Blood Moon Botanica, winter update part 2

Shop is now updated for the winter part two collection. Here is what you'll find in this update...

https://bloodmoonbotanica.com

Ponderosa Pine resin-infused spring water soap

A long drive over the Cascade mountain range, took me to one of my favorite old growth Ponderosa pine forests. There I hand gathered the aromatic pine resin to be infused in oil for soap. Working this resin infused oil into soap was very difficult! But the result was worth it. Added into this soap, is my very popular Ponderosa perfume. This soap is scented with a dry vanilla, deep pine resin, soft spices and a touch of smoky amber. There are two colorways in this soap, and each will picked at random for your order. Transparency around the pricing of this soap, because it is very labor intensive to make. Each bar is $15.

Snowdrift spring water soap

A beautiful creamy white bar, cool and creamy blend of cold milk, cream, fir needles, peppermint, and an accord of frosty air. This is a refreshing and yet comforting scent.

Frankincense infused whipped shea butter

Organic frankincense tears infused in organic shea butter, and whipped up to light fluffy perfection. This is a seasonal item, and limited. I personally love this along the neck and chest. Frankincense tears infusions into oil can support mature skin, boost collagen, and shea butter creates a protective barrier for the dermis.

Whipped cream soaps

I finally found a dreamy whipped soap texture that I love. Firm, fluffy, and non-drying to the skin. Use as a shaving cream, or body wash. These come in winter seasonal blends: Home is a Temple, Snowdrift and Bring in the Light.

Restocks!

  • Firelight whipped shea butter
  • Snowdrift whipped shea butter
  • Simmer Pot incense
  • Snowy Bough incense

Flower Essences are back in the shop!

Botanically Infused Scalp oil is stocked (I've been using this religiously to help grow my hair oil!)

Flower Moon mist, a soothing skin mist is helpful right before your application of Moon Dew, boosting moisture and contains soothing botanicals to support sensitive skin.

There's still very limited stock on many herbal salves in the skincare collection as well.

And always in stock, and available for subscription is Moon Dew and Luminous Glow facial oil.

SHIPPING NOTE!

I want to thank all of you for being very patient with me around slower shipping times. As a single mother, this can be very challenging for me, and I am working hard to streamline for quicker shipping. If you have any questions or need to check in, please email me at hello@bloodmoonbotanica.com please allow a few days for a response.

This week I anticipate that I will be able to ship quicker than the last update! Thank you so much.

Alkemia-Fruits and Greens!

*Alkemia oil sample Beguin* Notes of pear wood, tart apples, black fig, candied saunf mithai, Gorse flowers, heliotrope, and honey.

Wet this is faintly sweet and evokes a bowl of soft, hot fruit cooked in a little too much oil/butter. Almost savory. The spice and a lot more sugar comes through about ten minutes later, making this a more sophisticated recipe–dessert course– but still very much a food smell and pretty heavy. I am craving the “tart” but these apples and pears are well done. The spice is intriguing and not familiar, but still homey. A whiff of florals come through but faint and oddly like a shower gel smell (fleeting) or maybe dried flowers. Rustic, cozy, autumn perfume.

Verdict: I like pie but this is too pie for my skin. Not a big gourmand gal here. But even though I didn't put in my cart this time (love a freebie!) it was on my list. I do really wish the wood was present for me (pear wood). I really like a strong wood note next to some yum fruit. Search continues.

Alkemia oil sample Moss maiden: Notes of Wet Ferns, Fresh Mosses, Lichens, and Disturbed Leaves.

Wet: I distinctly smell grass clippings, spagnum moss, and potting soil. Takes me outside on a Pacific Northwest Saturday, pulling huge wet chunks of hairy moss from a “garden” that really just wants to be a rain forest. This is a scent that is very present in my life. There is enough moss in my tiny yard to fill a king sized mattress. And oh no, it's kind of stressing me out because I have a lot of yard work to do… it won't stop growing on everything… and yeah it's that realistic on application.

Ten minutes in is when a “clean” slightly soapy note starts to take shape above the bouquet of wet greenery, binding the fragrance into a more traditional perfume that still very much evokes “sweet moss” just now less actual yard clippings. Close to skin and the scent faded quite fast on me. Thirty minutes in, starts to slowly morph into a fuzzy green memory. Verdict: If you want to smell like moss-this might be it. Not my style for wear but very interesting.

