i recently watched 'An Incurable Case of Love' and very obv i am obsessed with THE ml!!! the kind of aggressive love and healthy jealousy shown was awesome. I really need suggestions for dramas where the ml gets obsessed with the fl and all those elements are seen !!!
Title : Tengu' Kitchen/ Tengu no daidokoro
I remember watching a show that first came out in 2019 or later. I think it was 2020, 2021 or 2022. It had three female protagonist it followed. One was named yuki and had a snowflake charm on her phone. In the first episode, yuki meets her friend’s sugar daddy. The sugar daddy says he wants to pick something out for the friend’s birthday and asks yuki to help. But instead of doing that, he really just wanted to get her alone to proposition her. Another plot point of the first or early episodes, is that there is another character we follow who is a woman who is a little older and is insecure about her age. She has been getting plastic surgery and lying to her boyfriend about her age. In this episode her boyfriend is excited for her to meet his friends and his friend’s partner. The women is very rude to the friend’s wife because she believes the wife is overweight and unattractive. After the dinner the woman tells her boyfriend she does not know why his friend would date someone who doesn’t take care of themselves and he freaks out at her saying she is superficial.
There also may or may not have been a plot about yuki going to see possibly a madame or someone like that and being an escort. I can’t remember .
Anyone know the name of this j drama??
I’ve watched this series and I loved the pacing of their relationship. I was wondering if there’s a similar series that doesnt focus on the romance itself but like slow burn type of trope? Kinda hard to explain lmao but like I wanted something that makes me giddy enough but it doesnt focus on the romance.
I just found out that ChatGPT is humble enough to receive correction :)
Hi! I am currently watching the Werewolf Game movie series, so I was wondering if there are any movies similar to this type of movie. Tsuchiya is so good as a protagonist lol. I know it is pretty random but love her sm. I already watched As The Gods Will, Signal 100, and Battle Royale. I would definitely be happy if you drop some suggestions!
I am fairly new to Jdramas and I don’t know where to start!!! I just started the Japanese remake of the K drama nevertheless and I’m really enjoying it. I mostly enjoy romance dramas but don’t mind some suspense/ crime/ thriller. I also really enjoyed Alice in Borderland.
I would like some recommendations for romance J dramas! I prefer some that are fairly new( I cant get past the old school film style). What are your all time/ top 5 romance/romcom/ melo Jdrama!?!
PS: I like cringey….
can you suggest something that feels like Nevertheless (with all the pining and tension and i can fix him kinda thing aaaaaaa!!!) but like, it has a happy ending? The feel-good, at the edge of your seat, cliche and predictable ones that we just might need in this stressful life? 🫠🪷✨
Does anyone know where to watch the doctor X final movie outside of japan?? I've been dying to watch it hopefully not getting emotional but i cant seem to find any link or any sort of platforms that I can watch it on.
I am from the US, can't find this show for streaming anywhere. Does anyone know how to access this show? Any help would be appreciated thank you!
My rule is that they must be on NETFLIX, since that's the only place where I can use hungarian subtitles for my mom.
What I'm looking for:
- slice of life shows
- love stories
- coming of age shows
- generally heartwarming, light-toned pieces
- happy ending is important
What I extremely loved and check out most of the "rules" is The Makanai: Cooking for the Maiko House.
So I finished Eye Love You last Friday night, and I just had to share how wonderful this romance drama was to me. Here's a brief plot summary I found online:
After an accident, Motomiya Yuri can hear other people's inner voices when she looks into their eyes. Due to these telepathic abilities, she often gets hurt in secret. She does not get close to people if not necessary and gave up on falling in love. One day, Yuri meets Yoon Tae Oh, a younger Korean student. When she happens to make eye contact with him, she hears his inner thoughts and voice, but in Korean. Will Tae Oh's bright and straightforward presence melt Yuri's closed heart, who is unable to reveal her true feelings?—MyDramaList
As I'm watching it, I keep thinking about how cute it is, and it reminded me very much of From Me To You. However, the plots are very different, yet the feelings I were getting were the same. But as I'm watching this one, and it starts getting more and more emotional, I realize that the FL actress, Fumi Nikaido, is doing a brilliant job in conveying her emotions - because I'm getting emotional along with her! In my mind, she basically carries the series on her shoulders, with her actions and words and facial expressions.
