Ha, ummm, this might be controversial.
I got an Andromeda's Curse order in with two 5 ml rollers earlier today. I noticed they looked very small, so I decided to test the volume in a couple of 5 ml bottles I had that were empty.
Turns out they're about 4 ml at the most.
I sent the owner a message and photos about how it seems that her 5 ml rollers are, well, not 5ml... but that message has not been well-recieved, and I feel like she's trying to make me feel like a shit person for calling her out.
Oh well, I guess. 🙄
I just got the most perfect lip balm from a friend of mine (eos) but i can't use it because i already have another fanta lip balm i need to use up that i can't waste. What do i do so i can finish both lip balms and not have them go expired?
Hey guys.. wondering if any of you have tried any fragrance primers? I’m talking like the ones that are sold by fragrance houses. I know all the tips of moisturizer, Vaseline, etc. I’m interested in buying one. If any of you have can you tell me which one and whether or not it was effective? Thank you! Hope everyone is having a good day!
Anyone get anything they really hated lately? Mine are: Winter kitty, for strange women Snow moon magic, sorce (i know this one will upset people)
Hi everyone, Poesie heard our and others' requests for an update about releases (in addition to all their updates about rebranding and repackaging), and has offered us some concrete details and some hints:
I for one am ecstatic that the cardamom collection will be coming back!!

I have a bottle of Alkemia's "Temptation" ("An irresistible temptation. Crème de violet macarons pillowing centers of white chocolate ganash and a kiss of candied Parma violets.") that I've burned through at an alarming rate given that it's discontinued, and I now find myself on a hunt for other violet flourmands I might love just as much.
Preferably ones that lean more elegant or have a creaminess to them, but I'm really open to everything that's violet heavy here! I'd love to hear people's favorites.
I'm looking for something wearable and I've come to like Brokilan, Caravansary, Murkwood, and Oxylus, but I feel like they have similarities so I'm having difficulty choosing. Wondering if someone with a better nose might be able to help me with choosing.
Also wondering if anyone has tried coffee Tabac as a coffee lover? I have tried Poesie's whisper me your bitter things and love that one. Looking to expand my coffee perfumes as well.
Im considering getting carmilla because someone said it has a grape bubblegum vibe, which honestly sounds amazing to me. Im curious if people would agree or disagree with that as its the primary selling point for me.
Featured: Awaken the Kraken, Special Formula X-TREEme, Le Serval, Aurum Incense, Bois Fumée, Tsukimi, Odesa.
Awaken the Kraken Heavy doses of seashell aromatics, ambergris, and oud have been optimized to create a stormy sea, vivid with sea monsters and tempest rains.
Keywords: mineral, not much salt, musk
Whyyyy is this so weak on me I love the scent. It’s not a dark stormy sea in the salty and seaweed-filled way. It gives more the image of being in a small ship cabin room, musk lingers on the bedsheets, with the cool deep ocean outside the window and a storm on the horizon. A strange animalistic note comes out in the end but it’s still more mineral and scale than brine. I’m in love but the projection ;-;. 4/5 (Turns out to last pretty long)
Special Formula X-TREEme A Colorado state of mind: Our infamous “you only better” skin scent with a TREE inside… aka the beautiful local Ponderosa Pine. Perfect for the forest bather in all of us.
Keywords: musk and wood!
I like this because it’s woody and slightly smoky. Simple, wearable, calming. It’s an impossible-to hate scent but I do think the soft gentle sweetness in the original formula x-treme is pretty unbeatable. 4/5.
Le Serval Ripe with unusual African aromatics, Le Serval is a warm, rich, and mildly spiced aldehydic-animalic floral fragrance.
Keywords: weird base smell, honey, a bit of wood, musk, is that booze?