Alkemia oil sample The Lady's Yes. Notes list fig, magnolia flowers, amber, and white sandalwood. On application this is a blend of soft, sweet dark fruit and faint florals with occasional wafts of a clean (huh lemon?) note that keeps the blend from getting too heavy. Dries down to sweet fuzzy sweater. As it's extremely soft it's hard to assess longevity but if I really stick my nose into the crook of my arm it's still faintly there 2 hrs. in.

Verdict: This Lady's Yes is soft and ambiguous; too cozy for my taste but that vibe may suit others. I also experienced my first sandalwood pickle juice note. From about 1 hour in, occasional wafts of pickle came through and I was actually excited, thinking “I read about this on IMAM!”

Alkemia Cherie oil sample. Notes list white cherries, saffron, vanilla orchid, neroli blossoms, nutmeg, coriander, cedarwood, guaiac wood, and ambergris incense. When wet this is sharp, cold cherry drink (like from a powder) and butter. As the fragrance dried a strong soapiness started coming through which intensified with time. I did not get much spice and even the cherry faded into soap. I sampled this twice after a couple weeks of rest and both times the soap smell was acrid and quickly took over. I ended up scrubbing after an hour both times. Verdict: Something about my skin and brain really doesn't like an ingredient (though all notes here are ones familiar to me) or technique in this fragrance. I want to avoid this in future purchases. What is so soapy? Tips welcome!

Help me find a creamy strawberry perfume or body spray

Hi everyone, I seem to not be able to decide where to order a nice simplistic creamy creamy strawberry perfume. I am wanted something not tangy, and very milky or creamy. I would like it to be very simple without obscure notes or any florals. I love my strawberry kiwi shampoo which smells nothing like kiwi, only like the creamiest strawberry dessert. Thank you 😊

IS The Strange South good?

I came across their shop years ago and never got anything from them despite putting it in my bookmark list. Are they any good? I love their vibe but have been burned before. Are the scents good? Do they last? Are their TAT Accret? If you do like them, what's your favorite scent? Describe it as much as you like.

Intense Single Note Layering

I recently received a sample vial of Hexennacht's Papier d'Armenie and I realized I have zero ideas of what to layer with it to cut the sucker punch of incense. I love it, but those around me would think I took a bath in the resin stash of a metaphysical shop.

I'm fond of sweeter gourmand scents, black tea, coffee, and warm and cozy blends.

Any other single layers or notes that would pair and play well ? I'm out of my element balancing this one. Most of my experience in blending is with EO's I mix for my own home products.

Thanks yall!

Papier d'Armenie Notes: Siam benzoin resinoid, pyrogenized olibanum resinoid, Peru balsam resinoid, tolu balsam resinoid, styrax (sweetgum) resinoid, bushman's candle oleoresin, olibanol, bouleau pyrogene.

It's also an EDP.

Indie Scentuary

This February, I’m embarking on something completely new: a deep-dive scent experience. My plan is to wear each fragrance for seven days straight (at least 8 hours per day) and document my evolving impressions. At the end of the week, I’ll review the scent by comparing my thoughts from Day 1 and Day 7 at key intervals—application, 15 minutes, 1 hour, 3 hours, 5 hours, and 8 hours. I’ll also reflect on how my perception of the fragrance shifts over the week. Consider this my personal twist on a perfume tray!

Here are the perfumes I’ve chosen for this journey:

Amorphous Perfume ✨ Aurora – A luminous blend of black currant, banana, coconut, gardenia, lime, honeysuckle, tuberose, pomegranate, and woody amber. ✨ Nosferatu – A darkly romantic mix of patchouli, deep red roses, aged red wine, dirt, tobacco smoke, and fireplace embers.

Black Phoenix Alchemy Lab ✨ Cat Seen From Behind – A cozy, warm embrace of toasted sandalwood, tonka bean, rice milk, and patchouli. ✨ Carved Wooden Post Office – A nostalgic scent evoking ink-smudged letters, parcels, and holiday cards nestled in a mahogany mailbox cabinet with shiny brass doors, all with a faint whiff of fruitcake.

Let the scent exploration begin!

