Does this french Canadian song have any resemblance to Irish folk music?

Hello! Could any of you connaisseurs help me with comfirming this song has resemblance to Irish trad music? It is a very well known and appreciated music piece in Quebec, and I know a great number of Irish people immigrated to the province a long time ago. Could the instrumental bit of the song be directly linked to Irish influences? Thank you!

Here’s the link to the song, the instrumental part starts at around 3:10. https://youtu.be/k2V3NrvThlg?si=D9hHbxQkdrphS8yr

Help pick a party piece (as gaeilge)

At an international karaoke hang out the other night and everyone was singing songs in their own language but me. I mainly know school standards like bean paidín, oró sé do bheath abhaile, etc which are bangers in fairness, but I would love to pull off something a little more refined/pretty? Problem is I don't have much of a voice, and it's mainly a small range in the lower end of things. Any suggestions for me?

How best to prepare for my first Irish session?

Hi everyone,

I've been playing guitar since I was a child but less so the past few years (work commitments etc. getting in the way). I've been tentatively building up to joining a local Irish session night which I;m hoping to do this month. Just wondering how best to prepare?! Which songs should I make sure to learn in advance? Are there any tricks/ tips to make sure I'm up to scratch etc.? Don't want to go along and be a complete amateur!

Cheers.

Tips for a foreigner attending Summer Schools in Ireland

Hey there!
I am a musician and about a year and a half ago I really got into Irish music. I play the whistle, sing, and am trying to learn the Bodhran (I had learned the classic transverse flute for years but i still have issues holding a trad irish flute without instantly cramping because of the weight and the distance between the holes - my hands are tiny).

Anyway, I am considering using my time this summer to visit Ireland attending one of the summer schools in July (maybe the Willie Clancy's or South Sligo SS), hopefully with a friend. But having never been in one of those I am finding it a little overwhelming to plan as I don't know what to expect from the event itself, and I am not finding a lot on Airbnb and other sites.
Is it already too late to find accomodation? Is it advisable to find a room in the Town so that I don't have to drive around and get crazy for parking or is it also possible to drive everyday from the accommodation to the courses? I'd probably have to rent a car since I expect to arrive from Dublin Airport.

Is there anything else I should know about those events, or maybe should pay attention to as a woman in a big event (I like to be optimistic, but I can also imagine a lot of people drinking during the day might be something to expect and not underestimate)? Is it normal to also attend to only part of the classes since some courses are actually more than a week long?
I am on a budget and I am finding it hard to find affordable stays so I am also ready to consider organizing this in 2025 instead, but I'd still like to gather as much info as possible to make a choice.

Thank if you took the time to read and answer, and sorry if this post is a mess!

Martin Hayes and Dennis Cahill

I was lucky enough to see Martin live in Toronto a few years ago. He played a concert with my then fiddle teacher Patrick Ourceau. I fell out of practice, but evey time I watch this, it rekindles a desire to start learning again. Just brilliant, he and Dennis.

Beginner Irish Banjo Questions

I’ve learned the Kerry Polka and The Wind that Shakes the Barley.

I tried leaning the Lilting Banshee, but I found the jig picking to be more challenging.

  1. Is it better to focus on reel picking (down, up, down, up…) before jig picking (down, up, down, down, up)?

  2. What are some easier songs to add to my repertoire ?

Guitarist looking for internet band mates

I am an accompaniment guitarist and am gauging interest for melody players interested in working on a long distance recording project. My style is heavily rhythmic and mostly influenced by Donogh Hennessy and John Doyle. I also have a fiddle and Irish dance background so am fairly well versed in all tune styles.

Don’t have any real end goals in mind for the project, just thought it would be fun to see if other folks were interested.

Thanks for the Delrin Flute suggestions

A few months ago I had posted about suggestions for Delrin flutes and a good amount recommended Damian Thompson out of Sligo. Well, the new Standard flute of his offering just came in after I ordered it in November and, wow, what an improvement! The tone, volume, build quality, are all leaps ahead of the mcneela flute I had purchased last summer. I can definitely see why people were telling me there would be such a difference.

Thanks again to all who helped out.

Safe temperatures for wooden flute?

I got a boxwood flute last summer and have been loving it! Playing outside in the summer and so on. Spring is slowly making its way here and I wonder, what would you suggest is a safe temperature for playing outside? I’m worried about it cracking because of the cold or temperature changes…

On Tuesday I’ll be going to a party in the woods and it’ll be around 6C in the evening, do you think that’s alright or should I stick with the whistle?

Name of the tune here? Is it Irish?

This video popped up on my Instagram suggestions, but the same video on the guy's actual page doesn't have the tune. I couldn't find info on Instagram about the audio used for it.
