i just started working in hualien, near the beach and nightmarket, ive only been here for 3 days, but its seems so difficult to make friends here. my coworkers are all busy when im free vice versa, and they dont really seem down to hang out anyways (they’re a bit older). i moved here from new york, and am planning on staying for at least 2-3 months, but the social culture its a bit different than i expected. im usually pretty outgoing and friendly, and im used to making friends really quickly instead of gradually over time. i think thats a bit offputting to people here. i guess its a little early to really tell, but i feel so alone, i wish i could have at least one person to eat with or discover new places with. if im going anywhere to meet new people, id have to do it alone which is a bit of a daunting task for me, especially since my chinese is just okay. anyhow, if anyone has any recommendations for places i can go to meet some cool folks that would be neat:). thanks!
Hi everyone, I’m planning a two-day trip around Hualien on a scooter and would love some suggestions on the best places to visit. At present, we all know that Taroko Gorge is closed due to an earthquake, and several roads and tunnels have been damaged after the Gaemi typhoon as well. Given these conditions, does anyone have ideas on what else I can explore now? I’m looking for a mix of nature, culture, and local experiences. Any must-see spots, hidden gems, or great food recommendations would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help!
Hey I just arrive to Hualien I was wondering if anyone can show me and buddy around I am a male 26 .please and thank you
Hey all,
We're due to come to Hualien next week and was wondering if anyone has any advice on what to do post earthquake.
As far as I can tell, Taroko national park is closed?????
And seems like the highway roads (highway road 8) has limited access around certain times.
Assuming this is all true, any recommendations on things to do in the area that avoid all the post earthquake procedures?
Thanks
Visiting for chinese new year and looking forward to trying some food places!
Hualien City, Ji'An recommendations are welcome!
I was walking up Heping road from the seaside when all of a sudden an aggressive, guard dog breed ran out of the front yard and ran across the road to greet me.
Should I report this to the police? Will they even care? I'm scared this dog could kill a child or someone. Any advice greatly appreciated.
I sincerely hope that someone sees this and can help me find out where these poor people being forced to run the crypto scams are being kept.
This is sickening and I can’t believe this shit still happens in 2023.
anybody want to split a Klook tour or private hire driver? :)
i'm alone :) or otherwise would be helpful to find ways to beat the crowds and crowded tour buses to do some hikes alone. i'm not sure i'm comfortable to rent a motorbike, nor a car, and would like to do for example:
not sure if it's common the tours or driver will allow you to hike alone for an hour or three? just sending out some inquiries now...
I visit Hualien regularly and sometimes in the morning if I visit the Rocky Beach I can see the fighter jets take off. But I haven't seen that in a few years. Does anyone have a rough time I should be at the beach if I want to see that?
They are never on schedule, and even the electronic boards aren't accurate at all.
I've had to wait like 20 minutes every time I want to catch a bus in the city
Just wanted to vent lol. Great food here tho 👍
