I'm about 4 hours into Jak 2. I'm pretty sure I never beat this as a kid. It's hard. Has anyone made a mod to make the checkpoints more forgiving?
I’ve been replaying Jak and Dexter for the PS3 and while the game looked great and played great I really missed being able to set my console on rest mode and I find the PS5 controller to be more comfortable. So I’m thinking about playing Jak 2 and 3 on PS5 instead of the PS3, would that be worth it or is the PS3 versions really that much better than the PS4 versions?
I wouldn't say it's bad, but if you all compared it to the other Jak games then definitely it sucks. It's a good game on it's own, and it my headcanon let's just say it's either a non-canon storyline or an alternative one.
Remember the build up on Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance? People used to hate it, but now they view it as a masterpiece. Even the Metal Gear fandom has admitted that they treated MGRR so harshly that they wanted a sequel of it, even if it's not canon in the original series.
Perhaps we could just view TLF that way then it's fine. Although, Dark Daxter was something I did not like. 😑
*JACK and Daxter
For some reason a lot of people started to post pictures of Jak and Daxter Japanese version, even if the game is not made in Japan or has something related to Japan.
But I agree, the cover of the Jap ver. is really good!
'Cause I'm in Japan I had this copies of Jak & Daxter + Demo version for long time, I had to post it.
If you are interested I can show you what's inside the demo package.
I thought I had Jak 2 Japanese version too, I'll search and post the picture when I'll found it, the Japanese cover of Jak 2 is amazing.
Fun fact: For some reason Jak 3 and Jak X don't have a Japanese version.
I'm playing it right now from PS Plus and the platinum looks pretty easy. It only requires you to get 500 orbs of the 1001 total, which can be acquired pretty passively without sweeping every inch of every level. But I'm wondering if it would be worth it for me to aim for all the orbs anyway by replaying some levels later, but I can't find any info online, even in the J&D wiki, about what getting all the orbs in Daxter does, if anything. Even if it were something as minimal as the green piece of clothing for getting all the orbs in Jak 3, I need to know and decide whether it's worth it
So I'm interchanging between Jak X and The Lost Frontier (Mostly to give myself a mental break from repetition) but more on focusing on The Lost Frontier I...kinda like it? Don't get me wrong the main gameplay feels stiff as hell but there are some concepts that I do like like the Dark Daxter Gameplay, the concept of it being Daxter himself though...not really, I like the ship mechanic a lot but it feels a bit stiff and it feels like you have to be right up the enemy's ass just to get your shots in (Though that might just be a skill issue on my end) and the main gameplay it's...fine...the stiffest part of this game by far but it works...I suppose, I like the upgrade system but I just feel like these concepts could have been changed into something better or improved upon, I know it was on the psp but surely it could have been better right?
I’m playing the OpenGoal version on Steam Deck, and I’ve noticed that if I double tap A too quickly, it won’t register the second input. Is this just the way it always was? I’m pretty sure it isn’t an issue with my Steam Deck, because I don’t experience the same issue in anything else. Maybe there was just more input lag on the PS2 or something.
