Kurapika is probably one of the most feminine characters I can think of in fiction. His looks, clothes, voice actress, even his demeanor.
I know it's relatively common in anime/manga media for male characters to be feminine, but Kurapika is on a whole new level. He doesn't even look homossexual, just straight up a woman.
I’m unfamiliar with the manga and I just heard that gon is no longer the mc . I wanna know the likely hood of him getting his nen back and once again returning to the show
It's likely that Phantom troupe got so strong through the nen conditions and nen wows. In bonus page of latest published volume, Pakunoda made a wow to never touch a person she loves the most. Recently Phinks and Feitan figured out how Heil-ly gang leveling works. So I bet, they did something similar to became strong.
However, Pakunoda and Chrollo are both specialists and this nen type requires nen conditions and restictions. And that might be a key to understand what Chrollo's design of the spider really is.
Chrollo and others wowed to live their lives as villains for the sake of meteor city kids. They planned to set a trap on internet to lure out Sarasa's killers and similarly minded criminals, track them down and kill them. There wasn't anything about stealing or becoming thiefs, though. And as it was said in the manga few times already, "the troupe doesn't steal for a profit". So, I bet, that's a nen condition, which Chrollo came up with later, when he first developed his nen ability - Skill Hunter.
Back in York New, the troupe without Chrollo stole the auction goods. And after that, Chrollo went to steal Neon's ability. Maybe stealing auction goods was requirement for Chrollo's skill hunter! They planned both of those events beforehand, so it's possible, that if Chrollo wants to steal an ability, then the troupe has to steal something valuable first.
If so, it makes sense, why Bonolenov said, that Chrollo plans to steal ability to end Hisoka for good. But we saw that, Chrollo actually plans to steal Kakin's treasure first. If it's requirement for Chrollo's skill hunter, it makes sense, why he's going for the treasures first. Upgrading Skill Hunter might be just adding new ability into it. Chrollo however, created his own upgrade - the bookmark, by setting more restictions on the Skill Hunter. However, is it really an upgrade? Isn't it more like additional ability. Like Pakunoda's memory bullets, or Hisoka's texture surprise? And we also know, that Chrollo plans to "steal" new ability, not create it. And even before Hisoka killed Shalnark and Kortopi, Spiders planned to steal Kakin's treasure. So, it's all part of plan from the begining. So, I bet that, stealing is another condition of the Skill Hunter. And if so, then that condition restricts it's use greatly... it means Chrollo can't steal suitable ability whenever he discovers one, but he has to steal something of the same value first each time.
However, Chrollo said, he plans to upgrade Skill Hunter, so his design of the spider will survive even, when he dies. So, it's possible, that the spider isn't just philosophy, like we thought, but a nen condition as well. That might explain, why Chrollo didn't ever suspected, that Hisoka consciously betrayed them. He didn't consider it to be an option, simply because it wasn't possible in the first place. All troupe's members got spider tattoos, it's an requirement to join the troupe, so maybe there's a nen condition set to it as well. A nen condition, that you can't go aganist the troupe, if you are part of it - if you have a tattoo. Hisoka's tattoo was fake, so he didn't had to follow that condition. No one suspected him, because no one new about texture surprise. And even now, after Hisoka's betrayal, Chrollo doesn't really mind Ilumi and Kaluto being in the troupe either, and isn't particulary concerned, that they might betray the troupe. Why is that? It's because if both of them got spider tattoos and nen condition, which comes with it, they can't betray them. It explains Chrollo's seemingly illogical actions to let a contracted assassins join the troupe. If Skill Hunter is tied to the Chrollo's design of the spider, it explains so many things! Even Machi's hunch that Chrollo wants Kurapika to join the troupe. That's completely illogical, but it would be possible if Kurapika got a tattoo and were unable to go agaist the troupe. Even when Chrollo was kidnapped they all questioned if they would betray spider by following Kurapika's orders, not if they betray Chrollo. So, betraying the spider is a taboo. Spider is something Chrollo designed. By being just legs of the spider responsibility of each member's actions is lessened they are legs who just follow will of the head. The head is the one who decides.
