I'm on a serious fight with Bluehost now.

**4 Feb update - BBB informed me that Bluehost/Newfold Digital have very high volume of complaints and they have not received a response from them for long. And BBB recommended I file my case with the FBI’s Internet Crime Complaint Center (IC3).

Bluehost charged me $8,707 on January 27th. When I noticed the charge, I immediately contacted them. They assured me I’d get a refund within 3-5 days after my payment was received by Bluehost and advised me to wait. Then, after they captured my money, they turned around and refused to refund it. They claimed it was now "non-refundable"—even though they had already confirmed the refund.

Here’s what happened:

• January 27 – I intended purchase a domain on Bluehost. Unlike other purchase, there was also no transaction notification, no OTP, code nor anything needed me to input to verify, I didn’t receive any immediate confirmation. So I thought the purchase failed and it was late night so i thought to try again next day.
• January 28 morning about 11am – I was about to pay my credit card and saw this enormous $8,707 charge from Bluehost, this amount was nothing close to what I clicked for.
• The payment was "pending" at that time , and I immediately contacted Bluehost. They confirmed that my payment had NOT been received yet and that the domain was not yet purchased from Bluehost, they sent me screenshots to proof that. They advised to wait till the payment received by Bluehost, so their billing team could verify the payment, and then process the refund. They told me to wait for 3-5 days for the refund.
• Jan 28 11:36PM - I received a payment confirmation of $8,707 domain purchase, 2mins after I received email said that the domain transferred to my account. I was naive and thought it was their process for refund, just like they said they need to have my money settled first so to carry the refund process. So I waited as instructed.
• January 30 – I contacted them again to check on the refund status. Now this was shocking, they claimed that the domain was now registered under my name, and the charge was non-refundable.

That’s when I realized that Bluehost had tricked me. They set me up into waiting—just so they could capture the money asap, quickly register the domain to my name and transfer it into my account, and then once all done, they said it's non reversible now, using this as excuse denying the refund.

ok this wasn’t a simple refund denial—this was deception. They knew they wouldn’t plan to refund me as promised, but they misled me into believing otherwise so I wouldn’t dispute the charge earlier.

Actually I was talking with my bank to dispute this wrong charge when I found it on 28th morning, but since Bluehost told me they gonna refund, so I naively believed them so I told my bank it's ok, the vendor would refund...

By the time they changed their back, the money is already in their pocket, domain was registered to my name, and transferred to my account, making harder for me to fight back.

The Fight

I'm very disappointed and angry about the whole sh-t. I’ve since filed a chargeback with my bank, the money is froze now; I also filed complaints with the FTC, BBB, and ICANN, with detailed timeline, chatlog screenshots, delayed payment confirmation, missing bank notification record etc.

BBB was very quick responding and already pressed Bluehost and their mother company (Newfold Digital ) to respond my case. So now there was someone from Bluehost asked my account pin and investigated my case.

I’ll keep fighting - this company should not sit there giggling. If you experienced the same or similar, fight back!

I have 2 oracle cloud free tier servers though oracle blocks all email related ports on them, i saw that ionos has very cheap VPSes but i've heard some bad experiences, can anyone help me out?

I'm working on a project where I need to host multiple components:

1. a website (e.g. Wordpress) as the entry point for users
2. a learning management system (LMS) like Moodle
3. a community forum like Discourse
4. a few cloud functions (simple Python scripts that you call through an API)

Initially, the number of visitors is expected to be small (max a few dozen a day), but expected to grow over time. (We all dream big... .) Also, all these resources should ideally appear under the same domain, like:

• example.com (for the website itself, e.g. Wordpress)
• example.com/learn (for the LMS, e.g. Moodle)
• example.com/community (for the community, e.g. Discourse)
• example.com/api/v1/my_func (for the cloud functions)

I would prefer managed services so that I don't have to take care of everything myself, but costs sum up a lot and compute resources cannot be shared in this way thus generating unnecessary costs. Also, I might need some customizations for community forum such that it can call the cloud function. What would you recommend here that is reliable and does not eat up my budget? Getting a virtual VM (e.g. Digital Ocean)? Renting a Docker cluster somehow, where each application runs in a Docker container? Managed services nonetheless and trying to tweak the DNS entries such that users don't notice they are navigating to different providers? I am a software engineer myself, so I know software development, but maintaining infrastructure is not so much my cup of tea, and I would prefer to keep things simple.