a few days ago i posted that i was working on a theory to explain the "time" travel in jak and daxter. i've seen vtnvivi try to explain it as the predestination paradox - i agree in the sense that it's all pre written- but my theory looks at it through a superdeterministic lense vs deterministic, and doesn't see it as time travel necessarily, or at least not in the same sense people think of when they think of it. my theory uses pieces of theories such as time dilation and relativity of simultaneity, special relativity, the inflationary multiverse, the observer effect, and the concept that "time" in a tangible and linear sense, cannot exists without the observer to perceive it. i reference the book space time and beyond for how i explain the rift gate as instead of actual time travel- it is a worm hole allowing the observer to move across timelines. my theory so far is using jak/kid as the observer. as time cannot appear to exist without the observer, it's fair to say that every observer is in their own "timeline" in an entangled and superdetermined reality. i don't want to post my whole theory as i do plan on doing a video on it, and im very proud of it so far and want to get to explain it coherently in a video for the fandom, but to summarize, i believe the kid was the original observer when timelines are stacked on top of each other (depending on when the observer became real, timelines can appear to be future , past, or at the same "time". say the kid starts in h1, then uses the rift gate as predetermined, and ends up in TLP 1. when kid goes through the worm hole/ rift gate, the concept of the observer along with time dilation and relativity of simultaneity, is actually from a non observer but non 4d standpoint, taking place after the events in h1. when jak 1 reenters the rift gate, kid 2 is already born prior to jak 1 going through the worm hole, when jak 1 makes it to h2, he is connected to k2 through quantum entanglement are there are now 2 observers somehow in the same timeline. after k2 is sent through another wormhole to from h2 to tlp 2, the quantum state as theorized by penrose collapses, leaving j1 to continue to the events of jak 3 as the observer and no longer entangled, and k 2 will now be jak 2 in tpl 2. this cycle goes on and on, with every variation of H except h1 creating brief quantum entanglement as the observer, and the subsequent superimposed quantum state collapses, changing the super position and leaving 1 observer. one iteration of jak every other timeline jump will continue - but due to neither observer staying in any tpl timeline, it isn't tangible or relevant to subjective reality anymore. obviously this isn't explain as clearly as possible, and im not going to mention the lore implications i've came to until im fully finished, but i know a decent amount of people were interested in the rough draft. i still am not ready to post the math and drawings to explain it. but would love to hear opinions please!! ultimately i want to do another with samos as the observer since we also get to see "2" of him.
now my second question is if anyone knows of any good photo editing app that i can use to design a tattoo out of a line from samoss first monologue in tpl translated into modern precursor latin? the quote im translating is "it begins with but a small act of disobedience". i have a chart of the precursor alohabet but i am Not an artist and am trying to test different formatting for the words. im thinking that my left back shoulder blade would be good narratively speaking as that monologue wasn't the "beginning", it was a result of the "end". and since we usually read or see time from left to right- i feel like putting it on the left shows it as less open ended? maybe that's over thought but that's why im asking for others thoughts. picture attached is where im thinking i want it. do we think that that would look good there and also metaphorically captures the odd chain of events that set off the adventure while also being the summary of their adventure? there were a few other quotes i considered from that opening monologue, mainly "i have asks the plants but they do not remember. i have asked the rocks but the rocks do not recall. even the rocks do not recall" or "the answers begin not with research or sensible thinking"
i'm open to all questions and opinions, id actually love to hear opinions on both the rough draft of my theory and am open to changing which quote i use and the placement of it if anyone has a more interesting abstract metaphor.
i also want to say thank you so much to all who were interested in even just the few few words of my theory i explained in a prior post, you guys encouraged me to further develop it and research more to actually make a video covering it <3 thank u all for your support!!
I have ideas for a Jak series remake using open goal I’d want to implement myself but wanted to test the waters.
A few ideas I had.
-the story is largely intact, though I want to add different twists and unexpected events, so seasoned players can come to the game not knowing what to expect. A few changes in the story that may be possible:
introduce new characters, introduce some characters early (maybe Damas could make an appearance in Jak 2), maybe kill off a character, develop lore for existing/new characters
add new missions and cut scenes
add different endings: good/bad/neutral endings
the story might not be exactly linear. Jak may travel back and forth in time towards the end, so he has a final quest of answering the question of who is Marr
—this is what I could expect to have the most amount of backlash. A lot of people across different series hate when their favorite story is butchered. I think if you remake this in the right manner, you can please a lot of people.
-integrate/refine deleted content: Yosemite, Jak 2 wastelands
—I think this might be the most exciting thing for people interested in such an indie development
-refine the map to add continuity between the three main games.
—I think it might be cool to add areas of the first game into the second and third games. Maybe redraw the entire map of Haven City to integrate different parts of the city into different hubs in Jak and Daxter.
