All things Indiana Jones.

Personally, I'm at the point where I would rather see them give it another shot 5 or 10 years down the road with a new actor playing Indy, instead of just letting the series die when Harrison Ford does. as much as I have utmost respect for Ford and his wishes to keep the character untouched after his passing, it seems kinda crazy - like what if they stopped making James Bond movies after Sean Connery retired from playing the character? That would have be dumb even though he's still the OG. And honestly, instead of doing Indy 4 & 5, it might have been a better idea to recast the character in the 90s or 2000s instead of trying to delve into an aging Indy whose story was already complete... I know it would be insanely difficult to pull off and not as good as the originals, but as long as they kept the time period in the 30's I'd genuinely be interested in what a talented director - actor pair could come up with, idk. I just think there's endless potential for Indy adventures and stories to tell. And yes, animation would be cool, but it's just not the same to me.
Might be because „Raiders of the Ark“ is my favourite part but this poster is just awesome.
(Prepare your tinfoil hats) The only thing that makes sense is that these beings are responsible for the creation of the Ark, the Sankara Stones, the Holy Grail and the technology that allowed Archimedes to develop the Antikythera. They are what humans consider God, both little ‘g’ and big ‘G’
I'm doing some Christmas shopping.
We’ve seen Indiana find Christian artifacts but would it be interesting for Indiana to find Pandora’s box or potentially find some other objects related to Greek myths?! Thoughts?
A very questionable aspect in The Dial of Destiny that makes me unconvinced that it understands Indiana Jones is the scene where Indy tells Helena he doesn't believe in magic. I know people already talked about this, but I gotta make my case on it.
The first and obvious thing to note is I think's really odd for Indy to say this after everything he's seen and been through in the previous four movies. Not just that, I heard he's done stuff like fight vampires in expanded material, which Disney hasn't DE canonized since they presumably don't know that stuff exists. I've looked up defenses for this scene before making this post so I don't overlook anything and I don't agree with them. I'll go over them one at a time and explain myself.
So people have brought up that Indy also said he doesn't believe in magic in Raiders despite that it was after Temple of Doom and that he's always a skeptic, but the thing is that was a younger Indy with a different worldview. He hasn't seen enough unnatural events at the time and it can be reasonable that he passed off what happened in Temple of Doom as being caused by drugs/chemicals and parlor tricks. The Ark is a little more mythical, although I guess Indy would've just saw that as advanced science.
But after The Last Crusade is when Indy really should've dropped his skeptical nature considering he drunk a cup granting eternal life and gave it to his father. I've seen claims like it's a material from god or something like that, but I'm pretty sure it still qualifies as magic. And I know he called the Crystal Skull a bedtime story, but I think that's a different context since it's literally about aliens from outer space and not known to Earth. Plus even the Skull/alien is a little bit mystical since it chased away creatures and flooded Spalko with so much knowledge. Even if those aren't enough to confirm magic is real, I think Indy would at least believe magic is possible to exist after everything weird that he's already seen.
The other defense I've seen is that Indy doesn't believe in magic because of personal faith, but still acknowledges there's things that he can't explain.....This doesn't make sense. For one, why would Indy personally believe that magic isn't real at such an old age? If anything, I think he should be open to everything that can be unexpected by now. Maybe he shouldn't just assume all magic is real, but he should still believe there's a chance it can exist. It's also confusing when he also admits he's seen things he can't explain. Like what is the logic behind this line? Is it that he chooses not to believe in magic because it can get people killed like Belloq and Donovan? But that would just mean he does believe in magic, but doesn't want to learn more about it.
The only way I can see this line working is if it's a coping mechanism he uses rather than a genuine belief and if a character called it out, maybe it would be interesting. But that's not clear at all and it just comes off as a messy line that I think regresses Indy's character. Plus it kinda feels out of place since the movie is dealing with a generic time travel device over any magic at all. This scene is not one of the worst issues I have with this movie, but it's not a nitpick either.
Fire transition?
I feel like you could easily cut her out and it wouldn't affect the plot much, the only time she actually does something important past Club Obi-Wan is when she opens the spike room, other than that I feel like she doesn't add much to the story. I also don't see why Indy would take her with him to the plane in the first place? Furthermore I feel like cutting her out would allow for more Indy and Shortround scenes which are oke of the peak IJ moments
Is anyone keen to see the achievement list before they purchase the great circle? I’m hoping for loads of hidden collectibles, that’s what’s getting me hyped! Anyone else happy to see the achievement list for spoilers?
I know most of you were probably disappointed with Kingdom of the Crystal Skull but I think you should try and give Dial of Destiny a chance (if you don't, that's perfectly understandable). But look at the films like this: Raiders of the Lost Ark, Temple of Doom and The Last Crusade (Indiana Jones Trilogy), Kingdom of the Crystal Skull (Epilogue) and Dial of Destiny (Epilogue to the Epilogue). If you don't want to watch neither KoTCS nor DoD and just want to stick with the original trilogy, you can do that too. Also, whatever you do, DO NOT listen to certain YouTube channels that talk about this movie (IYKYK). Form your opinion and try and watch it with an open mind
I've just read The Great Circle is only coming out on XBox and PC, then PS5 in a few months. Been anticipating this game for ages but I only have a PS4. Guess I'll have to get a new console. Dangit!
I don’t have a problem…
Just finished Raiders - about to load up Temple of Doom. So the game takes place after those two, but before the Grail right? Are there going to be references to all the movies though?
