On three occasions in the same location I came across a massive crane fly species in old growth in WA state. The wingspan was about 12 inches and the full body was about 10 inches. The head was definitely of a crane fly. I had a witness on two occasions. One other person told me they also had seen them on their own. The first time I saw it I thought it was a bird.
I have only seen them in the early evening (dusk and up to two hours after dark) in March, when it’s still freezing at night. They were attracted to a certain type of lantern. If I changed the lantern they would not come around.
The last time I saw one I knocked it out of the air with my hand and took a very grainy video of it as it flopped around on a camping table. The camera was extremely early digital tech so the quality was poor. I have since thrown the camera away. I thought I would run into one again but my lantern died and I didn’t realize the sightings were related to the lantern until later. I intend to buy a copy of the original lantern and go back in March in the future. That may take some time since I live two states away now.
Has anyone seen one of these? I believe it may be the largest flying insect in the world.

So I'm new to keeping insects as pets. And I want to use pillbugs to help clean up after my mantis. Should I put in a layer of soil or something? Also, if I have pullbugs in my enclosure how often should I clean the tank?
No matter what house I live in, some species always decides to use my bathroom as a cementery. In my last house, bees flew inside through the vents, but I luckily found a lot of them and saved them (fed them water and sugar, then kept them somewhere warm to dry em out), I think there was a hive or something near the vent's entrance outside. But I always found around 10 lying on the bathroom.
And now in my new house, if I leave my bathroom unnatended for 2 days (I use the one downstairs most of the time), I find like hundreds of ants. A literal MATTRESS.
Is this a curse or what the hell is going on? 😭
(Edit: I had a little typing mistake on the title, sorry)
Hi! My roommate and I keep getting these kind of small moths (?) in our cupboard. Anyone know what they are, and more importantly, how to get rid of them? I live in the Netherlands. We already cleaned out the cupboard en threw everything out. Thanks in advance!
Sorry if this is bad, I took a video using a microscope. It's a small bug.
Found clinging to a fence beneath moderate treecover, North Florida.
Appears to be some kind of assassin bug, but what species??
Hello guys! It'd be much appreciated if you helped me identify this little guy. Popped up in my apartment's kitchen in a block of flats in Poland. I've gone through Google image search and it's not conclusive but I'm starting to worry I've got a roach problem.
Its from a photo. :D I redrew caterpillar in a glove and added adult moths to the final picture. What a beautiful insect.
