r/DesiParentStories is a new subreddit for children of Desi Parents to discuss their experiences and the trauma a lot of us go through behind closed doors.

Growing up, most of us get thrashed and beaten up by our parents with a variety of things. Our parents loved using belts, chappal, brooms and so many other things that should never even touch a child. We're brought up and told it's normal, that everyone goes through this. That our parents went through it too. We're told we should be greatful.

The abuse may even be verbal, with gaslighting and traumatizing name calling mixed in. It's not okay, and the point of this sub is for people to talk about the things they've experienced at the hands of their Desi parents and how they've been repressing it or how it has been affecting them. You're welcome to rant, vent out your feelings or talk about any instances that you want to get off your chest! The members are encouraged to be supportive and validate the person's feelings and experiences.

Of course, not all of our parents are like this. Some of them are kind and prefer to solve issues with words and discussion over physical discipline, but that's not what this is about.

Here is the link to the subreddit. Everyone is welcome to join! Thank you for your attention! Let's break the cycle of abuse in anyway we can.