So, Chrollo choose to shoulder everything himself, basically. That's just exactly like he behaved, when he was little. The head vám be replaced though. Because the existence of the spider is more important than individuals. Because spider is protecting Meteor city. So legs and head are replaceble, but he has to ensure that those who replace them will still follow the same goal, that's why it's likely nen condition! There's no other way to be sure that replacements will still carry out spiders will...
So Chrollo designed spider as a nen condition, and the tattoos are part of it. And Chrollo is a specialist like Morena, so it's possible, that spider is similar to contagion and that's why, Phinks and Feitan were able to guess how Heil-ly gang leveling works so accurately. Because spider works simmilary when members with spider tattoos steal something valuable, it allows Chrollo to upgrade Skill Hunter - add ability into it, even though he didn't steal something valuable personally.
Being part of the spider, probably comes with some restriction each member has to obey. Which Chrollo designed that way to lessen responsibility of his friend's for horrible actions he planned to take in order to ensure safety of meteor city inhabitants and carring out revenge for Sarasa... and also for ensuring, that possible replacements will carry out his will, even if he or original members die. It's possible he plans to set post-mortem nen condition to Skill Hunter somehow, in case he dies. Because if it's really a nen condition, it disappears once he's dead...but it remains as philosophy as long as original members live. Maybe that was enough in York New. But now, when more members died, Chrollo wants to ensure that that nen condition remains even after his death.
Do GSB's not have any defenses against chemical or biological weapons? Seems like a work around to a lot of the limitations of the succession war.
Does Halkenburg's GSB persist after death? It was the engine behind the arrow ability, so I would guess it is following Basalmic around. The problem is that would make it easy for non princes to identify Halkenburg in another body.
In episode 85 of the anime, Kite handed Gon the hunter license but isn’t the hunter license made of synthetic material which is a huge nono? How did he sneak that in???
Talking with a friend, we realized that outside the main story and the dark continent there are a lot of "child" main characters left such as: Gon, Killua, Kite/Reina , Zushi.... Also, Togashi in the past has been very famous for skipping the main scenes without showing them, (often fighting scenes) to make a recap after the fact.
Our theory is that once the Succession War is over, most of the new characters introduced in this arc are completely wiped out in a second after they set foot in the dark continent to demonstrate the danger of the latter and that the story picks up many years later with adult Gon (foreshadowing) leaving for the dark continent to search for survivors and again, his father.
Togashi almost never did timeskips even in his earlier works, and I think it's very much like him to go overboard and surprise us as a 5- or even 10-year-old timeskip.
It would also have a way to reconnect Gon and Killua to the main story, thus not waiting for dozens of volumes of story development in the Dark Continent without him.
Per me know what you think!
I recently rewatched the anime and I realized that the eyes obtained in the Yorknew city auction were just copies made by Kortopi and I don’t think it’s ever mentioned that the eyes were fakes and whether or not Kurapika has recovered the real ones.
Do you guys think this is a plot hole or maybe it’s a Checkov’s gun for this (hopefully not) last Kurapika arc.
yusuke’s spirit pet, Pu! he’s so cute 😊
The world of hunter x hunter is honestly very unexplored when you look at it long enough. There are so many stories that could be told in a world like this. So I will ask, what side stories would you like to see? Some idea generators listed below:
° It can be about a existing character that you feel like a broader story can be told about.
° It can be about a particular group or organization like a vigilante group
° It can be mundane like a slice of life, where we just follow some regular person
° It can be about an event like a war or scientific discovery
Whatever you want just list it below with at least a little detail about what it is you are hoping to see. I'll go first with 2 of my own:
I would love to see a side story about Zushi's journey in becoming a floor master. Starting after Gon and Killua left but providing flashbacks regarding his motivation to pursue it.
I would also like to see story about the Shingen-Ryu style. Maybe follow a couple of disciples to get an understanding of the teaching method and their perspective on nen. Could even throw in a little conflict with another school.
