Hsinchu Firefighters, please help!

Hello! My name is Kim. I am an EMT in Colorado, USA, and my fiance is a firefighter.

My great-grandfather helped form the first volunteer fire department there in Hsinchu, that later became the municipal department, and then the museum. I believe his picture hung in the museum. I am hoping that one of you is or knows a local firefighter who can help me contact the museum organizers, or department historian. I want to share my family's history with my soon-husband, and maybe trade station shirts/patches.

Thank you for any help you can give!

Any interest in a Terry Pratchett book club?

I’m open to discuss any of Pratchett’s work, but hope for a chance to hear Asian scholars’ thoughts on Interesting Times. Interested in a meetup in June.

Can I live here without a scooter?

I am considering getting a job here in hsinchu but I would not like to learn to drive a scooter in Taiwan. Is this doable? I don’t care about night life or seeing lots of things but I also hate cooking and like to order lots of take out.

Edit: I have been living here a week. So far I like my area but damn I didn’t realize why no one walks here and everyone has a scooter. It’s because it is not pedestrian friendly. Cars park on the only places you can walk. It’s a shame cuz I love walking. Oh well it is still livable especially with Uber eats!!

New Mods, New Sub

Hi everyone. This sub now has new mods in charge and we stopped the spamming automod(hopefully). This is just a soft launch of what we hope will be a hub for those that live and work in Hsinchu.

We hope soon to have a nice sidebar with lots of information relating to things to do here. Let's see how long that takes.

If you would like to contribute, leave a comment to this post.