3 little black hearted tart reviews!!

hi everyone! just got my first ever BHT package today and i immediately busted it open and smelled everything without resting lol. i blind bought the 30 ml of supersilk and a small rollerball of sticky sweet, their dupes for lush's supermilk and sticky dates during the lush+us sale at the beginning of the month. TAT was slightly faster than expected, i think 18 business days or so instead of the projected 25. also i (very last minute) reached out on the website about swapping my bottle of sticky sweet for something lavender based instead (i am stupidly indecisive) and i was delighted to find a rollerball of sleepy-mallow with my order! this was so kind and unexpected especially because at the end of our short conversation i accidentally sent the same message twice and thought neither of them went through 😭, so i was expecting to get just my original order. the response time was QUICK btw like within 10 minutes of reaching out. i assume it was annaliesa? who i was talking to and she was so accommodating and sweet. from my experience and what i've seen of her interactions with others on this sub, i can really tell that she cares for her customers and wants them to have a great experience <3

and here's some short reviews of what i got!!!:

supersilk (Scented with notes of almond, coconut, and oat milks, the heart of this gourmand scent is silky and creamy. Made extra sweet with heavy notes of caramel and tonka bean, and then tempered with light notes of lemongrass and litsea cubeba essential oils) - okay so i suppose it isn't really a blind buy if i already own the original supermilk hair conditioner BUT i was still a little nervous about this. to my nose it smells 95% similar, and i do agree with anyone who said this smells like a better rendition of the original supermilk lol. this smells slightly more "candied" and removes the almost bitter aspect of the original that i assume is from the litsea cubeba.

sticky sweet (Sticky date syrup enhanced with orange juice, is blended with soothing notes of sandalwood and the rich, caramelized aroma of vanilla and benzoin) - i used a tiny bottle of the original sticky dates body wash before and i feel like this is a pretty much perfect dupe. also it is NOT cloyingly sweet to me, thankfully. really does just smell like a sticky toffee pudding, it is delicious and probably one of the only gourmands i've tried that i really like and go back for??

sleepy-mallow (Fluffy marshmallow pillows with notes of vanilla cream and white musk are sprinkled with soft petals of French lilac. Essential oils of soothing chamomile and relaxing lavender are rounded out with woody amyris) - so recently i became obsessed with the idea of a sleep scent and really wanted something lavender-y and calming to wear to bed. i'm not sure if this will be it but it still smells really nice. i don't think anyone would hate it? i mostly get a sort of airy, sweetened lilac and some musk in the background. there's not much lavender on my skin/when it dries but i can smell it in the bottle.

overall i'm super happy and excited about my order and experience with BHT! i sort of feel like i cheated because i got dupes of scents that i already know i enjoy but i'm really happy to know that this house works with my skin chemistry. i definitely need to let everything rest a bit but they already smell so great straight out of the mailbox. if anyone has any recs from this house i'd love to hear them, i really want to try some more of their original blends!!

Piper & Perro Reviews Request!

Hi! I came across Piper & Perro’s “Froth” (Mandarin, Pink Pepper Leaf, Salted Pistachio, Orchid, Taro Bubble Tea, Milk Accord) in my search for milk tea scents, and I’m dying to try it and a few others but they don’t sell samples!

I’m also interested in the following 3 scents, which are limited release and disappearing tomorrow!

Bon - Pink Grapefruit, Saffron, Almond Blossom, Sugared Peony, Milk Accord, Salty Moss

Bask - Sun-soaked Citrus, Strawberry Leaf, Black Pepper, Rich White Florals, Coconut Milk, Shea

Lepus - Bergamot Peel, French Lavender, Black Tea Latte, Vanilla Bean, Soft Musk

I don’t want to blind buy 10ml of all 4, but I’m getting FOMO over their disappearance!

Anyone try any of these?

Fantome dupes?

What are similar scents to popular offerings like Finist the Falcon, Stolas, Ectoplasm, Baba Yaga, Kuidaore, Olwyn, Paimon, etc.?

Finist is a fresh tea rose to my nose, with a similar dna to other pink roses like 69 Roses from Black Hearted Tart and Pacifica Persian Rose (but without the fruity top notes.)

Ectoplasm seems similar to Mythpunk Olfactive's Mossmallow Puff, although they are currently closed as well.

People say that Solstice Scents Flowers Nocturnal and Alkemia Kashish are very similar to Olwyn.

I'm not really a gourmands girlie but I'm sure there are some great matchas out there! Kuidaore smelled mainly of vanilla pastry to me, with the matcha adding a floral almost bubblegummy element borderlining (but not crossing over) into playdough territory

I've missed the drops during the past months (I finally decided to splurge on an EDP after occasionally sampling for years) and am going a little insane, checking their website way too often and searching threads for similar scents on IMAM haha.