Did not expect to like this scent because I have trouble with DSH’s animalistic notes. But saw the glowing reviews and caved. (I remember liking the idea of Foxy so much but then smelling it and being a bit disappointed.) I do like this! This is mostly warm honey on me with a bit of animalistic musk, smoke, and booze(?). Really sexy but strangely comforting. Can’t see myself wearing it tho. 5/5
Aurum Incense A true, classical incense fragrance created to showcase frankincense and all its myriad facets…Warm woods, gentle florals, and rich resin accents have been added to round out any rough edges
Keywords: incense overload
Wearing this is like showering in incense. Opens with a blast of frankincense and it smells almost chemical-like. Not sweet or citrusy at all. I don’t know if anyone smelled Dryobalanops aromatica before but this fragrance has a sharp minty tang that’s just like it. The transition is exactly like what the description writes: “from peppery to softly milky to ember-like smoky.” 5/5.
Bois Fumée Bois Fumée is that gorgeously classic wood smoke scent with the added warmth of resins and a touch of ambery incense.
Keywords: warm wood, smoke, incense
I don’t know what else to add. Warm resinous start to finish. LOVE. 5/5
Tsukimi A softly wooded, subtly spiced Autumn gourmand scent that glows from within with warming notes of cardamom and sandalwood made luminous by rosewater and a light dusting of fig.
Keywords: fig, spice, a green note that I can’t name
I’m in so much trouble with these samples I love them all. This is spicy fig, a lot less pulpy than Diptyque’s Philosykos with a lot more wood and some subtle green note. The rosewater is in the background but not overpowering. 5/5
Odesa Named for the famous port city: this is the warm and salty scent of sparkling gold flickering on the waters of the Black Sea.
Keywords: fresh water, fresh air, mineral, where’s the scent my skin swallowed it
This one’s tricking my nose. I can’t smell it. Not that there’s no scent, just, it smells like cool fresh air or water? Unlike Kraken where the mineral and musk washes over you, this one just lingers a little and disappears. 2/5?
first things first: guys is it “camo-mil” or “camo-meal” or “camo-mile” pls i’m too scared to say this word out loud
second, i have recently fallen in love w chamomile scents!! my roommate has this yummy dove “lavender chamomile” soap, and i love lavender and realized i must love chamomile too - my lovesick witchery order came in recently, and i picked up Serene Queen which was just so so yummy!!
I wanted to hear any and all chamomile scent recommendations!! it doesn’t have to be lavender with it. i know this question has been asked but just wanted an updated rec list!!
scents i like: florals, vanilla, lactonic notes (but the creamy side, not necessarily milky), rice, almond, honey, strawberries, mint, green notes, “clean/fresh but sweet” scents, soapy notes
not a fan of, but also open to anything tbh: incense, heavy woody scents, anything bitter
I've heard about this perfume but the problem is, that I'm from EU and Cocoa Pink doesn't ship anywhere outside the US. Are there any similar perfumes out there?
I made the mistake of testing a retired NAVA fragrance (2023 Red Santalum) and falling in love. Buttery sandalwood with a medicinal quality from the cedar- please let me know if anything with a similar vibe!
I have a tween who is very influenced by youtube f*boys (sigh, I know . Im trying). Anyways theyve asked for some random mainstream "sexy" cologne but this child is still my baby and there will be no Sauvage wearing in my house.
Any skin scents that are low-sillage, low-projection maybe lightly floral, fresh or aquatic, or green, bright. Nothing resinous and musky. Also nothing too $ dear
Edit: this is so helpful and so kind and their birthday is January as well!
l I’m having a super shitty time dealing with a specific perfume business on Etsy and I NEED to talk about it with someone to get an opinion on what to do and if my anger is validated or if I’m being too emotional and overreacting?
**the situation:
December 2nd - I place an order on Etsy. it’s supposed to be delivered within a week, week and a half-ish.
December 11th - owner prints shipping label
December 16th - I send the owner a message inquiring about shipping and TAT. the owner never responds.
December 17th - I check the business website to double check that I hadn’t missed anything regarding shipping delays, longer TAT, temporary holiday shut down, etc. Nothing. everything is running as usual.
