I'm feeling really overwhelmed with planning this trip to Italy. Due to limited funds and limited time off I can't see everything I want to so I've boiled it down to Florence, Pienza, and Positano (10-12 days). But, everything I've seen online says that to fly directly to Florence is not cheap and that Milan and Rome are cheaper but neither are on my list and would require additional travel time and likely more accommodations to stay at.
What airport would you recommend that wouldn't break the bank and require too much extra travel?
Hello, family of 4 traveling the last two weeks of March. Traveling from the US landing in Florence and flying out of Rome. (2 children - toddler and teen)
Family has not been to Italy before but I have.
Should we limit to Florence and Rome plus a couple day trips or add a 3rd city? (Venice) I was thinking about limiting the days in Rome because of jubilee. (The days we booked has NO jubilee events scheduled)
Suggestions for day trips or alternative 3rd city? I know 9 days is not a lot of travel days.
Seeing the good reviews on google. I decided to go to the Castel Romano Designer Outlet on Christmas Eve.
The only way to get back is using the shuttle bus service. Theres only 2 times (4:30 and 6). Even if you are there 30 minutes in advance, there are no seats guaranteed. They even sat people on the bus floor. We asked for half-fare refund so we can take uber/taxi as we had a flight to catch. But not he did he refuse, he cussed at us/tourist (saying the f word) before proceeding to speed away without any compassion/empathy. Not to mention it was cold and windy while we wait another 1.5 hours because if we miss it, we cant get back.
Edit:
Hello,
Im going to sicily soon and I'd like to rent a car. I was looking at the europcar site and I can see that prices for cars are cheap, but what are those protection plans ? I can see that I have basic included and excesses are 1800€. The car is 160e for 5 days but do I need to pay another 1800e aswell?
here is the ling of the image of that excess : https://imgur.com/a/RnK2nir
Thank you for your help.
Ciao a tutti!
I'm going to visit Italy in February over the course of one week and a half. We will start in Milano and our return will be from Bologna. We have made some plans but we are not sure about them yet, so I would like to hear some recommendations.
We would stay in Milano for 2 days, go to Verona and visit the Lago di Garda (but I don't know for how long we should book accomodation), then to Venice and finally Bologna. We will have around 10 days for everything, and even if I think it's enough, I don't know how many days we should dedicate to each place or if we should visit any other city which is in that route.
Among our interests: museums, sports (I want to visit San Siro), music, great landscapes and nature. We also want to see the culture and try out the best food, trying to avoid places full of tourists as to see what life is actually like. Please share with me anything that follows that follows that line.
Grazie mille!
Hello, my dear, my name is Adam and I have the opportunity to spend New Year's Eve in Milan with three friends. We are from Poland, one person recommended me the Reddit application where I can ask about the best places to spend New Year's Eve. Please give me some tips and have a Merry Christmas!
I accidentally booked the regular fast track ticket instead of the tour for the milan doumo , anyone knows if there's an option to change to the tour ?
Still not sure how many days in each spot but was thinking Day 1-travel
Day 2-3-Rome
Day 4-5 Cinque Terre
Day 6-7-8 Lake Cómo
Day 9-10-11 Dolomites
Day 12-13 Venice
Day 14 fly home
We’re more into the mountain scene truthfully So we want to get the busier Rome stuff done first then move more into the natural scenery and smaller villages towards the end.
Planning a 14-day trip to Italy in late March (flying from the US). It’s our first visit, and we’re thinking of Rome, Florence, Venice, and Bologna. Any must-visit spots or additions in terms of cities/villages or tips?
We’re open to extending the trip to 21 days. Should we spend all that time in Italy or explore another nearby country? If another country, what do you recommend?
Hi I've never been to Italy before and travelling with my boyfriend for a couple weeks and would love if anyone could give us some advice, tips especially around travelling to/from dolomites and between other places, fun activities and how many nights, etc. We are 20 and love an adventure, are excited to go to some busy bustling places and doing it on a cheapish budget considering. We ideally don't want to hire a car also.
19th June : Fly into Naples and then go to Sorrento for 4 nights (thinking Positano, Pompeii, Amalfi, Capri day trips).
Then 2 nights in Rome and 2 nights in Florence (or maybe should we do an extra night in Rome instead of Florence ?).
Then spend 4 nights in Cinque Terre then 4 nights in Lake Como.
Then 4 nights in Dolomites and finish with 2 nights in Venice.
Thanks so much !
Ok weird question. Last year my wife and I made friends with owner of the ski shop we rented skis from. When my wife asked what he does in the off season, he proudly proclaimed he worked at an apple orchard. Being from NY, I worked at an apple orchard, so we talked about that for awhile among other things. We even ran into him at cafe during aperitivo and talked to him for a bit.
We are going back this year and would love to bring him a gift of some sort, but I'm not sure what. I've heard pure maple syrup isn't really a thing in Italy and they love it, so I thought maybe I could bring a thing of NY Maple Syrup, but I'm not sure.
Any other ideas?
I’m going to be traveling through Italy from 3/8-3/21 and my personal preference is to take trains from city to city. What’s a good app to book my tickets ahead of time?
It’s a long shot, but has anyone traveled to and attended to this? We are looking at options in terms of number of days, how quickly hotels book up, etc. Any input is much appreciated! Grazie in advance
We have a plan for 8-10 people to travel together. However, some are flying into Rome at different times throughout the day. Any suggestions for a suitable place for everyone to meet that is reasonably close to Termini? This will be the first trip for 3 of them.
So, basically, a place where we can assemble and leave together.
That's not a HUGE group. But, a place people might not mind waiting for 2-4 hours.
