, but don't really know any of the song names. Just saw this setlist from his show in Denver last night and it's literally like if you asked AI to write a parody local jamtronica band setlist

Also, labeling songs or the status quo of fans calling them IDs just has really always annoyed me, end rant.

My Jamband Experience

Hi everyone! I am a huge jamband fan and I am 13 years old. I’ve been inspired by another post to share my experience. It started in 2019 when my dad brought me to see TAB (he is a huge phish and jamband and is responsible for my interest). I was blown away. I discovered phish early as a kid, and then later, discovered other bands like JRAD, Goose, Bisco, and Spafford. I have seen 21 shows so far, and I am looking for a lifetime full of more. I have been so grateful for everything and everyone along my journey. Give me some band recommendations and AMA.
