So I have been playing through Zero Dawn again with the remaster and absolutely loving it. I noticed that a game of Machine Strike can be found in the Hunter’s Lodge. Was that always a thing in the original game that then got fleshed out more in Forbidden West or was it added for the remaster?
About 6 months ago, I saw these games at a local store and felt oddly drawn to them. I didn’t know much about them at all. I looked at them but didn’t buy. I kept looking at them when I stopped by the store a couple times a week and I finally got Zero Dawn.
Wow!! What a fun game! Combat is fun, hard, requires patience and timing, but absolutely winnable although I do break a sweat sometimes against those Thunderjaws or a herd (flock?) of Longlegs. Story line is great too. I was blown away. I completed ZD.
I then got FW. 9 hours and 57 minutes into the game, Aloy stood at the entrance to the Forbidden West itself and I realized that this was a Moment. It is the exciting moment in a video game when the plot finally starts and you don’t know how it will progress. Very exciting indeed! But I was a little sad too. I know that this moment won’t happen again. Replaying games is always fun but never have that same excitement of facing the unknown.
So I took a few moments looking over Aloy’s shoulder at the mist covered land ahead, looking at the arms of a Titan emerging from the mist, and watching a Tallhead lumber in the distance. I took a deep breath, and directed Aloy to start running towards the unknown dangers of the Forbidden West to save the world.
Recently picked up HZD to see PS5 Pro in all its glory. I started the story and here’s some thoughts:
What I liked
What I didn’t like and looking for thoughts if it gets better
Does the story get any better or it’s largely going to be surface level like this throughout? For context, I am playing this right after RDR2 and that felt very layered and engaging including the cutscenes.
They also had Varl, but had to get our homegirl.
Ganestop, if curious. Varl was only $34, this Aloy was a deluxe one that comes with a bunch of stuff
Anybody notice how awful the hair/beard physics appear in the remaster cutscenes for most characters? Aloy’s hair here for example looks like it’s crossing an invisible barrier into her body which takes so much from the immersion and can’t be ignored. Hope there is a patch soon.
I've completed the PS4 version years ago and have platinum-ed to death HFW, so I know my way around the games. Am playing my first run of the Remaster on hard, which feels about right. I'm about to head to Daytower for the first time and I'm a few points short of level 31...anyone else spending waaaaay to much time killing machines because I think I might be..🤣
It took me about 60 hours...3. How long does this game actually take to beat on average?
I’m replaying Zero Dawn as i’m sure most everyone is or playing it for the first time and I was thinking back to when I first played and thought sawtooths were going to be the biggest problem in the game. I thought that a different tribe was using them to destroy our tribe and that would be the focus of the game. Did anyone else think that the game was going to be something completely different on your first playthrough?
I honestly didn’t really look for new machines my first playthrough and got tackled by a snapmaw and was so confused because I genuinely thought all the other machines would be nice and sawtooths just weren’t. I learned quick.
This is a comment I made on one of the posts here, but I thought some of you might find this little guide useful so I decided to post it.

If I can reignite your passion a little, Ultra Hard mode is actually pretty easy if you have the right gear. You can definitely get that trophy—it’s one of the easiest “hardest difficulty” trophies there is. Here’s what worked for me:
General Setup Tips
1. Gear Up: Get all the Hunter’s Lodge weapons and modify them with the best coils you can find during your first or second playthrough.
2. Pouch Upgrades: Upgrade your resources satchel, your potions pouch and you arrows pouches to full capacity
3. Ancient Armor: Get the Shield-Weaver armor (the one that recharges).
4. Main Missions Only: Focus solely on the main missions during your Ultra Hard run unless you want some practice or extra resources.
Getting the gear might take a while, but once you have the right setup, the Ultra Hard trophy is a breeze.

My Loadout for Ultra Hard:
Banuk Striker Bow (Left of the Wheel)
• Where to Get: Costs 16 Bluegleam in the DLC.
• Mods: • +44% Tear Coil • +43% Damage Coil • Untested Weapon Coil: +51% Damage, +35% Tear, +35% Fire
This bow is versatile and great for most situations, which is why it’s my main weapon. You can get all the mods just by playing the game and doing side missions—especially in the DLC, since those give the best rewards. Make sure you gather your coils BEFORE starting Ultra Hard.
———
Banuk Champion Bow (Bottom of the Wheel)
• Where to Get: Costs 12 Bluegleam in the DLC.
• Mods: • Drummer’s Weapon Coil: +51% Freeze, +35% Shock, +35% Corruption • Painted weapon coil: +51% Shock, +35% Fire, +47% Handling
I honestly don’t use this bow much because I always forget about it, but it’s still ridiculously strong. And it’s great for elemental damage.
———
Shadow Sharpshot Bow (Right of the Wheel)
• Where to Get: I don’t remember exactly, but it’s hands-down the best weapon against machines.
• Mods: • +45% Tear Coil • +40% Tear Coil • Untested Weapon Coil: +51% Damage, +35% Tear, +35% Fire
I’ve probably killed hundreds of Thunderjaws with this thing. It’s by far my favorite weapon for machines.
———
Adept Lodge Blast Sling (Top of the Wheel)
• Where to Get: Hunter’s Lodge.
• Mods: • +44% Damage Coil • +43% Damage Coil (x3)
• +43% Damage Coil (again) • +42% Damage Coil
This is my personal favorite weapon because it’s so quick to use and works on just about anything. It’s also great damage if you’re lazy. I went all-in on damage mods for maximum destruction.
———
Sylens’ Lance (Spear)
• Mods: • +26% Spear Damage Coil • +24% Spear Damage Coil
I love this spear so much—it makes melee attacks insane. I’ve literally walked up to a downed Stormbird and finished it off with just melee strikes.