Anyone have other dupes that could scratch my itch in the meantime? Knowing a scent isn't the only one of it's kind helps me a lot with the FOMO, maybe other people will find it useful as well :) Niche and mainstream suggestions are also welcome!

same or similar smell to B&B butter cookie truffle

Hello everyone, I wanted to know if their is a body oil or perfume that smells similar to cookie butter truffle from bath and body works. I'd like to make a body wash with the scent and maybe buy a perfume to use for everyday use. I was always a fruity smelling girly, but now I can't get enough of gourmand scents!

What should I get my husband for Valentine’s Day??!

Hiii!!! Without knowing him(and without my disclosing too much information about him), what the heck should I get my husband for Valentine’s Day? I just got him Lollis by Leah and a bunch of soap from Humphrey’s Handmade for his birthday, so probably nothing from those shops(although they are awesome and I recommend). I think he is stocked up on shave soap. For Valentine’s Day, I ordered him a few bags of Poesie’s tea, and was considering some Steeping Dragon but, like… that’s too much tea, hahaha! Maybe some perfume; I think he is running a little low but that seems boring.

I was looking on Etsy for some cool or fancy candy or chocolates, and any other recommendations are welcome! Does anyone know of any awesome indie “and more” shops that deserve some love? I know this is a little last-minute for shipping concerns, but whatcha gonna do? ;)

January Scent Recap

I decided 2025 was the year to become more organized. I created an Excel Workbook to help with this. It's so nice now to have my entire collection cataloged; no more scourching for scent notes.

Well I just completed the list of every scent I wore in the month of January. I am a bit in awe of how many different scents I wore, but I am a Fragrancista!! It was also fun learning which scents I wore more than once.

Omb Leather From House of EM5

Fragrance In Three Words: new leather wallet.

I started Exploring clones now and I actually found a good one!

Starts off with a smooth leather similar to the fresh smell you get when you take a new leather wallet out of a box. I get a slightly spicy, slightly herbal aroma, maybe cardamom and although not listed as a note I get pepper. Has a cloying amber haze that lingers, similar to Rouge Avignon.

This is a sexy clubbing scent at its heart. A beautiful refined leather frag, elegant, that some sweetness may allow for a woman to wear it.

I agree in saying that it is a more airy/thinner version of Tuscan Leather, with the rasperry being substitued by a jasmine note (that results smelling pretty similar to the rasperry). The drydown gives the impression of a subtle smoky note.

It is less aggressive, less in-your-face than TL, and for sure a more elegant version. It has a more suede leather than dark leather feeling. it projects strongly in the first couple of hours, and then stays moderate for another couple of hours.

Doesn't have the staying power of something like TL but very nice in its own right and would make a great choice for those that find TL a little overwhelming.

Valentine’s day perfume favourites?

No real reason. I’m just feeling festive and want to see what is out there.

When I think of my own perfumes for V-day, I think “full dark” by Solstice Scents:

Amber resin, saffron, black rose, black musk, oud, fossilized amber, leather, smoked amber, spice

That saffron and rose make for a nice romantic scent with a side of adventure.

Have you ever disliked a fragrance not before, but after its resting period?

Hi, I just received my first set of Alkemia samples and I know I should let them rest but I'm sampling them immediately out of curiosity for now. I already love ghost fire, but is there a possibility I could end up disliking it after the rest period? Are these perfumes that different afterwards where disliking them after is a big possibility?

Thanks!

Gourmand girls? How do we like their formula?

I’m looking at the bitten palette from gourmand girls but this is my first time hearing of their brand and they seem pretty small and unknown? I wanted to know from anyone who has purchased from them how their formula is.

Totally torn between that or picking up “the lovers” from cosmic brushes

Let's talk hair oils

I would love to hear your hair oil recommendations! Last ones I bought were from RedDeerGrove but they've been on a hiatus since August 2022.

Trying to play catch-up

It’s been a while (almost 3 years!) since I’ve been active in the indie perfume space and now that I’m back I’m finding it a little difficult to catch up with all of the changes. I’m really glad to see that some of my favorite houses are still going strong, but there are also a ton being talked about that I don’t recognize. Can anyone fill me in? What are some new(ish) brands that you’ve enjoyed? Are there any I should check out right away?
