Probably a Minority Here: American Who's Fine Trading In Their Hogwarts Colors for Ilvermorny Colors and a Wand Made In the USA.

I just got back into the Harry Potter Universe after some years off. I was probably in the minority who were excited about the creation of an American wizarding school.

Some things I've read why Americans don't want it either to exist or for the Ilvermorny world to be expanded upon sound juvenile and narrow minded considering the other artistic licenses they're fine with in other films and tv series. I'm not too attached to the Hogwarts houses despite loving the original world Rowling built.

I'd love for Rowling to further build upon what was written in Pottermore, and possibly create a North American wizarding world that's arguable more plausible in its functioning than what readers got in the original series. A currency system that makes sense; pre- and post-Ilveromorny education; careers in and outside of the American wizarding world; a more developed wizarding justice system; further inner workings of Ilvermorny; a believable relationship between the magic and No-Majs (decent basis on how Squibs are treated if we use the story of Martha) etc.

Add the early history of America to enhance the lore and future of Ilvermorny. There's so much. potential to be great in its own way, acting as its own entity mostly free from the shadows of the beloved Hogwarts.

Unpopular opinion =

Ilvermony was only made because the Americans were upset that the main books weren’t set in America. Edit = although the goblet of fire could suggest there was a school in the americas.

Sorting Question

I am curious as to how accurate the Extended Quiz or whatever I did was. It gave percentage for how much I match each house and by the it said I was Welcome in Horned Serpent but also Pukwudge...I am curious if it is mathmaticly possible for someone to be welcome in any house. Because the way it has been said one Person was welcomed into all of them from what I heard lore wise. If not then should someone come up with a test where it is possible? I can see how Lore Speaking percentage wise yes if my other two are not on par with the others I would only be welcome in two but if it is not possible for a person to match with all of them how accurate can the Quiz we have access to be?

School year about to start!

So normally in the US, school starts the Tues after Labor Day. I'd like to think that students are now arriving to get ready!

7 Ilvermorny Headcanons

I'm a Harry Potter fan in the U.S. so...

  1. Ilvermorny goes from 13-17 because of a tragic incident in the 1800s involving many young witches and wizards
  2. The Horned Serpent tower stands next to Serpent's Creek, the exact place Isolt Sayre found the Horned Serpent that made the Boot children's wand cores.
  3. The Snakewood tree made from Slytherin's wand is much like the Whomping Willow in the sense that it has a mind of it's own.
  4. There is a nearby wilderness area inhabited by sasquatches
  5. The leader of the scourers is known as the sacrovius. This title is passed down through many generations.
  6. The students arrive at Ilvermorny in several different ways: In America and Canada, there is an old abandoned school for the capital city of each state/province that works much like a vanishing cabinet, transporting them to a place known as the Greylock Terminal. In Mexico, there is a "school" bus working much like the Knight Bus traveling across the country of Mexico picking up the students and taking them to the Greylock Terminal
  7. The Greylock Terminal is a station in the Greylock mountain range takes the students to Ilvermorny through carriages pulled by Aethonans (flying horses).

Anyone want to speculate about what houses characters from other (non-HPverse) media would go in?

I've seen so many people speculate about fictional characters' Hogwarts houses that I thought why not analyze these at least with what we have to work with. For starters (based on various analyses I've found online albeit mostly Tumblr blog pottermore-sorts) here's the sorting for characters from various Disney movies

Horned Serpents

  • Alistair Krei, Hiro Hamada and Wasabi from Big Hero 6

  • Hank from Finding Dory

  • Marlin and Mr. Ray from Finding Nemo

  • Kelsi and Taylor from High School Musical

  • Disgust and Fear from Inside Out

  • Mike and Roz from Monsters Inc.

  • Dean Hardscrabble and Terry from Monsters University

  • Anton Ego and Chef Skinner from Ratatouille

  • Aurora from Sleeping Beauty

  • Evie from The Descendants

  • Edna, Mirage, Syndrome and Violet from The Incredibles

  • Simba from The Lion King

  • Melody from The Little Mermaid II

  • Captain Amelia from Treasure Planet

Thunderbirds

  • Alice from Alice In Wonderland

  • Belle from Beauty And The Beast

  • Fred from Big Hero 6

  • Cinderella from Cinderella

  • Miguel from Coco

  • Bailey from Finding Dory

  • Nemo from Finding Nemo

  • Anna from Frozen

  • Gabriella and Ms. Darbus from High School Musical

  • Bing Bong and Riley from Inside Out

  • Stitch from Lilo & Stitch

  • Aurora from Maleficent

  • Moana from Moana

  • Pocahontas from Pocahontas

  • Remy from Ratatouille

  • Snow White from Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs

  • Flynn Rider and Rapunzel from Tangled

  • Mal from The Descendants

  • Ariel from The Little Mermaid

  • Jack Skellington from The Nightmare Before Christmas

  • Charlotte and Tiana from The Princess And The Frog

Wampuses

  • Jasmine from Aladdin

  • Kida from Atlantis: The Lost Empire

  • GoGo from Big Hero 6

  • Merida from Brave

  • Hercules from Hercules

  • Chad and Sharpay from High School Musical

  • Anger from Inside Out

  • Nani from Lilo And Stitch

  • Philip and Stefan from Maleficent

  • Henry J. Waternoose, Randall and Sully from Monsters Inc.

