Hi, all, not affiliated with Fyrinnae, just a happy customer. 8-) Their website states they'll have a sale Oct 31 to Nov 1. "Sale begins and ends at midnight Pacific time" -- it looks like the sale is on now. Prices are automatically reflecting the sale price. Most seem to be 13% off. Looks like it's everything (perfume, powder, eyeshadow, foundation).
I’m looking for recs for pudding consistency type body butters/lotions. Nothing greasy please! I love thick cocoa butter/shea but hate the greasy feeling
Ajevie is the real MVP. Happy Halloween everyone! 👻
I'm looking for some simpler, non-gourmand scents from cocoapink to use for their dry oil sprays. I got a couple in scents I thought would work recently during my first ccp order, but while the product works for me (body moisturizer that isn't lotion aka the texture from hell!), the scents really aren't something I enjoy. I figure I'll get a couple more to try out during their upcoming sale, but after striking out so poorly in my last order, I was hoping I could get some advice about what would work best.
My previous order, I got Glowing Eyes (too sweet and too similar to an old BBW that I didn't like) and Scorched Pumpkin (the smoke note is too strong and astringent for me. I was really hoping it would be more like Solstice Scents'). I also got Cat Dapperling as a perfume sample to try, since everyone here seems to love it, but the caramel is too strong for me.
I'm hoping to find something that's not gourmand (absolutely no chocolate, caramel, or marshmallow; fruity is okay), ideally something with a warm base that's not too complex. The scents I'm currently eyeing for this purpose are: Amber White // Sensory Deprivation Tank // Black // Green Tea // Couer de Vahine.
I'm especially hopeful for Amber White because I love Solstice Scents' Amber Couer, but. That cross-brand association burned me last time. If anyone has any insights or recommendations I'd be really grateful!!
Hello, IMAM! This is Part 2 of a large haul (ordered from three houses), with Part 1 found here. I actually finished testing these a few days ago, and just... forgot to post the reviews. Well, they're here now!
It’s important to note that, while I initially chose the fragrances based on notes, I make a point of not double-checking when I test, going in as blindly as possible. Now, on to the reviews!
Pulp
“Berry Pink Lemonade” – raspberries, cherries, red currants, grenadine, & lemonade
“Okay, let’s see what the lemon—” (sniffs vial) “Oh, wow. Oh, that is pink. And lemonade. And pink! Do I… do I wanna? …Yes, yes I wanna!” (apply to arm) “Okay, this is—” (sniff) “Holy freaking God, what—how did they do this! This is straight up Minute Maid—” (sniff again) “No. No, this is the pink Country Time powder in the plastic container that Dad used to buy at the grocery store! The pink one! Oh my God. How… wow!”
Rating: 5/5 – new summer favorite has just arrived
“Pumpkin Forest Cabin” – pumpkin spice, pine sap, juniper berries, woodsmoke, oakmoss, dried wood, and salted caramel
When opening the vial, I’m greeted with the same sweet pumpkin that’s in “Pumpkin Assam Massala.” Pulp’s pumpkin note is not necessarily fruity, but it is delicious. After that, it dries down to… a kind of airy, alpine fragrance with a hint of pumpkin spice.
Honestly, I don’t really see a reason to own both of those fragrances. If PAM (hehe!) sounds too sweet & spicy for you, and you want something quieter, then PFC is the one for you. But my nose is kind of weak, and I have to hunt for the scent on my arm. This one is for people who want more subtlety with their fall perfumes.
Rating: 3/5 – a memory of a PSL
“Hive” – honeycomb, cardamom, black amber, vanilla milk, and smoking out the hive for the fall honey harvest
I waited for a day when I didn’t have to go anywhere to test this. That’s because it was a freebie and I didn’t know any of the notes… but one look at the name and I could assume. Hive. Beehive. Honey.
Honey is a death note for me, so I tested this with trepidation, preparing myself for cloying sweetness to scrub away. Miraculously, however, I didn’t get a hint of honey out of the vial. No, I smelled… cool herbs like fennel, and possibly wormwood. It was the same on my skin, which I found intriguing. Eventually, a nuance developed that made me think of a dusty crypt, which isn’t usually my vibe but something I can appreciate.