December 18th - I send the owner another Etsy message asking if we can just start the cancellation process. I send the owner an email as well, letting them know that I’ve sent them a message on Etsy.
Today - I still haven’t received a response. I decided to check and make sure they’re okay and there hadn’t been some horrible event. Nah, they’re perfectly fine. their very public Facebook shows them sharing and posting every other hour for the past 2 weeks. reviews on their Etsy shop keep coming in, people saying fast shipping. people who ordered after me.
Am I validated in being upset? I don’t even understand what I did wrong. this was my first ever Etsy purchase. this was my very first INDIE PERFUME purchase. i literally am brand new to all of this. it’s left a horrific taste in my mouth.
i only had $30 that i could spend on myself for a Christmas present this year. i chose GG (only because i found that business on November 30th, but didn’t find this subreddit until a few days after i had ordered). i chose GG because they said it would be delivered way before Christmas. this was the only Christmas present i wanted. i spent my entire $30 budget on this. i’m just sad.
update: i’ve escalated it to Etsy for a refund. I’ll be blacklisting Ghoulish Goods. I won’t buy from them again, and I won’t be recommending them to anyone.
UPDATE
i guess GG heard about this post, because i’ve finally heard back from them. and it’s not good.
i decided 2 days ago that i no longer wanted the perfume; i just wanted a refund so i could shop with a better indie perfume business.
after asking for a refund on 12/18 at 3:07pm, sending an email through their website to GG’s business email to let them know i had messaged them on Etsy, and then finally going through Etsy’s help function (earlier today) and sending a secondary message to GG about PLEASE refunding…
she went ahead and ignored all those messages, and messaged me 2 hours ago that she went ahead and just sent the package out.
i’m upset again, because i was ignored- once again. i don’t want any of GGs perfumes. i wanted a damn REFUND. i wanted to pick a different small indie business to support.
I messaged two different days about wanting a refund instead.
can i do a return-to-sender and still ask Etsy to do a refund?

What are your favorite alkemia flourmonds?
Hey wonderful people!
I recently went to visit a friend and she bought a new soap from Jean&len (idk if you know the brand) and it smells absolutely incredible. I couldn't stop smelling my hands afterwards and it's a simple rosemary & ginger scent. It's androgynous (leaning masculine) and fresh.
Does anyone have any advice for a good rosemary/ginger perfume that is quite unisex?
Thank you so much guys!
There are no bad questions! Ask away!
I was incredibly lucky to be paired with u/Hallieus for the fall exchange this year!! I can’t express how much fun it was getting to know her better, and had a great time talking about nostalgic television, horror movies, and more. Her Sons of the Forest tips in particular were very useful for my own playthrough :)
such a cute card on first opening the box!
Everything packaged into categories in such cute wrapping paper!
She included a Book of Smells guide (hehe Gravity Falls reference) detailing each scent she picked for me and why, as well as those that didn’t make the cut, which provided a very insightful look into her thought process! It was also soaked in coffee/wrinkled to give it an old time look and really makes me feel like I have some powerful scrolls on my hands!
Hallieus was soooo generous with extras as well. I can’t express how impressed I am with her sticker sourcing skills! The lenticular bat potion is one of my faves (can’t stop rotating it), and she captured my aesthetic (horror + cute + whimsical + goblin) sooo well! I love how the extras encapsulated a lot of the media we discussed together, like Over the Garden Wall, Coraline, Gravity Falls, Twin Peaks (the decals on the perfume tin!! wow!!), and more!
The perfumes she picked were also so well chosen! Many things I wanted to try, others that I didn’t know I even needed! Like how did she find TWO melon scents that I hadn’t heard of before for me (the melon monster) ! She showed such thoughtfulness with each choice, and I’m really looking forward to testing these out.