Hunter x Hunter is full of memorable side characters, and Togashi has been quite brutal with them if you think about it. More than half of the colorful Nostrade bodyguards are killed unceremoniously in Yorknew. The Shadow Beasts all have cool and unique designs but most are killed off panel. My question is which of these jobber side characters who are unceremoniously killed off are your favorites? Mine are Kastro and Puhat. I remember being legitimately shocked when Kastro died my first time watching the 2011 anime. It felt like he was going to be an important side character the way he was introduced. And I just like the vibes of Puhat, he seemed like a fun guy. RIP 🙏
So I’ve recently started showing my sister hxh and she brought up a good point I’d never thought about. The heavens arena outro heavily features the phantom troupe, but they’re basically not in this arc at all, so why are they the outro? It wouldn’t bother me so much if I hadn’t noticed my HxH poster does the same thing. Why???
I watched the entire anime, but honestly hated most of the chimera ant arc (very boring to me) and barely understood meruem, a loved and central character. I have very few fond memories of the chimera ant arc and am wondering if its just my preference or because i didnt fully digest it. Always hated him, but by now i realize thats just because i didn’t understand his character well. Anyway, is it worth it to go back and reread the chimera ant arc because it gets hyped up so much, or should i just skip to the dark continent part of the manga?
hey so I just finished rewatching the anime and learnt ( thanks to this sub) that the hiatus was over. I'm starting to read the manga now and have a few questions.
are there plans for an anime adaptation for the new arcs?
how often are new chapters published?
how long did the hiatus last?
Not wanting to be pessimistic, but how would they manage to survive against creatures that made Netero give up on his exploration ambitions?
I can only imagine this group of characters surviving if they stick together 24/7: Tserriednich after completing his training, Beyond, all the Zodiacs, Ging, Pariston, Chrollo, and Hisoka.
Hisoka vs Zazane
Can't Shizuku just command Blinky to suck out the bungee gum if it gets stuck on her body? She was able to suck the poison mixed in Uvo's blood while keeping the blood intact. Why did Togashi state that it was a bad matchup.
Fragmented Soul
Fragmented Soul is a complex Nen ability developed by a Specialist with dissociative identity disorder. The user possesses five distinct personalities, each specializing in one of the five categories of Nen: Ichi (Strengthening), Ni (Emission), San (Manipulation), Yon (Transformation), and Go (Materialization). Each personality has absolute mastery over its respective category, but can also utilize the others, albeit with reduced abilities, as if they were regular Nen users.
1. Personality Switching:
When the user switches personalities, the new identity takes a few seconds to adapt to the environment and understand the situation on the battlefield. This delay is caused by the user's lack of immediate awareness of the events prior to the switch, creating a critical window of vulnerability.
2. Specialization and Limitation:
Each personality is exceptionally proficient in its own category of Nen, meaning that its abilities in that category are elevated to the maximum level of a specialist. However, the personalities can utilize the other four categories of Nen in a limited manner, as if they were regular users of those categories. They can perform basic techniques, but do not have access to the Hatsu of the other personalities. For example, Ichi, a Strengthening specialist, can use Emission or Manipulation, but does not have access to the advanced Ni or San techniques.
3. Prohibition of Lasting Abilities:
No Nen abilities can be maintained when switching personalities. Once a new personality takes over, all active Nen techniques from the previous one dissipate. This includes materialized objects, transformations, or any lingering effects. The need for an immediate switch means that the user must perform their actions efficiently, without relying on skills that require continuity.
4. Mental Fatigue:
Constantly switching personalities puts a strain on the user's mind. Each successive switch causes an increase in mental fatigue, resulting in a gradual decrease in efficiency and potentially increasing errors in skill execution. If too many exchanges are made in a short period of time, the user may suffer from mental breakdown or temporary loss of control of the personalities.
5. Personality Disconnection:
Each of the five personalities has its own goals, perspectives, and ways of acting, which can lead to internal conflicts. They do not always cooperate with each other efficiently, which leads to coordination problems during combat or in critical situations. Some personalities may hesitate or refuse to yield control to another, causing decisive delays. In addition, personalities may act in contradictory ways, compromising the strategy or ignoring essential information that the others have acquired. For example, Yon may refuse to hand over control to Go, even if the situation calls for a Materialization technique, or one personality may make decisions that go against the goals of the others, making it difficult to act effectively.
Secret Personality, Roku:
Roku When the user is on the brink of death, the sixth personality, Roku, emerges. Unlike the others, Roku is able to use all categories of Nen with full proficiency, accessing the Hatsu of all five personalities without the normal limitations. However, this power comes at a huge cost: using the Hatsu of other personalities consumes a drastically greater amount of Nen, draining his reserves much faster than normal.