Altogether, the perfume reminded me of “Lucy Westenra” from Sixteen92, except less powdery. So if that discontinued fragrance is something that you’ve loved and lost, you might want to check out Pulp Fragrance “Hive.”
Rating: 3/5 – spooky, but classy
“Playing Hooky” – bubblegum, cardamom, dried fruit, cherry Kool-Aid powder, dead leaves, & amber woods
I vaguely remembered this fragrance contained a bubblegum note, so I was surprised at the tartness when I opened the vial. When testing, the opening was refreshingly citric… but then…
Yep, there it is. There’s the Bazooka Joe! It’s the most realistic bubblegum I’ve ever encountered in perfume, indie or mainstream. It stays bubblegum, too—it doesn’t turn powdery or floral, or anything like that. You must enjoy bubblegum (particularly how it smells) to enjoy this one. Luckily, I do! But I think it’ll be even better in warm weather, so I’ll save my sample till then.
Rating: 5/5 – blow a bubble the size of your face
“His Licentious Habits” – cognac, dried fruit, immortelle, balsamic vanilla, labdanum, leather, vetiver, musk, and fir branches
In reading the name for this one, I wondered whether this would prove to be a really “masculine” scent (and thus not really my jam). When opening the vial, I was greeted with a wonderfully tart scent, so that raised my hopes, and I applied it to my arm before leaving for work.
Then I forgot about it. For two hours—and when I sniffed my arm, I detected next to nothing, just something… vaguely musky? It’s unreal how much my skin absolutely ate this fragrance, and I almost didn’t bother reviewing it. Given the notes list (which contains several things I love), I have zero clue what happened here.
Rating: 1/5 – his sleepy habits
Sorce
“Your Girlfriend Is A Badass” – rich fudge frosting, which gives way to decadent yellow cake and grounding forest floor notes
This was the first of the new Sorce perfumes that I tested, having gotten some on my fingers by accident when I first opened the package, the fudge-like scent delightful. And in application, there was that chocolate—in fact, one of the richest chocolate notes I’ve found in a perfume to date.
I was incredibly optimistic. One of the biggest things I look for in perfume is a balance between sweet and non-sweet notes, particularly deserts and… the woods, I guess. Too often, however, the non-sweet notes end up overpowering everything on my skin.
And… that’s exactly what happened here. Not half an hour had gone by before the deep, earthy, slightly burnt scent of patchouli dominated on my skin, lingering for hours and hours. Yeah, this forest floor is nothing but patchouli on me, because my skin amps patchouli to the moon and back. I’m sure this can make somebody else very happy.
Rating: 3.5/5 – probably how Mugler’s “Angel” would smell on me, come to think of it
“She’s A Witch” – warm pizzelle cookies studded with anise seeds and dusted with powdered sugar, heliotrope, sheer woods, musk
This one is one of Sorce’s darlings, often recommended to newbies as an intro to the brand. Some reviews I’ve read have grouped this with other “licorice scents” and talked up the note’s appearance in the fragrance, while others have downplayed it—probably to appeal to those of us who are not licorice fans.
I am not among that number. I love licorice—“Black Mallow” by Solstice Scents is one of my favorite perfumes (sadly discontinued, though Possets “Nessun Dorma” is very close to it, swapping the marshmallow for caramel). So having the licorice/aniseed note downplayed was what allowed me to put this one off for a while.
But in the end, I had to satisfy my curiosity about the pizzelle cookies. For those unfamiliar with them, pizzelles are Italian cookies that are quite similar to waffles in their texture and how they’re cooked. My grandma cranking out the pizzelle maker (yes, it was a waffle iron-like appliance just for pizzelles) let me know the Christmas season had arrived. (She’s still around; the pizzelle-maker, however, is not.) Grandma always used vanilla extract in hers, though aniseed is the most traditional flavoring.
The pizzelles in SAW, however, are more like my grandma’s pizzelles than what’s stated in the description. For one thing, I’m shocked at how realistic the pizzelle scent is in this fragrance; but it’s rich in vanilla extract (instead of regular vanilla) and only has hints of aniseed. But WOW is it realistic! I had to laugh at smelling like a pizzelle… but I did enjoy it.