—this might be the hardest aspect to develop as a lot of work would have to be done for the map to make sense, but also give the different J&D hubs a futuristic look in Jak 2 & 3. Likewise, if done poorly, this might be an aspect that is not well received.
-new mechanics.
—Give Daxter a gun! This would be kind of sweet, where you can control Jak and Daxter in such a way that they can fire weapons simultaneously. Maybe have some Daxter exclusive shooting missions
—make the speeders more maneuverable/controllable, and have the ability to fly higher
—upgrade some of the underpowered weapons. Does anyone actually use the shotgun after they get the blaster? An increase in range, speed and damage but decrease in spread could make it more viable without making it over powered compared to other weapons
—shooting on jet board, and maybe give the jet board a long sprint function
What do you think?
One of the most fascinating aspects of the franchise, in my opinion, has always been the drastic tone shift from the first game to the second. As a pre-adolescent, I struggled to wrap my head around the idea that innocence could be lost, even in a well-established franchise. Of course, at the time, I didn't have the words for it. Instead, I just thought, 'gun go boom' and 'Jak said a bad word!'
Now, two decades later, I find myself reflecting on this shift every time I see a post about the game. The Mars and time travel theories are interesting, the discussions about a new game are fine, and fan comics are fun to read. But what I really want to know is: what happened to Jak over those two years? We got Daxter’s perspective and what he had to do to survive the dystopian future he landed in, but Jak’s experience was boiled down to torture and dark eco injections. It was so intense that he even started talking.
Jak 2 will always be my favorite—not because it's inherently better than the first, second, or third games (I never played X, and I'd rather not think about 4). Each game brings its own dynamic, adding to the story with clear passion and ambition to deliver for the fans. But Jak 2, with that tonal shift, went beyond just gameplay; it resonated with me in a way that nothing else really has since. Maybe The Last of Us Part II came close, but for all the wrong reasons.
With that in mind—and given the theme of genre-switching and technological advances—could we get a game centered around a prison break doomed to fail?
Is there no market for it? Does Naughty Dog really not care anymore? Did Daxter attend to many Diddy parties and it's a liability to get him back in the studio? Is my idea stupid? Anyways, hopefully someone either animates it or draws it up one day.
hey guys. so jak and daxter was my first special interest by time i was 4ish and ive been very fixated on it ever since. recently while hyperfixated on metaphysics (also a long time interest just not as intense) i came up with a great theory for how the paradoxical seeming time travel can make total sense. i've never made a video on any game or anything for that matter, but it's so well written and researched i kind of want to make a youtube? im just not sure if the fanbase cases abt theories like this or what platform it would be best on. would anyone find this interesting?
Edit: thank u guys so much for all the kind replies!! i'll start scripting the best way to explain and draw my theory and update everyone when i post it :)
Two teenagers disobey orders and go to an island where they hear about some evil plots and schemes from two evil people about doing evil things. But one of them accidentally gets turned into a ferret weasel otter thing, which gives him god-like powers beyond all mortal understanding, except he doesn't even realize he has them because he's too busy staring at breasts and flirting with every woman under the sun. So they run around completely tasks and collect jumbo cadbury eggs for a Mage and his daughter to stop the evil plans, plots, and schemes of the evil people who do their evil things.
Hi everyone! I’m planning to tuft a rug inspired by Jak and Daxter, but I'm a bit torn on the design. What characters, scenes, or elements from the series do you think would look best as a tufted rug? Any tips or design ideas would be super appreciated!
I started playing Jak 3 on my PS5 and immediately noticed some weirdness with the textures, most glaringly that Daxter has a lot of little lines around his mouth that look like wrinkles/scars. Is this a known thing for the PS4 version of the game?
I KNOW his cutscene model is smooth as hell with no wrinkles around the face on the PS2, so it's very weird seeing them come and go here.