Me and my wife are planning a trip to Europe for the first time next year, wondering if there are some places we must see and eat at and maybe places to avoid? Also is it relatively easy to get to and from positano ? I know about the ferry and you can bus it as well is there any tips to know before going !?
Hello! I am VERY noise sensitive when I sleep. We are headed to Venice, Florence, and Rome in April and I’ve found accommodations in Florence and Rome that seem very quiet but I’m struggling with Venice.
I’ve looked through Rick Steve’s Italy book and booking.com and Trip Advisor. I’ve scoured reviews and have yet to find a hotel I am comfortable booking.
If you’ve stayed somewhere quiet you’ve loved pleaseeee drop it in the comments. Budget is ~$300 a night more or less. Maybe we need to go up in budget for a quiet spot? At this point we are down for that 🤣🤣
I’ll be solo travelling in Venice on Christmas Day, does anyone have any ideas for what I can do to not feel lonely? Are there any volunteering opportunities around, perhaps with the church, like feeding the poor Christmas lunch? Any other suggestions?
Hey all! I am flying into Milan and travelling to Lake Como and then from there to Venice. I've been looking at transportation options and it looks like there's a couple of slow trains we can take from Milan to Como and then a bus if we want to stay on public transport from Como to Bellagio. I'm travelling with my girlfriend to propose, so I'm okay with spending more money on a private car service or whatever is needed, but I'm COMPLETELY overwhelmed with options and so many google results. I've searched here on the sub but I can't seem to find any specific answers to help me here. So here are my questions:
TIA
Hi all! My wife and I are planning our (very late) honeymoon for later this year. We've been thinking a 14 day trip in mid September. Our main priority is to just relax on the coast and in the Tuscan countryside, but we also want to take the chance to see some of the major cities. Our budget is around $8,000.
From the research I have done, I scrounged up this very basic outline of an itinerary.
2 days in Venice to see the canals and explore the city
3 days on the coast, probably Cinque Terre? Though I am of course open to recommendations
2 days in Rome, primarily to see the colosseum, the Basilica, and the Sistine Chapel
3 days in Milan to explore the city and enjoy the culture
And finally 4 days in Tuscany, ideally somewhere where with a nice view of the countryside, but also not too far of a trip to Florence
If there any experienced travellers who would be willing to assist me in fleshing out this itinerary, or can offer tips for how to save money on this kind of trip, I would be endlessly grateful. Thank you!
EDIT: Thanks everyone so much for all the advice! I'm going to discuss with my wife and probably cut the trip way way down. I think a day or two in Venice, then 5 in Sicily and the rest in Tuscany. Thanks again everyone!
I just paid for 10 euro from Terravision bus to take me from Milan station to Malpensa airport. It says the meeting point is Milan Central Station, Pregnana Milanese. I looked up on google map and this place is different from Milan centrale station. I'm so confused!! Please help me. My flight is tomorrow
I'm very confused by this explanation from a restaurant about their Christmas lunch. Are "menù" and "a la carte" not mutually exclusive?
Hi everyone. Couple (27,31) landing in Milan in early april, up for a 5-day trip around the area. The initial idea involves exploring the main spots at the Dolomiti - everything looks amazing. Any suggestions on whether exploring other cities (like Bologne) or going to Como would be a better choice?
Thanks a lot!
I was planning on visiting Italy (Rome, Alpe Di Siusi, and a few other places) next July. I've always wanted a decent Italian suit. I'm not interested in readymade suits so I'm looking for a place that makes tailored suits.
My budget will be around $1,000 - $1,500 per suit, and I'm probably getting two suits. What are some great places in Rome where I could get a suit made within a week or less?
Hi everyone,
Given that free museum day is the first Sunday of every month, how does this work with guided tours? For example, if I want to take advantage of a free museum, can I only do this by not purchasing tickets in advance and simply showing up on the day of?
If I wanted to do a guided tour of an area (currently thinking Castel Sant'Angelo for example), would I need to pay the ticket price + tour price package as I see it online, or would there be an option to purchase just a guided tour?
Thank you kindly!
I'm from Singapore and it will be my first free and easy trip to swiss (11nights) and italy (5nights) next year May. My itinerary is planned out but i have some queries regarding the public transport in Italy.
My route:
Lugano to Milan (1night)
Milan to La Spezia (1night) (Will buy the cinque terre pass)
La Spezia to Pisa (half a day)
Pisa to Rome (3nights)
How do i buy my bus tickets for the above scenario? Can i just tap my credit card on all bus and metro? The country is so big and im getting confused with all the info i read.
Thanks in advance.
Hello! Today I was in Bologna for visiting the city. I took the bus and I put my card on the POS there but there was an error with it and no money was deducted from my account. After 2 minutes the bus ticket controllers went in and they issued me a fine of 75 euros which seems absurd, one of them wanted to give me just a verbal warning but the other was so angry so he gave me the fine. My question is, what can happen to me if I don’t pay it, I am an EU citizen, are there some of you around here in the same situation? Thanks!
Hey everyone,
I would like to ask for a recommendation for a museum/gallery pass which allows me to visit multiple attractions. Can you please recommend me some legit websites to buy tickets / pass?
Thank you
Looking to go late September, I have been looking at San Teodoro, mainly because I like the look of La Cinta beach (beach is important) and it’s close proximity to Olbia airport, but open to suggestions, where are the nicest beaches? Is there anywhere in close proximity to Cagliari airport you’d suggest?
Hi Everyone,
My father is backpacking to Italy in May 2025, Should I book the train tickets from Zurich to Rome and other internal trains now or how early should I book considering that 2025 is a busy year to Italy.
On the other hand Is it better to Fly to rome from Zurich or travel via train?
Hello, do you know of any stores that sell international football shirts in Rome or the surrounding area?