Rating: 5/5 – cuddly grandma… so, like a real witch, then 😊
“Party Under the Oak Trees” – pink pepper, fuzzy peach skin warmed in the sun, a hint of cinnamon, whipped cream, sweet tea, cedar, oakmoss, humid greenery
Okay, this one had been on my to-test list for a long time! Mostly because I’ve been searching for a peach fragrance that’s realistic (as opposed to foody) and long-lasting. Slowly, I’ve come to the conclusion that that’s too much to ask of a peach note; but still, I hold out hope.
PUtOT, on the other hand… ummm… I don’t know what happened here. I hardly smelled anything out of the vial before testing, and it went on quietly. And it stayed quiet for the entire day.
Thankfully. Because whenever I sniffed my arm, I smelled something that was either faintly rosy, faintly peachy, or faintly burnt. I don’t think I like the combination of pink pepper and peach. Or, looking at the notes as I finish this writeup, maybe I don’t like cinnamon and oakmoss together? Whatever it is…
Rating: 1/5 – something went wrong
SIDE-BY-SIDE TEST
Sorce, “A Sign Painted Peaches” – juniper berries, nutmeg, coriander, musks, amber wood and vanilla
Persevering in my quest for a realistic and long-lasting peach fragrance, the next Sorcellerie Apothecary fragrance I tested was ASPP—and I was greeted with a lovely, pure, but subtle peach note. At times it smelled like the fruit itself, and at others it smelled like… popsicles? Yes, musky popsicles. It alternated between the two vibes quite consistently, but always stayed close to the skin.
Rating: 4/5 – peach sophistication
Pulp, “Mango Peach Lemonade” – mangoes, peaches, & lemonade
This one was the last Pulp fragrance I tested, and is exactly what it says on the tin. And I love it for that. While I had Sorce ASPP on one arm, I tested MPL on the other, and the aroma wafting up from this arm was a perfect braid of those three notes: sweet (sugared?) lemons, fresh mangos, and peaches that practically dripped when bitten. It’s not a peach solinote by any means (so, not like what I thought I was looking for), but it is the juiciest, loudest, and longest-lasting one I’ve encountered yet. This one’s definitely going away until summer.
Rating: 5/5 – ♫ Millions of peaches, peaches for me / Millions of peaches, peaches for free ♫
Sorce (cont.)
“A Witch’s Valentine” – raspberry puree; Turkish, Moroccan, and Bulgarian rose absolutes; marshmallow; sugar; white chocolate; suede
This one was the freebie of my Sorce order, so I didn’t know what it would smell like. And I not only didn’t know what to make of it once I tested it, but I still didn’t know what to make of it after twelve hours of wear. It’s long-lasting but not “beast mode,” and so incredibly well-blended that I have difficulty picking out notes. (In this respect, it’s rather traditional, especially compared to everything else I’ve tried this haul.)
Sometimes, I think I smell white chocolate. Others, I think I smell strawberries. And still others a soft musk. But nothing ever rings clear.
To my surprise, the notes list boasts raspberry, not strawberry. It’s not a rich raspberry, and combined with the roses (very soft) it’s more sweet than fruity. I was right about the white chocolate, though. Altogether it’s a very office-friendly perfume, but definitely not “me.”
Rating: 4/5 – “witches” get respectable for Valentine’s Day
“Dancing Under the Full Moon” – tuberose absolute, labdanum, strawberry, saffron, Texan cedar, Amyris, ginger, cumin, cinnamon
I have a confession to make: this was one of the first Sorce scents I opened. I closed it right back up when I was greeted with the fake saccharine aroma of grape Dimetapp. It was powerful and unnerving. Hoping that it was something that would fade if left alone for a few days, I placed it back among the others yet to be tested and didn’t touch it again until almost the end of my testing.
Sadly, that opening aroma did not leave. I almost didn’t even apply this to my skin because I found that note so off-putting. But I applied some on my skin, and waited, and eventually that OTC medicinal opening calmed down into something vaguely fruity. Strawberry? Yeah, strawberry. Strawberry and something toasty. But to even get to that point I need to wade through that terrible opening, and I don’t want to subject myself to that again.