The ML actor, Chae Jong-hyeop, does a good job, but he is clearly not on the same playing field as Fumi. However, they do make a good on-screen couple and their scenes together are cute and heart-warming. SPOILERS >!The additional scenes they show of them together at the end were especially nice.!<>!The fact that the ML does not allow her to lose her ability at the end was amazing to see. !<The rest of the cast was good, nothing extraordinary, although I did like the side plot of the other romance that was blossoming throughout the show.
Overall score: 10/10, Netflix - two thumbs up
On the other hand, my series prior to this was Why Didn't I Tell You a Million Times - a series I scored as 8/10. The plot is good, the acting is fine (I expected more from Takeru Satoh because of First Love, lol), and the emotional impact is okay.
But a lot of my personal scoring - as I'm starting to see after about 18 series watched so far - how much do I want to go back to rewatching my favorite scenes from my favorite series? And I rewatched two sections of Eye Love You the last two nights - got the emotional impact again, and that validates my score. I rewatched the ending of Why Didn't... the other night, and it also was emotional and was good. But it validated the 8/10 score.
But then I remember that I scored Beyond Goodbye as an 8/10, and I have no inclination of rewatching any part of that series again. It's definitely beautifully made, but there's no lasting impact on me.. So I've dropped my score for that one to a 7/10. Do you think that's fair? I know I'm overthinking this, lol.
Anyways, I'm starting a new series tonight... my choices are the following:
- Jin
- Makanai
- Beautiful Life
Lots of chatter about all these series recently and they all interest me - what should I watch next? Thx!!
Is there anyone who knows where to watch full episodes of Hikaru Kimi E from episode 20 onwards? I only found the first 19 episodes available. I also wouldn’t mind watching it raw.
Even for shows you've already seen. The decision makers look at these stats for the value of show purchases and network deals: how many double thumbs, how many folks watched it on the first week of release, if it was rewatched, which recommendations were viewed and streamed. So it's very important ... VOTE when you watch dorama!
🌟 If you've already watched something, go back and vote for it!
The 2000 jdrama Beautiful Life featuring Kimura Takuya is now available on Netflix. This is a jdrama that I basically had to jump through hoops to find in decent quality. Someone at Netflix is on a MAJOR Kimu Taku binge. I can only hope there is more to come.
On the last night of 1999, 22 year-old Atsushi Horigami suffers heart failure and dies during the year-end countdown. In the next moment, he awakens alive and well in his own room - but the year is 1995, and he is 18 years old again, though with all memories up until the eve of his "death" in 1999 intact. Trapped in a never-ending loop, Atsushi is forced to re-live the same four-year period over and over again until he encounters two others also experiencing the same phenomenon, one of whom is already going insane...
Starring: Tsuyoshi Dômoto, Yukie Nakama, Kumiko Endô
I recently watched this drama and found it to be entertaining. It is similar to 'Groundhog Day' where someone has to repeat a part of their life again and again. The soundtrack is amazing. The mysterious and enchanting music compliments the sci-fi elements of the drama well. Check it out if you like time travel, scifi, 90s dramas.
I'm looking for this old drama called : 青春INGS ゆう子とヘレン
The site Nico Nico Nico uploaded a complete episode but that's all.
I've found blogs with screenshots (http://nikari.fc2web.com/index.htm)
but I still don't see the rest of the episodes (there are 23 in total).
I was planning to rewatch the Korean Sky Castle was when i learned there's a japanese remake. How does the Jdrama compare to the original one?
Is it similar to the OG or are there some changes?