Roku is a personality without emotions or defining traits, his only goal being survival at any cost. He acts coldly and calculatingly, eliminating enemies or fleeing without hesitation. Roku's way of wielding Nen makes him extremely dangerous in life-or-death situations, but prolonged use of this personality can cause severe Nen depletion.
Ichi (Strengthening):
Ichi is determined, courageous, and physically imposing. He values strength above all else and has a simplistic sense of justice, believing that problems can be solved with raw power. His approach is straightforward and practical, rarely engaging in complicated strategies or subterfuge. Ichi enjoys direct confrontations, relying on his resilience and ability to inflict heavy damage. He has a protective and stubborn personality, rarely relinquishing control to other personalities, believing that he is best suited to lead in physical combat. The Nen ability of Strengthening reflects his desire to protect, dominate, and survive through physical strength.
Ichi develops a defensive ability that reflects his protective instinct and his belief in resolving conflicts directly and without complications. The Armor of the Pacifist, Ichi's Nen automatically focuses on the area of his body that is about to be attacked, forming an extremely dense and reinforced layer of aura at that point. This defense is intuitive and precise, anticipating the trajectory of strikes based on the opponent's intention, ignoring feints or attempts at distraction. This ability of Ichi's forgoes the possibility of strengthening his attacks beyond the basic level that a Strengthening user can do. His entire aura is focused on defense, making him a nearly impenetrable bulwark, but incapable of unleashing devastating blows.
Ni (Emission):
Ni is impulsive, impetuous, and energetic. He moves with explosive speed, often acting before thinking. His personality reflects the volatility of Emission: fast, unpredictable, and high-impact. Ni has a carefree attitude and relies on quick, powerful attacks from a distance, being the most impatient of the personalities. He prefers to keep a safe distance from his opponents, attacking from afar, but can often act rashly, neglecting defense in favor of high-risk attacks. However, Ni is also witty and charismatic, with a tendency to have fun during fights, turning them into a kind of game for him. Ni channels his Emission aura to create small currents of energy around him, capable of influencing objects, attacks, and movements in the environment. With Flux, he manipulates the trajectory of projectiles, alters the balance of enemies, and dodges blows instinctively, making him extremely agile and difficult to hit. San (Manipulation): San is cunning, manipulative, and meticulous. He prefers to resolve conflicts without resorting to direct force, using complex and subtle strategies. San is the most calculating of the personalities, always seeking to influence the battlefield or the people around him indirectly. He is patient, sometimes excessively so, and enjoys manipulating situations and people to gain an advantage. His reliance on controlling the actions and emotions of others makes him dangerous in negotiations and in mental combat. San rarely takes unnecessary risks and always tries to minimize the cost of his actions, preferring long-term solutions. He can be morally ambiguous, as his main concern is control and power.
Yon (Transformation):
Yon is flexible, adaptable, and creative, reflecting the fluid nature of Transformation. He sees the world as changeable and believes that the key to victory is the ability to change as needed. Yon is the most unpredictable of the personalities, with a combat style that mixes physical and magical attacks, surprising opponents with constant changes of tactics. He is an inventive strategist, willing to try new methods and adapt quickly to different challenges. Although he is versatile and has a positive attitude towards experimentation, his lack of focus can make him inconsistent and disorganized in high-pressure situations.
Go (Materialization):
Go is introverted, methodical, and deeply imaginative. He has a pragmatic view of the world, focusing on creating tangible and efficient solutions to any problem he faces. Go enjoys planning and analysis, being the most perfectionist of the personalities. He is disciplined and results-oriented, preferring to work quietly and alone, without distractions. His Materialization ability reflects his obsession with order and control, creating the perfect tools and objects for every situation. However, his tendency to get lost in details can make him overly cautious and hesitant, leading to delays when quick action is needed.