Rating: 1/5 – home in bed with a cold and cough
“Sceance” – Campari, orange, cinnamon, jasmine sambac absolute, immortelle absolute, ambrette, vanilla sugar, smoked amber, salt, Australian sandalwood oil, cashmere woods
This is the last fragrance I tested in my haul, and I was quite excited for this one—and a bit sad that the other FS blind buys hadn’t worked out. Nevertheless, “Sceance” proved to have that perfect balance of sweet and smoky, eventually smelling a bit like Creamsicles around a campfire.
I’ll be honest, I’m a bit disappointed I didn’t smell any Campari, which was the impetus for me choosing this scent; but I still appreciated the smoky-sweet orange and sandalwood (because I definitely got that bit).
Rating: 4/5 – I wonder what would happen if I made a s’more with a Terry’s Chocolate Orange wedge…?
And… that’s it for my haul. I know I’m not blind-buying a bunch of FS bottles again, that’s for sure; but there were some surprise hits overall. Some of these also need to be put away until springtime...
Edit: typo
I recently figured out that the bath and body works car clip things perfectly hold a cotton round (the flat kind). So being the gremlin that I am, I decided to try some of Solstice’s Nightgown (burnishing glacé) on one. So far it doesn’t have a huge amount of throw but, when the heat or the air kicks on I really notice it. My question for you wonderful people is what should I try next? I have a 16 hour road trip coming up and I would love to hear what you would consider good “car smells.”
Notes are: Skin musk and silk with a whisper of tonka, coffee bean, and russet amber.
Or, how do you like BPAL’s coffee note in general?
What's your expectation when you get a shipping notification but the tracking still just says "Shipping Label Created, USPS Awaiting Item" and it stays like that for a while? Lately I've had orders stay on that status for multiple days, sometimes a full week or even a little more ... which I assume means the brand printed out the label but has not in fact shipped the order. Which seems annoying and a little misleading.
It's been happening even with highly reliable brands lately (which I don't think it used to?), which made me wonder: when you get a shipping notification, is your expectation that it is actually, you know, shipping? If not today, then tomorrow? Or do I need to adjust my expectations?
How long is too long, basically?
There was a non-indie house once mentioned in this sub a while ago that I really want to go back to. I looked at it's website but can't for the life of me remember the name, again this was a while ago and I stupidly didn't make a note of it.
It was a French house, smaller, more traditional, with many scents that were more green and floral than sweet or modern. The graphic design was also more traditional. I'm pretty sure the house itself had some history, it wasn't new, it stuck to older methods of perfumery whatever that means
Any help would be appreciated, if anything I said rings a bell lmk
Just got the $45 sample set from Etat libre d’Orange and I’m blown away by how much product I’m getting for the price @ $2.25ea. Are there other houses with sample sets like that? I’ve tried a few others but get way less product for around the same price. For instance Alkemia is $3ea but they throw in 2 bonus samples so it comes to $2.15ea but for way less product.
After a round of samples, I decided to place an order for a full size rollerball of “My Only Sunshine” and “Wax and Wane”, and added a cute bat sticker I spotted on the website. TaT was right at two weeks from placing the order to it showing up on my doorstep. Opening a package from Lysa is always such a treat! The bottles were wrapped in bubblewrap and tissue paper and stamped with a lovely raven wax seal.
I was pleasantly surprised to see that I also got a free Dram of a scent called Dreamland! I found the notes listed on the store’s Facebook page as “Maple syrup, maple leaf, egyptian musk, cocoa husk, vanilla bean, dark amber, cedar, and oak roots.” At first test it smells strongly of a buttery maple syrup, very maple-y but not too sweet. Personally, I hope after resting a bit the other notes become a bit stronger but as-is it’s perfect for someone who wants to smell like a delectable stack of pancakes!
I’m pretty new to indie perfumes (and scents in general), and so far had only tried Imaginary Authors. I slowly tested their entire catalog and wrote some reviews on here. But after lurking this sub for a while I felt inspired to branch out and order a few samples from Ajevie, especially since everything sounds soooo good this time of year. I started mainly with Death & Floral and threw in a couple of the Lucky #9s because I love the cat theme.