  • Johnny Worthington III from Monsters University

  • Colette and Django from Ratatouille

  • Jay from The Descendants

  • Dash, Frozone and Mr. Incredible from The Incredibles

  • Nala from The Lion King

  • Eric from The Little Mermaid

  • Naveen from The Princess And The Frog

Pukwudgies

  • Aladdin from Aladdin

  • Robert Callaghan from Big Hero 6

  • Giselle from Enchanted

  • Destiny from Finding Dory

  • Dory from Finding Nemo

  • Elsa and Kristoff from Frozen

  • Ryan from High School Musical

  • Joy from Inside Out

  • Diaval and Maleficent from Maleficent

  • Fungus and Yeti from Monsters Inc

  • Art, Don Carlton, Scott Squibbles and Terri from Monsters University

  • Mulan from Mulan

  • Wendy from Peter Pan

  • Alfredo Linguini, Auguste Gusteau and Emile from Ratatouille

  • Carlos from The Descendants

  • Esmeralda from The Hunchback Of Notre Dame

  • Elastigirl from The Incredibles

So what are your opinions on fictional character sortings for Ilvermorny's houses (both Disney ones not mentioned and ones for other sources entirely)?

Student familiars

I'm from MD and I had this weird and funny thought that my animal companion would be either a Blue Crab or a calico cat (the state cat). Would the familiar depend on the student's state or would it just be a choice of 3 like Hogwarts?

Developing the houses to stand on their own

Right now in my Ilvermorny fic, my biggest struggle is developing the houses so they're not merely American versions of Hogwarts houses. To do that I'm giving them each their own culture. I've got Wampus down as it's the house the main characters are in.

However my struggle is developing Thunderbird so It's not Gryffindor basically. Any thoughts on that?

what would our acceptance letters look like?

would they be similar to Hogwarts? I wanted to get a replica Hogwarts letter but thought that since I'm USA, I would realistically be going to Ilvermony.

Ilvermorny Uniforms!

I’ve started working on a line of clothes inspired by the idea of the ilvermorny uniforms and wanted to see what others thought about the robe specifically.

In my head I see them as very different for each individual. Though they may have the school colors and be clasped together with a golden Gordian knot I felt like the uniform standards would be a bit looser in the ways of, wear your regular clothes but in the ilvermorny colors and dress for the environment (I.e. northern Massachusetts mountain peak in the Appalachian chain).

Fun little project - need help with both words and “look” of this. Ivermony letter for daughter’s 11th birthday?

She’s expecting a letter from Ivermony inviting her to go there for her 11th birthday, later on this month.

I need help with what would such a letter say to tell her to stay in school here with her friends and to keep on reading and practicing math. I want her to still strongly believe.

What would this letter look like? Who would it be signed by?

If they where to make ilvermorny into a new Harry Potter franchise would you think it would work best as a movie series or a television series?

International Studies Program

With so many wizarding schools becoming known to us now I’ve been thinking. Let’s say in your sixth year students are able to apply for a year long exchange spot at another school. If you were to as an Ilvermorny student apply for an exchange program at another school which would it be? I’d choose Castelobruxo, furthering my knowledge in Herbology and Potions.

How would we get to Ilvermony?

First off, do we know where it is and second, is there train service like the Hogwarts Express?

2014 was Samuel G. Quahog's final year as MACUSA President and some musings on what that implies

MACUSA Presidents serve a term of 8 years, Since President Picquery's term ended in 1928, we can extrapolate from there.

1928-1936

1936-1944 (Feel bad for this one, oof)

1944-1952

1952-1960

1960-1968

1968-1974

1974-1982

1982-1990

1990-1998

1998-2006

And finally, 2006 is when Quahog would've been elected, and 2014 would have been the year he was on his way out. It's not clear if elections in Magical America are the media circuses they are in No-maj America, but since he's pretty much a footnote in the short writing in which he appears, it's difficult to tell. It DOES mean that the actual election/new president being sworn in happens later in the year rather than sooner, however.

Discussion: Thoughts on potential Ilvermorny Web Series

Greetings everyone! I'm a filmmaker/HP fan in the States and I had this idea come to me about making a web series focusing on the lives of modern day Ilvermorny students. Each episode would focus on a day with a mixed bag of witches and wizards that make an unlikely, yet tight-nit group of friends. Picture something like Dead Poets Society or even Freaks and Geeks, but set in the Wizarding World. A lot of the fan content I see out there is more retelling of stories or just fantasy fights. There is nothing inherently wrong with this stuff, but we would be trying to create more original, story driven content with this idea. Anyhow, I just wanted to put this out there and get some feelers on potential reception, see how other fans felt about having this kind of content out there, and get some general thoughts.

Myers-Briggs and the Wizarding World: A Research Survey

Hello! The point of this isn't to place everyone of each type into a certain Hogwarts or Ilvermorny house. It is simply to see if any relationships exist between the various house and MBTI types/preferences/temperaments/cognitive functions. Thanks so much! https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/N96SLRD