Roku (Secret Personality):
Roku is completely devoid of emotion and attachment, functioning solely for the purpose of survival. He acts in an extremely cold and rational manner, without any trace of compassion or hesitation. Unlike the other personalities, Roku cares nothing for honor, justice, or morality—his only concern is eliminating the threat or escaping death. He is incredibly proficient in combat, utilizing all categories of Nen to perfection, but at a high cost in energy. Roku is dangerous not only for his technical proficiency, but also for his complete indifference to any life other than his own. His emergence represents the user's ultimate crisis, a last resort where all limits are abandoned.
Would this be a bad match up for the clown?
I’m not sure what’s going on with him I remember reading that he was a culmination of the other spider’s personality but idk if that was literal. He seems kinda bipolar like when he’s finished fighting the zoldics he’s a goofy guy then he will go back to being all emo and talking about what’s his reason for killing (which I’m still a bit confused by) he’s a great character and it’s totally fine for it not to be explained but I haven’t read the old chapters in a min so just wondering tysm
From what I understand he’s not aware of them being on the boat but even if he was I feel like he wouldn’t go out of his way to kill them partly because of the war but also cause maybe he moved on a bit idk lmk if I’m a idiot
I fully understand the frustration and rage of Gon, and I don't think it is unnecessary and makes him a monster. Because it is implied that when he saw komugi lying there with pitou, he see Kite being tortured meaning he thinks pitou is torturing komugi and turning her into monster or like a puppet. That is why I think he wants Pitou to stay away from the human. Also, it is understandable that when he hears pitou to wait for a fight he is frustrated, because Pitou didn't wait when he attack Kite and turned him into a puppet. Pitou was reading a book and intelligent, it is impossible that Pitou doesn't know about human emotion at that point, Pitou only became empathetic because Pitou was ordered by Mereum. If Mereum didn't ordered Pitou to heal Komugi I doubt that Pitou will heal Komugi.
At the end of the day, Gon at that moment is clouded by his trauma, the scare that Pitou's aura gave a glimpse of what torture did Kite endour and that is the image engraved in Gon's mind, making it traumatic for a KID. Also, I know what he said to Killua hurts and it also hurt me, but I do think Gon is too vulnerable that time and Killua handled Gon well considering the pain he is enduring caused by a friend.
Morena Prudo, Oil on canvas
Frankly, the way it is, I think Togashi will keep his word that Kurapika will die along with the troupe before the story ends.
Firstly, the card game literally ticks every condition Chrollo needs to steal the ability other than the hand over book(which he can request in the card game).
Also the leveling system works perfectly for a group like the Phantom Troupe. The dog man sniffed Chrollo, so then meeting is almost guaranteed.
The only thing that’s making me believe it won’t happen is the fact that the Phantom Troupe would be too OP. It offers the Growth ability similar to the Chimera Ants, so they would have to all die in the Ship to avoid power issues for future arcs(definitely possible considering Hisoka, Beyond, and the Chaos).
This is a list of most characters that we know the nen type of. Some of these are marked as non canon confirmed by a dashed outline, which are cases from less trustworthy sources such as the databooks or the Hunterpedia preview at the end of the 2011 anime episodes. Please let me know if I missed anything here.
Note: the 3 numbers on each type in the image are: (Total number of Characters in Nen Type, Number of only "Canon-Confirmed" ones, and number of ones introduced in the current arc) respectively.
It is very notable that we are getting lots of new Conjurers and Emitters in the current arc, mainly due to the Hei-ly. We are also getting more Specialists than usual.
The number of Transmuters in general is surprisingly low (only 8 canon-confirmed in total). On the other side the numbers of Enhancers and Emitters are very relatively high. which is to be expected.
Despite the very low number of Transmuters, a lot of them are high on fan likeability, For example: if we go by the MAL fan favorite characters, the 1st and 2nd most favorited in HxH are Transmuters (Killua, Hisoka), and in top 10, 3 are Transmuters (with the inclusion of Feitan). The nen type on the opposite side, Manipulation, seems to have no top 10 fav characters at all, and the first character (Illumi) is overall the 12th most favorited in HxH.
Phantom Troupe members seem to have nice variety, having members from all Nen types: (3 En, 3 Tr, 2 Co, 2Sp, 3Ma, 1Em).
If Illumi successfully implanted a needle in Meruem, could he overpower and fully control him, or would the level of control depend on the target's total aura? Can Meruem resist control?