I received the following scents:
I also received:
I’m so thankful to have been able to make a good friend through this process, and really appreciated being able to spend my favorite perfume season being able to discuss perfume together :D I hope the new year treats you well! Thank you so much!
Hi friends, I was going to order Solstice's Estate vanilla and Lavender in EDP samples but they aren't available currently, any idea or post made by the house stating when they'll be back?
Thanks in advance <3
Description is: Warm creamy milk steeped with fragrant chai spices, ominous black tea leaves, worries lulled by comforting cashmeran, red musky fur, and the sting of deception vanishing into a hazy veil of Benedictine incense
Sounds super good, but would love to hear some thoughts or reviews before buying it!
use that imagination! bonus points if you list notes you’d put in each perfume
you can be as serious or as unserious as you want. funny is great, too!
EDIT
I just want to come back here for a moment to let you all know that you have beautiful minds. the thought and energy put into your imaginary perfumes is phenomenal. this truly is the best subreddit to ever exist- simply because it’s filled with the best humans on all of reddit. everyone is so sweet and supportive and kind to each other. i love y’all sm
Time for my first review post, this may be long so bear with me!
I have always enjoyed perfume but discovered indies this spring after experiencing cravings for some unusual scents, musty basement in particular (PSA: this can be a sign of low iron levels/anemia, as it was in my case!) Alkemia was the first house I started with after reading through the suggestions in this thread. I found some musty scents I really love (TLDR: St. Louis Cemetery and Gaea are my Alkemia holy grails) but I've also started to branch out and explore through sampling. I'm still developing my tastes, but so far I'm:
I'm only interested in oils currently, and don't care at all about throw or sillage, Longevity is nice, but I don't mind reapplying throughout the day if I love the scent. On to the reviews, in alphabetical order!
A Roll in the Hay (A delightful romp through dried hay, fresh green grass, early summer wildflower honey, vanilla grass, vanilla leaf, and wild poppy) : Dry and sweet yellow hay and dry vanilla, strong and lasts FOREVER. This is nice for summer or late fall. It was a free sample and not necessarily something I would have chosen for myself, but I've grown to really love it.
Awakening Desert (Rainstorm across desert. Cracked earth drinks deeply, softening into moist clay. Desert springs refill and replenish. An elemental scent of awakening... dry warm mitti earth, parched grasses, dried wood, and mineralistic clay drenched in rainwater): I thought I would love this based on the notes, but I can't get over the banana note I'm smelling in the beginning, which I think is how I'm perceiving the dried grasses. Dry down is better but not really remarkable and doesn't last all that long.
Book of Shadows (A biblichor of eldritch books - heavy parchment paper, ancient iron oak gall ink, crumbling leather bindings, and wafts of rare incenses): This smells so good in the bottle, like glossy paper and ink. On skin it's STRONG ink and incense and lasts all day. Tried layering (a DROP) with a lighter, sweeter incense scent (Solstice Scents Scrying Smoke) which worked well.
Coconut Alchemy (A summer tropical blend of fresh white coconut, sugarcane, baby bananas, tuberose, and gingerflower): This is nice. The banana note is not too strong and fades quickly. Dries down to a coconut vanilla and doesn't last all that long. I had success layering it with woody scents like SS Gibbons or Badlands to give it some depth and longevity.
Deus Ex Machina (An olfactory portrait of industrial decay and the fallen gods of age of disruption, innovation, and technological revolution... fire hardened steel, rusted iron, motor oil, wet cement, burnt copper wires, and grey amber): This is so sexy. Now that it has aged I really get the motor oil while wet, and it dries down to a lovely wet cement and amber. May FS this one.
Dustsceawung (The scent of forbidden explorations and an olfactory meditation on dust... attic air, the inside of old trunks, abandoned haylofts, library stacks, and abandoned buildings): This is so good and dusty in the bottle but has a cloying or sour note on my skin. It's similar to Library by SS which is better.