Background on me: I’m still getting acquainted with the different scent notes, so my reviews are my impressions. I used to work at a distillery and loved doing tasting notes on our whiskeys and botanical liqueurs, but now that I’m sober this is a new avenue to tickle the nose hairs. I love how scents can be subjective and illustrative, and I think there’s something so fun about trying to translate a scent into writing. Some of y’all on here are such good writers!
That said, I do enjoy the names descriptions in Death & Floral’s catalog… are you kidding with some of those, haha! I want to try everything based on the names alone. I know it’s all part of the marketing, but I appreciate it and it makes it fun.
FROGS (Death & Floral)
“Grounding and warm woods, Virgina cedar, cold-pressed yuzu, overgrown moss, forest mushrooms, wet humid frog skin”
I love this. It isn’t as gross as it could be (though I probably would have still liked it). I was expecting a bit more of a dank mildew funk. I’m from the Pacific Northwest and have smelled a lot of wet mossy forests, but this is actually pretty subtle and balanced. Just a well-rounded cozy autumn scent. Someone was asking for a Frog and Toad scent and I’d say this is it totally it, leaning more towards picture book and less actual amphibians.
Painted Fires (Death & Floral)
“Dry desert rose & dusty ground, sweet summer citrus, leftover bonfire ash, white safe distilled in New Mexico, sun-warmed ghostly flow”
The sage and desert-y notes really come through, but the citrus ruins it for me. I’m sensitive to what seem like commercial frebreezey bathroom scents and unfortunately citrus can take it to that place for me. Some might be able to find that the citrus brightens the whole profile, but I dunno, lemons don’t fit into the dry desert landscape image for me. It kind of smells like a cute crystal shop that carries sage smudge sticks, but I was hoping for a more outdoorsy desert scent.
Plain Jane (Death & Floral)
“Black Oudh, Fresh morning coffee, rolled tobacco, vegan animal musk, cedar, cinnamon crunch cereal”
My first impression of this was it was my favorite scent of my order, and then I was a little disappointed that it was called “Plain Jane” because I feel that Death & Floral’s copywriting is so creative and this deserves a more inspired name. It reminds me of an old school coffee shop in my hometown that had saggy couches, punk baristas serving coffee & pastries, smokers on the wraparound porch, students studying all day, shelves of old books and games. It’s a mix of everything in the room—plant, animal, and food. The coffee notes are a lot stronger out of the tube than on my skin.
People Watching the Dead (Death & Floral)
“Spiced Bread and Paprika blended with silk amber”
I don’t get any of the bread or paprika. I even went into my spice cabinet and huffed the paprika back and forth with this, and I really don’t get it. What I do get is WET WALLS. Damp, sharp, mildewy walls. Which I actually love! Reminds me of the 1890s Victorian farmhouse I lived in in my early 20s that was always damp inside and definitely haunted, but also cozy and just so cool. To me, the name “People Watching the Dead” says it all, it’s the smell of a ghost floating through your bedroom and hiding in the walls.
Paw Prints in the Snow (Lucky #9)
“Ozone, Icy Fir Frees, Mistletoe, Cranberries, Blackberries”
This is so fresh and cozy, though it definitely has a Christmassy feel. It’s like Christmas candle meets berry lip gloss, a cute mix of girly and piney. It’s not in your face though, pretty subtle and sweet. I’ll be wearing this on days when I’m feeling more cheerful and in the holiday spirit.
Curse of Black Amber (Lucky #9)
“Amber, Fir needles, Vanilla, charred cedar wood, Chilly ozone, white musk, bergamot, funeral flowers, tonka beans, and just a dab of patchouli and vetiver.”
I can’t do patchouli, but thankfully when they say “just a dab” they mean it. The fir needles are very Christmas tree, but with all the other notes it’s giving dark sultry velvet-clad Christmas mistress. I’ll be wearing this winter when I’m feeling like a sexy Scrooge, ruining Christmas by seducing Santa and burning the Christmas tree out back.
