IUPUI is a public research university in Indianapolis, Indiana. Riverwalk Apartments

My roomate this year is literally sooo amazing but she’ll be an RA next year. I need to find completely new roomates if I want to live in riverwalk. Part of me is considering trying for a single, are there a ton available? If not, oh my god how do I find people I like enough to apply to room with by January!

Honestly if I dont get a RW single, find great roomates for a dif RW apartment, I may just get an apartment off campus.

When can I apply for housing?

Hi I'm sorry if this has been asked before but the iui website is just so confusing (im running in circles) and I can't figure out when I can start applying for housing, if it's already open, and how I'm supposed to do it anyway. I'm going to be starting as a freshman in fall 2025. Me and my friend really want the Riverview Apartments and I know it probably fills up fast, so I want to do it asap

Application - WTF is taking so long?

I applied to the school August 1st, and have yet to even receive a decision. No acceptance, or rejections. I have a 3.32 GPA, a handful of extracurriculars, and I even sent in a letter of recommendation from a teacher I had my junior year (last year)

Does anyone have (or had) the same problem? I even double checked with admissions and they said I sent in everything needed.

App Discounts?

Anyone know if we get any student discounts or access to paid versions of apps for free through IU? Especially productivity apps like GoodNotes or Notability.

B/MD Program but low SAT Score

Is it still worth it to apply to the program even though my SAT score is a 1360 :/ (660 In English and 700 in math)? My GPA is still high and I meet the other requirements.

I know it's a low score and they are probs going to throw my application out but should I still apply?

This is for IU Indianapolis.

Sublease apartment in Downtown

Hello everyone. I am subleasing my apartment in downtown Indy (Pulliam Square). Its available starting in December and ends in May-June timeframe. The lease can be extended if desired. The rent is $1,420 per month for a 1BR 1BATH and its super accessible with lots of amenities. We will be leaving the down payment of the apartment (1,000 ) and whoever takes the place wont have to pay the down payment (and gets to keep the money after the lease). Please DM me if interested!

Has anyone taken/is taking STAT 519?

Does the professor curve grades?

I'm feeling very discouraged with this class because I spend 20 hours every week reviewing notes, doing the practice exercises, reading the book. I feel very prepared before taking the exam. However, none of that prepares students for the questions on the exam. They are very different from what we learn. Some of the things we are tested on are not in the book and all we have to prepare for them is 1-2 lecture slides. Many students end up with exam grades below a C.

I understand that the purpose of this is to teach critical thinking and applying principles to distantly related problems, but this is not possible given how dense the material in this course is.

This course does not prepare students for comprehensive/qualifying exams. It causes students to lose motivation to learn.

TL;DR: The material in this class is easy but the lectures/assignments/book do not prepare students for exams.

Seeking keyboard player and bass player

Or any other instrument. For IU Indy’s JagBand (pep band). We play at most home basketball games. In my opinion, the music we play is really fun. Attendance to all the games is not compulsory, it is very casual. You do not have to be a student. You can be an alumni, faculty, or just a member of the community. Please request to join the Facebook group “IU Indianapolis JagBand” for more information.

Parking

This feels like a stupid question but I can park on the weekends with my ST permit right? I’m going to the colts game in a couple weeks with my bf and we were gonna park on campus and uber to Lucas to avoid paying for parking.

Point is can I park w no issues?

Migrant Ethnographic Project

Hi there, I am currently taking a class about global migration, and I have a project where I need to reach out and create an ethnography telling a immigration-related story within our community. I have a friend at the moment who would be willing to try it out, but I would possibly like to have another person to interview if they decide that it is uncomfortable to do. Your identity would be masked, using a pseudonym and nothing would be flag who you are, as I know this is a sensitive subject for most. If you are interested please feel free to PM me :). Thank you!

Homophobia, sexism headed your way

Howdy, Iowa State student here. Just wanted to warn you that there's a Christian fundamentalist group coming to Purdue and IUPUI October 14-17. They're the being-gay-is-a-sin, it's-women's-fault-for-being-raped type people. They'll yell offensive things in a public space and try to draw a crowd. I'm not going to name them because I don't want to give them a platform.

Dress up as gay Jesus, make out in front of them, counterprotest, whatever you need to do. Just wanted to give you a heads up.

Happy coming out day!

GradJag Writer's Workshop

Hey everyone, I am an English MA student at IUPUI, and I run the graduate writing accountability group. We meet Mondays, 5-7 pm, and Thursday, 11 am-1 pm, in the library in the graduate commons (4th floor, UL 4115, turn left out of the elevators). I'm hoping to increase engagement with the group by posting on here. If you are a graduate student (or you know a graduate student) who would benefit from this, please send them our way! You can also drop questions or comments down below if you have them. Thanks! -Meg https://liberalarts.indianapolis.iu.edu/programs/uwc/programming-and-services/graduate-write-on-site/ Link for those who are still interested!

Motorsports Engineering material

I live in a state that does not have a Motorsports Engineering program in any of its colleges. I am trying to find as much info as I can to supplement my education. Will any students in this program send me the ISBN # of the textbooks used for the motorsports based courses? Copies of syllabus? Assignments or projects? Thanks in advance for any help!

Is Riverwalk worth it?

What's your(or your friends') experience like at the on campus Riverwalk apartments? I'm heading to IUI for grad school in Jan and I'm on a budget, but all the options around campus seem pretty pricey. If anyone's already staying there I would love to chat and ask a few questions.

Any LGBTQ+ PhD students here?

Let's introduce ourselves and talk about our research! I'll start:

I am a 29 year old lesbian from Kentucky. I'm in my 3rd year and I just passed my qualifying exams. My research is on chromodynamics (strong forces) inside of protons. I am an industry consultant for projects related to this but, ultimately, I'd like to stay in academia as a teaching professor. I did my undergrad at the University of Edinburgh and my masters at New York university. I am involved in student working groups in several conferences in my field and I peer review for their poster sessions.

Questions to get everyone started:

  1. How many first author publications have you written?
  2. Favorite part of academia?
  3. Do you have any other appointments besides being a PhD student?
  4. How many programming languages do you know?
  5. Have you ever received a grant?
  6. How much time to do you reading manuscripts and working?
  7. Do you spend a lot of time collecting data?
  8. Alternative career if you weren't a phd?

Why is the heat on in Cav when it's a measly 65° outside?

I run hot so I'm sweating as soon as I walk into the building. It's easy for the people who run cold to layer up, but I can't layer down more than I am unless I want to get arrested.

Best place to warm up on campus?

I'm getting really sick of air conditioning. Where's the best place to 10mins or so to get warm? Preferably one that remains warm regardless or weather.
