I am looking for live specimens of a wasp mantidfly. They are native to most of the US but I have never found one myself. I breed and raise mantises and would like to add this wonderful insect to my collection. If anyone has seen them around I would pay to have them shipped to GA and extra for each one of course! I also have a few dried specimens I can trade (several silk moth species in perfect condition, a vietnamese centipede, tons of cicadas and carpenter bees, and more)
Can infant nasal aspirator be used as insect aspirator? I was hoping to collect collembola off the ground opportunistically but I can't purchase any within my country and I do not have the materials to make a DIY aspirator.
I found a dead honey bee that was killed by a robberfly, which liquifies the inside of its victims. The bee is really squishy, so I'm wondering if it would still dry like other insects, if it could be a wet specimen, or if it can't be saved
Im new to bug collect and got my first bug! A cicada, im not familiar on how to persevere one. Please help :)
While collecting cabbage stem flea beetles for a study I picked up this jumbo. Phenotypic plasticity in insects is really something.
I'm doing an art project involving a box covered in clay mushrooms and moss. I want to preserve a few isopods (armadillium vulgare aka rolly poly) to add on top of my box but I'm not sure how to go about doing it. Their bodies are kind of fragile so I'm looking for a way to possibly harden them. I do not have access to resin or anything like that. I have some basic things like rubbing alcohol, modgepodge, Elmer's glue, clear nail polish ect. Are there any basic household item I can use to preserve these bug bodies? (PS I'm not killing the bugs for art, they died naturally)
Hello! I'm currently working on a medical entomology collection and need advice on how to collect mosquitoes during late autumn/early winter. The summer was especially dry here in upstate NY and the early Fall was super rainy, so early collecting was very difficult. Where should I look for larvae/adults now that it's getting a little colder out?
Hi! I am an amateur entomologist from Italy and I'm looking for someone from the south of USA or Mexico. I study Vespidae (paper wasps, yellow jackets and most of all potter and pollen wasps) and I'd be interested in exchanging entomological specimens. I can provide Lepidoptera, Orthoptera, Hymenoptera and some Coleoptera species. Feel free to DM if you are interested! :)
looking to source some specimens but want to guarantee they not wild-caught or harming ecosystems. have found a few suppliers online but not sure which is trustworthy. any recommendations?
I have a nice sized nailed shut case of about a dozen or so butterflies. Recently it fell and most of the glue holding the butterflies in place came loose but none of the glass broke. My question is does anyone have a good way of getting it opened up without breaking it.
Hello everyone! Bug Hub is a discord server that is focused around the topic of invertebrates. Specifically around arthropods, but all invert chat is allowed! We are a new server, with around 750 members with an average of 1-2k messages a day. We have a very friendly community and are always there to answer any questions! We also have quite a few users who pin insects, and have a specific specimen collecting channel. Invite: https://discord.gg/bugs
Hey everyone! I’ve recently decided that I want to start collecting insects. I’m wondering what type of stuff I might need to start pinning and collecting insects and the process as a whole. Any advice or guidance you guys could offer?
So my dad just found an Eastern Cicada Killer and I was wondering if it has to be preserved before you display it? I’ve worked with butterflies before so I know the process of spreading their wings. But I already like the shape that the wasp is in so do I just mount it?
Hello there! Have you ever been interested in joining an invertebrate discord server? If yes, then join Bug Hub! We are a new server with active, friendly people. So, I've got zero experience with actually preserving/mounting/displaying anything. But I'm wondering if anybody has tips for doing so with a moth? Found a really neat dead one, I think it's a polyphemus moth, and it's in really good shape and is the largest I've ever seen outside of a moth/butterfly farm and would love to keep it nice and displayed.
Just finding a lot of different things going through google, and was wondering if anybody who has experience has a preferred method or anything.
