What's with hotel rates?

It's already October. Why the hell are hotel rates still sky-high?

Road construction in town...whos had enough of it...

Its began last Monday causing delays. I remember someone said it took them 2 hours to get 1 mile. WTF.
Why cant DOT do it at night, they had all summer when the weather was warm enough. But no they had to wait until now to do it during the daytime. Causing people to be late for work. UHHHGGGH

Coming to Jackson for work

I’ll be there for a week later this month. Anything I need to know? I’m going to rent a car, won’t have much free time as I’ll be working 7am-5pm. I’m staying on the western in of Jackson. Good places to eat? Will I see Bears? I want to be a courteous visitor and not be in anyone’s way lol.

How much should I budget for food in Jackson, Wyoming

Hi everyone, I'll be living and working in Jackson, Wyoming, for a while, and I'm trying to estimate how much I might spend on food weekly or monthly. I work at Snow King Mountain and get a 30% discount on meals there, but I'd also like to know what I should expect to spend if I cook at home or eat out occasionally.

How much do you typically spend on groceries if you cook most meals? And what should I budget if I plan to eat out at budget-friendly or mid-range places a few times a week? Any tips on affordable grocery stores or markets would also be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Off Road / Mountain Biking for complete beginner?

I'm trying to find somewhere to bike that isn't necessarily a paved path/road, but is still good for a complete beginner at mountain biking. I tried Wally World and it was a little tough. Was thinking maybe around cache creek although it looks like those trails are pretty short (under 2mi). Even a scenic dirt road to get off the paved areas would potentially be nice. I'm able to use a nice electric mountain bike.

This would be for this week, so sadly looks like the bike parks are closed, so not able to use those to practice.

Days between question

So I see that all NP amenities and whatnot close oct 31st but I read somewhere and can’t find it again to reference that the roads don’t close until the first Monday in November. So will we be able to drive through Yellowstone and self tour for the first and second of November seeing as the first Monday this year is the 3rd? Obviously we will provision ourselves appropriately and not expect to find any food or gas in the park itself.

Skiing

Hey guys I’m going skiing in February here and am curious how many days I should get my pass for. I’m there for two weeks but have never skied before. Do you think a pass for 7 out of 10 days is enough or is there little else todo in the area and should I book for longer??

Tourism help

Hi folks I hope to take my wife and 5 year old daughter to Teton National Park as I retire from the military. I skied there when I was 16 and it by far was the best scenery I’ve ever seen. It will be a fly in to Jackson in May next year and then maybe a drive to Galcier National Park. What resorts/lodges/kid friendly activities are there so the whole family is happy? Thanks

Owen Spalding still frozen?

I saw the upper saddle from cascade canyon last week and it looked like a sheet of ice. I'm wondering if anyone knows if this warm weather has done anything to clear up the route

Worth it for a solo trip?

I’ll be in the US for work in December wanted to do something cool/not a city after. I was looking at Jackson Hole for a few days. I want to do sledding with dogs and maybe snow mobile tour. I won’t be renting a car. Is it a bad idea to go or does anyone have any suggestions on where would be good in that area in December? Appreciate any help!

Travel Tips

Hello - my family and I are planning a trip to Jackson Hole around Thanksgiving. My Dad is fighting ALS and it’s the top of his bucket list. I am hoping I can get some pointers… where to stay(would love to let he and mom have a balcony view of the mountains), where to eat, must sees, etc… We plan to be in town Friday thru Monday. Any info is greatly appreciated!

Off Season Activities

Our family will be visiting GTNP October 13-19. We have three small kids so we won’t be doing any intense hiking, just enjoying beautiful scenery and doing the more popular family friendly hikes. We plan to do one long full day in Yellowstone, weather permitting.

With winter activities not yet open and summer activities closed, what are some other non-hiking activities we can throw into the mix? For example: my kids are too young for horseback riding (7,5,3) even if it was running however, are there stables or a dude ranch that are open to visitors coming in and just checking things out.

I guess just asking what are some of the more off-season activities we can enjoy that we might not know about since most of what is talked about (understandably) are the in-season highlights? Thanks!!

Winter stargazing tour- mid January

Hello! We are visiting in mid January and I was exploring booking a stargazing tour, specifically through Wyoming Stargazing. Prices are a bit steep which is fine, but I was wondering if anyone has experienced this in the winter and if a tour is worth it, or if we can make do on a clear night on our own? Open to suggestions on any other fun winged excursions as well!

What happened to Coelette?

A friend of mine is going to Jackson next week and I googled to send her Coelette’s site and recommend going there. Saw that it was “permanently closed?” What happened? Did the owners need to refocus on Persephone? They really did a beauty of a job decorating inside, especially that front bar area!

Trail map trade

Looking to trade a full sized (4’x10’ish) Targhee trail map for a JHMR one. Anyone have one and would be willing? Also have a Copper mountain one too that I’d be willing to trade.

Living in Moran?

Locals - I’m considering buying a house in Moran…thoughts on how much of an annoyance it would be living that far from town? Ideally I would like to be just slightly out of town (like by airport) but nothing is suitable so far.

Hotel Yellowstone

Do not stay at this hotel. The “private” resort is maybe the worst thing that has to happened to this valley (Ik there’s prob worse). I’ve never been treated like dog trash when just trying to get some information from them. If you looking to stay in the valley, please stay somewhere else.

Random Request...Any local Falconers?

This might be a long shot, but I'm a photographer and I'm shooting an elopement in Jackson in late October. The groom mentioned in passing how cool it would be to see an eagle on their wedding day. My partner (also a photographer) joked "oh yea maybe it could bring the rings to the ceremony". Now I'm not saying I'm looking for an eagle to deliver rings during a wedding ceremony. However, I am wondering if there are any falconers in the area who would be interested in coming by post ceremony for some photos with their falcons/hawks. Any ideas?! TIA!

Recommendations for frames (posters)?

Anybody have any recommendations for a framing shop I can get some posters framed at? They aren’t fine art pieces, just band posters so hoping for something reasonably priced ideally in Jackson so I don’t need to make two trips to Idaho falls. Thanks

East coast skier looking for advice

I'm a lifelong East Coast skier who recently booked a trip to Jackson Hole. I have never skied outside of New York State. I would consider myself an expert (I used to race, 450000 vertical and 50 days over a season) but I have never skied off trail. Any advice for skiing Jackson Hole? I would like to do some off-trail skiing but I'm in need of advice

10th Anniversary Restaurants - 3 days in Jackson, 3 near Signal Mountain

Hi Everyone,

My wife and I are visiting Jackson at the end of September. We've got 3 days in downtown Jackson, and will be spending 3 days near the Signal Mountain area.

We're looking for some special / amazing restaurants given this is our 10th anniversary trip. Can anyone recommend some great places for us?

Thank you!
