Cummer Museum Bag Storage

Does the museum have a place to store a carryon sized suitcase? We’ll be visiting on our way to the airport and was hoping to stow our bags somewhere during the visit.

Where/How to meet other DINKs?

Not looking to swing or anything like that lol. Just want to have friends in their 30s and 40s who don't have kids so we can do kidless stuff.

Renter’s Insurance

I noticed the larger companies redirect me to lesser known companies that I don’t know anything about when I put in my zip code.

Who do you all have for renters insurance?

High ground or otherwise good hotel to wait out hurricane

While Milton is forecasted to go straight for Orlando I am thinking about waiting it out higher up north.

What are the good areas and hotels located on higher ground which are less susceptible to flooding in the city?

Starting Salary for an Entry Level Software Engineer in Jax?

Hello everyone,

The title says it all. I'm going through an interview process with a small software company, and I feel pretty good about it so far. Hypothetically, if they do give a job offer, I want to know what's a reasonable range to work with. Yes, I know my worth to not settle and even more, since this would be potentially be my first job in software development, I understand that I don't have much leverage to work with either.

With what I've researched on Reddit so far, Jax pays notably less than Orlando and Tampa and is a smaller job market for developers. Other websites like Salary.com, ZipRecruiter, Glassdoor, and Indeed are giving very wide ranges for the role of "Software Developer" without much insight on how many years of experience. So I'm not sure.

So my question still stands -

What's a starting salary look like for a software developer, specifically in Jax?

Can anyone help me network?

Hi all, I was recently laid off and have been struggling finding adequate employment in the area. My background is in healthcare/laboratories/anything that pays $25 an hour. I've been in leadership roles as well.

I'm currently very interested in breaking into B2B sales as well and I have a lot of pet product sales experience from my college days.

If you have any connections or tips I would be forever grateful! It has been a rough few months.

Reassurance about my move

Hi! I (f25) just moved here last week from a New England state. I moved down because I got out of a financially and verbally domestic abuse relationship and I had a family friend who was willing to let me move in with them. I work full time at a local non profit and drive my own vehicle. I like the city thus far and I'm eager to meet more people. But I can't help but feel a small sense of regret. I can't describe where this feeling stems from. So I figured the sub can help me out. Any word of advice will be appreciated just be kind with your wording

Sports bars?

I'm from Minnesota and would love to find somewhere that's going to have the disgustingly early 9:30 Vikings vs Jets game on tomorrow. Anywhere going to have that?

Has anyone been ticketed for parking in Neptune Beach?

It’s pretty expensive to park with the app in Neptune Beach, especially if you’re out there at the shops regularly. There have been three or four times now that either my phone has been dead or I’ve been distracted and just forgot to pay. Have never come back to a ticket in the windshield or gotten anything in the mail. Curious if I’ve just gotten lucky or if it’s rarely enforced. Trying to do the mental risk/reward math on whether it makes more sense to pay for parking every single time, or whether it makes more sense to pay the occasional ticket.

Cool Moose Cafe Appreciation Post

I just wanted to shout out Cool Moose Cafe in Riverside (King st & Park). Awesome breakfast / brunch spot, great vibes, and 100% local. My wife and I have been going for years. The owner knows us and greats us with a smile when we walk in. They make a point of paying their employees a living wage, and while I can’t speak to how much they pay, I have always noticed the low turnover of staff, the very positive vibes of everyone working there, and the fact that they aren’t staffed with as small a crew as possible. To me that speaks volumes about how the staff is treated.

Plus the food is great. All the muffins are amazing (have them split and toasted on the griddle, so good), my wife is a fan of the various eggs Benedict, and when they have the steak omelette special it is my go to.

If it’s busy on a weekend it’s worth the wait! And if it’s late enough in the morning browse some of the local shops on King and Park while you wait for a table, it’s a great way to start a Saturday or Sunday!

Trading Card Shops in Jax (Pokemon)

Hey all! I just moved back to Jax after 16 years away, and I’m looking for a card shop that sells Japanese Pokemon cards - specifically the new 151 set. I’ve already called a few places like Coliseum of Comics and Dan’s and have had no luck yet finding anyone who stocks them in their Japanese versions.

Are there any anime / imported Japanese goods stores here I might try? Or card shops I’ve overlooked in my search?

Ty for any suggestions!

What's up with the UPS Store by Regency Mall?

Did they close down or something? One of the doors is boarded up and I can't tell if they're even still in business. I talked to some guy who told me it was open at 9, but then said 10. I don't know what's going on.

Good cheap alignment places?

Hi everyone! I just bought new tires a few weeks ago and they told me I needed an alignment. What are some good places to go for that without breaking the bank? I don’t what to mess up my new tires by just not getting one. Also if there are ones with fast service, that would be a bonus. Thank you in advance!

Road construction

Is it just me or are they doing road construction on a lot of state highways right now but they're not finishing any projects before they move on to the next. Lem Turner or State road 115 between Jacksonville and Callahan has been resurfaced for 9 months now but they never resurfaced the shoulders leaving a lip that catches water on the main travel path. Yet all the equipment is gone and they've moved on to other state highways. Now they've left Normandy or State road 228 in a similar fashion.