I'm a girl who doesn't really do this (as it seems many here do) so I've tried to educate myself as much as possible about terms and such things.

I've spent hours researching which could be the best host option to create my blog with quite a few articles (I'm a writer by profession) and that maybe later on it will also serve as a platform to sell my digital products.

The thing is that I foresee a large monthly audience in the future (50k-100k) and from all the opinions and information I've seen these have been my 3 finalists.

My doubt is mainly because, although it seems that AWS lightsail is cheaper (I already know how to do most of the corresponding configurations), I fear that with all the uploading of information and visits it will end up being much more expensive in the end.

(By the way, I also plan to monetize it with ads). I really appreciate your experienced opinions

Which hosting is best one for e-commerce ?

My final aim is i click backup on my mobile phone and then those backuped images or contacts goes to my hard disk (through nextcloud) and on the same time, i can access this hard disk in my other windows laptop or in my ubuntu through GUI

Problem: So many people have told me to install Nextcloud All-in-One : Docker compose one So i tried installing it (since i am not a technical person, i asked chatgpt to explain certain terms) So i installed docker correctly with docker compose plugin then i ran this command (as given in documentation)

For Linux and without a web server or reverse proxy (like Apache, Nginx, Caddy, Cloudflare Tunnel and else) already in place:

and then it correctly opens the instance , which i then open using (my ip adress:8080) it is asking me to add domain name luckily, i did have domain name, so i did go to my domain setting page and added a DNS record Type = A, Name = cloud, Point to = my ip adress (IP4 address)

and then i did check with dnd propogation sites such as dnscheckerdotorg orwww.whatsmydnsdotnet

but when i write cloud.[domain_name].com Next cloud is showing error as Error coming as The domain is not reachable on Port 443 from within this container. Have you opened port 443/tcp in your router/firewall? If yes is the problem most likely that the router or firewall forbids local access to your domain. You can work around that by setting up a local DNS-server.

I am looking for recommendations for hosting a counter-strike source game server with around 30 players on average but up to 64. Doesn't matter if it's bare metal or a vps but I am looking for something on the cheaper side since a 20 years old game probably doesn't need an overkill server. Any suggestions as to where I can move a dozen or so dedicated cPanel servers? Ideally within Canada but also flexible and can do be in US. Don’t need much support, just remote hands now and then, I can even handle all of the cPanel licensing directly. Didn’t have a great experience with GloboTech, so they aren’t an option.

LONG OVERDUE. I have had it with feckin' GoDaddy. I have been a client so long that I have a 5 digit account number...since 99. I have almost 200 domains with them. I've hated them for a long time, but most of my clients are on GoDaddy and it's just been easier. But I've had enough! You can't disable their free crap when you buy a domain anymore, and cancelling is multi step thing involving at least one email click per cancellation.

I am looking for a recommendation to move everything out. All of it. Preferably in one easy action. I have heard good things about CloudFlare domains. They seem like a reputable company and they aren't going to go away anytime soon. I'm looking for a new home for my domains that's easy to use. I'm certainly not a novice having built literally thousands of websites over 20 years - but I don't want a crappy AI with too many clicks to do simple stuff.

i've been using cpanel/whm on a vps from godaddy for the past 6 years, and as of the last 5 or 6 months, we've been having a lot of problems with email deliverability, mainly due to poor ip reputations from godaddy, but the thing is, they mainly use relay servers to send the emails, so even though our own ip is not on some rbl, one of their relay servers ip is, which is causing us a lot of trouble, mainly with gmail and hotmail/outlook/live domains (but also several other personal/local domains), they are outright rejecting basically everything we send, and we have no control whatsoever over this relay server/ip

so i've been looking into alternatives, google cloud actually has a more affordable option than what we currently pay for godaddy, as we don't need a resources heavy vps, only a somewhat bigger storage, around 500gb, and we have around 10 cpanel accounts/domains, so i'd appreciate any other options

besides google, i've looked into azure (way more expensive), aws lightsail, digital ocean (also more expensive) and hostinger (didn't like some things i've read about it)

our domains are registered directly with our country's registrar, and more recently we handed our website to a third party to manage, we only point to their server's ip in our dns zone, so we mainly need it for email usage

also, does anyone have experience migrating emails from one host to another from different companies? we actually migrated to a different server whiting godaddy some years ago, but their support actually handled almost everything (in fact, they did without even contacting us, pretty damn weird, but thankfully everything went well)