Let me know if you've tried any of these and what you think! Always open to recs too. <3

Hi all, I'm looking for suggestions to replace two of my favorite Poesie scents that have been discontinued. I'm hoping for some ideas on scents that have a similar vibe from other indie providers.
Here are the notes from Poesie and how the scents work for me:
Athena - sun-baked Mediterranean herbs and earth, a rich and resinous vanilla spiked with a complex blend of incense and spice, exquisite grey musk.
I love this one for its super dry vanilla and sunny warmth, but there's something in there that gives it an edge to keep it interesting and not nice-nice. It's a confidence booster scent for me.
Awakening (from the Labyrinth collection) - golden amber, black leather still warm from skin, coriander, cardamom, black and pink peppercorn, moss, smutty tingles.
This one drys down on my skin to a peppery leather that is aggressive and super sexy. It's a let's go out and have some mischief scent for me.
Thanks for your help!
Hi guys! This is my first time ordering from Nui Cobalt but I need some help narrowing down my order. Are there any scents that are similar that I can get rid of?
For reference I like gourmands that aren’t too sickly sweet. I like oats, cream, milky scents :) Still trying to look for something that smells like the L’occitane almond shower oil or the Dove rice milk & macademia body scrub 😩
Here are the scents I was considering:
is there a strawberry pound cake dupe or soemthing because i don’t think it’s even made anymore help a girl out 😭
I just read about the smell of the cocoa butter in the shower butter’s overpowering most vanillas. I was wondering if anyone has any feedback on these scents in the shower butter? Are they strong enough to balance out the cocoa butter smell?
-Vanilla Bean Noel -Spiritueuse double vanille -Gooey Caramel -Butterscotch Marshmallow frosting
Any others you would recommend instead? I love caramel scents and don’t usually go for chocolate.
I recently received my first Sunsphere order, and unfortunately something seems to have escaped. The samples came in a little bag that I have in my library/ guest room. Whenever I walk in the room, I get a BLAST of scent. And if I touch the bag, I am scented with it.
I want to clean up the bottles, so I can smell them individually without the spilled scent. I didn't notice any individual perfume seeming to be the culprit, so I'm not sure of the source.
So finally to the question - can I wash the little bottles with dish soap? Will that help or somehow get in the bottles? For reference, the bottles are little spray bottles. See second picture at this link: https://www.sunspherescents.com/products/souvenir-sample-pack
Hey luvs im back, im searching for an indie perfume that I can wear basically everyday. I want it to be unique but really head turning and something that will be unique + different, and something that will have people know its me just by smelling my perfume. Id prefer a unique vanilla scent thats slightly musky (not too much), and slightly sweet at the same time.
Scents I like: Vanilla, strawberry, berries, florals, lightly musky scents, not too woody scents,
Scents I dont like: Patchouli, orange, lemons, pumpkin, cinnamon, butterscotch, any spices, any powdery scent
I just learned this exists (or used to) and my life has changed.
Is this good?
I really couldn’t stand Wylde Ivy Avalon Hill which has roasted corn notes so I’m scared of popcorn.
But that title!!!
It’s a now defunct Arcana scent but seems available online…
Warning: This post will discuss the holiday season. I know it’s not even Halloween and I’m the worst, but I’m feeling very Christmasy right now and it feels very out of my control.
Every year I like to order waaayyy too much hot chocolate (the beverage) from indie businesses for the holiday season, and it’s just about time for me to start thinking about it! This year I made a watchlist of romantic Christmas movies to get me in the festive spirit, and I’d like to pair different hot chocolates with each movie (probably not quite literally one flavor per movie bc that would be maybe just this side of too much hot chocolate lol, but I’d like a nice spread).
Tell me all about your fav indie places to order hot chocolate! I love weird flavors, so that would be a bonus, but not at all required. I also love traditional flavors. Oh and I’m in the US, so I’ll need places that can ship to me. Thank you for any and all recs!
Asking for me lol
Hi all, I am looking for a perfume similar to Bath and Body Works Gingham Vibrant. The notes listed are "wild blackberries, candied violets, and soft vanilla". The scent is a light, bright, and sparkly fruity floral, with the fruity part being stronger. Has anyone come across anything similar? :)