Gaea (Forest loam under warm spring sunshine, new ferns poking up through decaying leaves, maple sap flowing over lichens, mosses and wet stones at the edge of a vernal pool): I LOVE this and immediately FSed. It's green in the bottle, like a thick sappy green of a hot, humid forest after the rain, but also has a cool and subterranean quality. Turns a bit powdery (the stone?) on skin, and stays just this side of mildewy. Not much staying power but layers well with longer lasting scents like Silver Sky.
Lilacs Along the Winding Drive (Lilac bushes heavy and purple with blooms, a gentle breeze after light spring rain, a dusty pebbled driveway, a slightly rusty porch swing, and a small handful of late blooming violets): Very pretty; I only get lilacs from this but it's great layered with SS During the Rain to amp the rainy quality.
Lost Highways (Roadtrip around the U.S. in a bottle. A botanical peregrination of Saw Palmetto Palm leaves and Southern cypress from the Southeast bayous; New mown hay, Lemon basil, Wild bergamot tea from the Great Plains; Linden blossom and Acadian pine from the Northeast; Night flowering desert flowers from the Southwest; and Spicebush and Incense cedar from the West and Northwest coast): Pretty and complex. I can't pick out any individual notes although something in there is a bit sweet and cloying to me. I was excited about the pine but I don't get any unfortunately. It lasts subtly throughout the day and doesn't change too much on dry down.
Love Among the Ruins (An ancient ruin of fallen stonework covered with lichen and tangles of flowering vines slowly disintegrating/returning to nature): Opens with a sharp green note and develops a nice dusty stone note shortly after and lasts a while. I love the dry down but I'm not sure I like the opening enough to FS.
Love Unforeseen (A romance of white musk, Persian chandelier lily accord, night blooming jasmine, laleh, honeysuckle, tonka bean, bergamot, white pepper, white amber, china clay, and the silvery aquatics of melting snow): This has a lot going on but I like it. I get dry jasmine, then a sharp laundry musk, then something sweet and dusty almost like incense. I really get the clay in the dry down and it lasts a long time.
Moss Maiden (The wild seduction of a full moon night. A luxuriant bed of moss, crushed wet ferns, earthy calamus roots, piquant cedar tips, galbanum, balsam pine, lichen, disturbed autumnal leaves, and aromatic incense woods): I've been lucky enough to have a pretty high hit rate with Alkemia, and this was my first hard NO. It's green in the bottle but fresher and less thick than Gaea, but it turns crazy on my skin--hand-soapy, sharp, and really strong. There is a dry herbal note that's not bad but it's overwhelmed by SOAP.
Novella (A cozy afternoon of curled up in a favorite chair - delicately spiced Lavender de Provence, steaming Earl Gray tea, and tattered old paperback books): This is a strong tea scent with a little lavender for me; I don't get much paper but layering with SS Library amps the paper and smells AMAZING. Nice and cozy for cold weather.
Prarie 66 (The smell of an old cement-paved road in the desert just before dawn when the cement is cold and almost, but not quite damp. Flowering desert sage, aldehydes, grapefruit, Linden blossoms, bergamot, saffron, gray amber, yucca, yuzu, and cool concrete): This does convey the effect of dawn on the road with an interesting cool dewy grittiness. I also get a touch of fizzy citrus and a fresh herbal or hay note. Layers well with St. Louis or SS During the Rain to amp the concrete note. Perfect for late summer.
Sandscape (Sun warmed beach sand, Atlantic ocean breezes, the saline-aquatic scent of drying sea water on skin, and the faintest hints of tanning oil and seaweed): Clean laundry musk with a beautiful sand note, it's so nostalgic especially with pool chlorine lingering on skin/hair. It's fairly long lasting and doesn't change much in dry down. I FSed as it was being discontinued, and I'm experimenting with layering including with Gulf Breeze by SS (adds brininess and amps the sand note) and Lazy River by Osmofolia (even though there's no chlorine per se, the pool adjacent notes work well).