So I have been hosting on namecheap for a while and decided to try other companies. I didy due research online and inMotion host seems to be one with a good review.

I tried to purchase a domain and shared hosting package from them as usual. Payment became issue as all my cards were rejected (I mean all my banks I use to purchase online). Had a conversation with the customer service and was told to try different cards. Still no success in purchasing as it indicates "bank reject order". Finally, I got my cousin's PayPal account and I connected my card, which I used for the payment.

About three days later, I'm unable to log in to my account. I made a contact again, customer service told me I was sent a mail to activate my account. (Really, hosting account to be verified by sending government ID?), checked my spam folder and yeah, the mail was tjere. I was wondering why would a hosting company demand that (with my 6 years experience in hosting and web development), but I needed the service to attend to a client so I went ahead.

After three days, I got a mail that I requested a refund, which I don't remember doing. I got a refund from them and they have refused to release the client's domain name. Did several follow up, but later I got informed that there was a fraudulent activity on my account hence the need to refund and terminate my subscription with them. How about the domain, they say until a year for it to be released. Really? How about the client I'm working for? Is personal brand that is locked up with them.

I then did a review on trust pilot, only for me to go back to check if there's a response to my review and to find out my review has been deleted by trust pilot. How would they do such a thing? I am getting to understand not all reviews are genuine over there. I was really surprised they did so and replaced it with a 5 star review.

Anyone got such experience from both?

So I upgraded my hosting plan with BH from Basic to Plus for a modest price as per screenshot below and was told that I would have 1 year free backups which is also advertised on their website! I noticed that the backups are not enabled and enquired with support only to be told I need to pay for a restore - so what am I getting for free when I can do a server side backup?!

I we shall be required soon to relocate our servers (eGaming, e-commerce business) to Argentina due to local compliance. Our setup is currently in Latvia at delska and runs on 2 dell servers we own. Set up is Linux virtual servers and windows servers for sql server DB. Nothing incredible but our local CTO indicated that no datacenters in Buenos Aires or Argentina will fit our needs. Any thoughts on this ? It seems totally crazy for me to host in Brazil or chile instead of Argentina !

I have a strange issue that I've never managed to get to the bottom of. I have a number of websites with email addresses, all hosted on a TSOHost server using IMAP. Every one of my email addresses has a roughly 5 minute delay on receiving emails (sometimes more, sometimes less).

This isn't an issue at all until it comes to doing confirmation codes, at which point it becomes a total nightmare as they often time out before I receive a code.

The emails are otherwise fairly consistent, although i have noticed that sending emails from another address on the same server is instant. Does anyone have any hints as to what might cause this?

• Current setup: BlueHost -> WordPress -> ShowIt (and Google WorkSpace for emails)
• This is for a relatively simple photography & videography services website that shows our Portfolio and has a Contact Form.
• Open to switching off WordPress and/or Hosting and/or Registrar if there are some super compelling reasons (such as speed, SEO, simplicity, etc).

I have a VPS and am also very happy with it. But there has been a problem for a few days now. I have reinstalled the server and have not installed any special programs. But there is constant traffic coming in between 3Mbit/s and 6Mbit/s even though I'm not downloading anything or anything. The server is idle. What could this be? A DDoS attack or another attack? What can I do about it?

I’ve almost lost my entire web business due to their technicians’ incompetence—they lack even basic skills, and I often find myself knowing more than they do. I believe the company was sold in 2023, and the experienced technicians seem to have left, replaced by offshore support staff. Does anyone have recommendations for a reliable server company?