I just saw a youtube series recap of the the show that recapped season's 2 and 3. I don't know japanese. But would like to watch the show. I look online but it only has ads or 30 second clips. I am looking for a english sub/ dub.
OMG i though my eyes were deceiving me. I coudn't finish the K-drama but i though the premise was interesting. That role is perfect for Ryusei he's so hot and a good actor. I wonder when do the next episodes drop?
Hey guys, I am just wondering if any of you all have a good site and/or articles (in japanese or english) about the history of japanese television drama (j-drama)? I know that some television station (*cough* NHK *cough*) have quite an extensive archival site that you can play around with. I am currently quite curious about the socio-cultural state/content of japanese drama following the collapse of the bubble economy. Furthermore, I am also interested in the history of the so-called trendy dramas era of jdrama. Thanks again!
i kinda want to do a nostalgia rewatch. i found someone uploaded them on bilibili but the translation is not good. anyone knows where to watch this old gem? thanks!
Everything about the acting, plot, and chemistry between the main actors is better than expected! Hama Shogo never misses!
Hi! I went through a difficult time of grieving this last year. While I am normally a kdrama fan, jdramas have given me peace and comfort during hard times. I have watched all the usual classics for Japanese romance short TV programs like An Incurable Case of Love and Kakafukaka. I enjoyed Kissing the Ring Finger so so so much and I want similar recommendations like these tv shows I mentioned. Happy TV shows with a good love triangle and an excellent over arching song. Any recommendations are welcome however, I appreciate anything:) Many thanks!
TLDR: Cute, happy, (I'm ok with raunchy), romance TV show recommendations please!
Looking for a dorama and unsure where to find it? This is the place for you...
I recently watched First Love on Netflix and absolutely loved it.
Heard Viki was a good place to watch more JDoramas as Netflix mainly has Kdrams on Australia.
I'm looking for shows similar to First Love.
Any recommendations for shows on Viki would be greatly appreciated!
I have been in a lull recently after watching a run of dramas where characters behaved in ways nobody in real life would. Its fun for a little bit but it gets quickly boring for me. I was looking for something to break me out this slump.
Enter Nagareboshi, a 2010 drama about two strangers who find themselves together out of desperate circumstances. I really enjoyed this drama. I have watched a few contract marriage jdramas but they usually tilted towards being light with comedy and sweet moments thrown in. This one was different, it wasn't melodramatic but felt rooted in reality.
Both leads gave good performances. I truly enjoyed that they didn't just fall for each other immediately. Instead this was a slow burn which made it seem more grounded and real. So many times I've seen the male lead written as passive, indecisive, shy or insecure character which is incredibly boring and uninteresting to me. Not this ML... he is calm and collected, his thoughts measured and his actions puposeful. He doesn't try to impress the FL or act cool. He isn't shy or passive but a little reserved. It was such a refreshing change from some of the recent male characters I've seen.
The FL is also not shy or a pushover. Her situation makes her combative and walled-off in the beginning but she gradually warms up throughout the course of the show. When she does break down, your heart goes out to her.
Both adult actors act their age, nobody acts like a teenager gazing at each other longingly and no unnecessary romantic tropes are employed. They move through the story very realistically and their interactions feel genuine. You want them to be together naturally and by the end you're almost begging for it to happen... and that payoff is just GREAT. Its more emotional and heartwarming than spicy, which I prefer. The fact that they take their time is so much better imo.
The supporting cast is good as well. The only unrealistic character is the FL's brother who sticks out like a sore thumb amongst everybody else, because every other character acts normally and rationally.
Coming from kdrama land, I really appreciate how jdrama characters feel like real people. They don't try to be cool... nobody is trying to force a opinion down the audience's throat about how awesome the guy is or how sexy or smart the woman is (I've literally seen extras saying such lines in kdramas). The characters just be themselves and the audiences can make their own opinions.
I would recommend you give this one a try if you haven't checked it out. If anybody knows dramas with similar qualities (balanced leads, grounded behavior, realistic story), please let me know!