Silver Sky (A springtime freshet of rainwater musk, oceanic grey amber, muget, daffodil, silver needle tea, galbanum, and white cedar): I sampled this based on a review on here that described it as " laundry that has been through a cleaning cycle of green rain water and flowery detergent." and it's true and it's great. It's fairly long lasting and doesn't change much in dry down. Nice layered with Gaea or SS During the Rain for a perfect rainy day vibe. May FS.
Siren's Spell (A beachy love spell woven from the sun-warmed white beach sand, star jasmine, plumeria, suntan lotion, sea spray, coconut cream, vanilla orchid, and tonka): This is heavily jasmine to me, and a more traditionally perfumey and less atmospheric take on the beach than Sandscape.
St. Louis Cemetery #1 (An atmospheric brooding of Spanish moss, crumbling stone, old cement, red clay brick, and graveyard dirt): I'm OBSESSED with this and immediately FSed. It's dry, dusty bricks and cement, with a sweetness to it that's almost vanillic. To me it smells like what hitting bricks together sounds like if that makes any sense lol. Layering with Gaea for a wet/mildew dimension gives a pretty accurate basement smell, and I also found out by accident that it layers well with coffee notes (Sawmill by SS is a favorite rn). The only drawback is that it's very short-lived on my skin.
Sun Dried Laundry in a Summer Rain (Stonewashed linen and clean, sun-dried cotton billowing gently on an old fashioned clothesline spattered by the first gently ozonic drops of a Maine summer rain): This is vintage/discontinued and is a similar laundry musk and rain scent to Silver Sky. I blind bought it from the July sale and glad I did. Both this and Silver Sky are so amazing layered with Gaea or SS During the Rain.
Tulips and Chimneys (An urban springtime of rainy aldehydes, wet asphalt, industrial steam engines, farmer's market bouquets of fresh tulips, Toulouse violets, mint pastels, and a warm touch of clove viburnum): This actually smells like flowers, rain, and pollution, with a hint of petrichor. It's kind of funky and I kind of love it. Would consider FSing.
Whisper of Stars (The ethereal magic of a summer night. Cool dew and airy musk whispering over green stemone, lily of the valley, jasmine tea, and Spanish tree moss): This is a light flowery musk with a little bit of green that starts off strong and borderline soapy but quickly dries to a powdery, ambery scent that is fairly long lasting. It's very pillowy and comforting.
Ydalir (Mysterious, smoky, and primal. A 100% natural origin scent of Megalithic ancestral memory - 35 million year old fossilized amber resin, oakmoss absolute, Siberian Black Pine, smoked Juniper tar, and balsam pine needles preserved in a base of pure, cold pressed Meadowfoam seed oil): This smells like BBQ sauce in the bottle! Reading through layering suggestions, I saw fruit mentioned so I layered a drop with Stolas by Fantome. I like the smoke it adds but there's something in there that borders on medicinal for me.
That's it (so far!) I feel like there are whole categories of scents in Alkemia's catalog that I haven't touched, so let me know if there's anything amazing I'm missing out on!
I'm looking for some skin care products from small businesses/indie brands. Not ridiculously expensive please, reasonable. I have sensitive skin with some redness here and there that needs moisture, I am not acne prone but if my skin doesn't like something it will break out. I'm working in anti aging where I can. My skin is ok with retinol. I need a good cleaner and moisterizer to start, thanks :D
hi! i’ve seen tweed as a note in a few fragrances and i want to see more but every time i search online i just end up with results for green irish tweed by creed. does anybody have any suggestions for fragrances with tweed or similar notes?
So my daughter and grandson have asked me to recreate these favorites. How cute are these little bottles!? (Pen for size reference) My grown daughter used to wear VS Secret years ago and it’s discontinued. My grandson loves the replica but wants a little more marshmallow note. I was able to get my hands on these little samples for scent comparisons. Getting ready to head into the lab to start blending. Merry Christmas to me! 😊