This setup probably won’t suit everyone, but it’s what worked for me. It might take a while to get the same upgrades, especially since I’ve played this game over five times, but it’s worth it. Don’t give up. Get that platinum and the 100% trophy completion—you’ve got this!
The difficulty modifiers an difficulty setting in the Remaster will not change for me. Main menu or in game. It says "Note: This option can only be adjusted in game"
I have no idea how to change this. I imported a NG+ save, but dont wanna sit on easy mode the whole game. Anyone else have these issues? ( i know there are a ton with this Remaster, typical sony)
Hello guys, I have a huge problem with textures not loading in in the background of npc‘s while I‘m talking to them. It‘s really annoying and ruins the experience. I would provide a picture but the bots here don‘t allow it apparently
I just got the remaster recently and I'm enjoying the art, gameplay and world. But I'm a few hours in and the dialogue is really bad. Does it improve as the game goes on?
All the dialogue so far has been very exposition heavy with people talking in stilted ways to explain everything to you as if Aloy wouldn't know half of this stuff already.
Every character is so insanely sincere and nice when they speak. They're all blown away by how cool and awesome and kind and badass Aloy is and they're not shy about saying it out loud, they also all have the purest of intentions and want only to help others. Aloy herself is feeling very much like a Mary Sue trope at the moment too.
The only exceptions so far have been the evil characters who are so cartoonishly bad and have no understandable reason to be that way. They're just assholes because they're inherently evil and bad people, there's no real depth to any of the characters so far. The only character I've actually found interesting so far has been Olin because of he's neither fawning over Aloy nor being unreasonably rude to her.
It feels like the dialogue was aimed at children. Considering the praise this game gets I was expecting more.
Hi everyone, I'm not sure if anyone is also having the same issue but, I'm not able to redeem particular tokens that you get when you start the game. I've redeemed 3 of them but can't with the rest.
I can't redeem the: Carja storm ranger outfit, Banuk trailblazer outfit, Carja mighty bow and the Banuk culling bow.
Whenever I'm at merchant they just don't show up in the treasure box section.
Please help if you know a fix! Thank you
Would side quest where you help to find shipping manifest for Quen play any part in Horizon 3?
How come the game never talks about them? The story very much treats Elisabet as Aloys mother but she isnt her mother. Spiritually she might be but in a biological sense Elisabets mother is Aloys mother, Elisabets father is Aloys father.
Now i suspect the answer will either be "we dont know" or "Elisabet was an orphan" but im gonna ask anyways,
Is there any info on Elisabets and Aloys parents?
Hello everyone,
I have the problem, that sometimes when I aim, concentration activates automatically. But only when I aim near enemies. Is this supposed to be?
Thanks in advance!
Did the remaster change some of the music? Like, it's not all different but I feel like meridian's theme is different, maybe even gone? Sometimes I still catch it but is it intertwined with new music, now? It's been a while since I played the original so maybe I'm mistaken but I loved the music and I would sometimes just go chill in meridian for a little while and listen but I don't quite get that feeling anymore.
Not Sure what to do
I can get the Haptics to work on a normal PS5 controller
but as soon as I use my Edge it stops
I get vibration and the sound of the bow in the speaker and the other sounds just fine
I am wired in
Steam input off
Audio Output is on
Haptics work on other games (So I know they aren't broken)
Can anyone assist me here, I am at a loss
Hey everyone, I started playing horizon zero dawn (not the remastered) The game runs fine with 70 -80 fps even reaching 100 sometimes but it drops fps for a second and then come to normal,if a lock it to 40 then for a second it goes to 38 and then back to normal even if I lock it at 30 it still drops to 28 29 which creates a lag or stoppage which is very irritating and it happens no matter at which graphics I play even if I lower the graphics or anything at all so I think it is not the system specs it's something else.help me if you can.
System specs: Ryzen 7 4800h Rtx 3050 mobile(4gb vram) 16 gb ddr4 ram And 1 tb ssd
The textures of the Banuk Ice Hunter costume tremble in the HZD remastered. I'm just wondering if I can wait for a fix in future patches, or if this issue is just me?
This was not fixed in the previous patch, so I wonder if anyone else has experienced a similar issue.
and then later after the fight again:
Was playing just fine for an hour or so and then suddenly as I'm fighting a Sawtooth, this happens for the first time ever.
The game acts as if I Alt+Tabbed out without the game minimizing or anything. My controller didn't even disconnect but the menu just pops up and I can't do anything until I put my controller down and use my mouse to click anywhere on the screen and then I can use my controller again.
And then it happens again. And again. And again. With about a 30-40 seconds in between each time. This has never happened before. I was getting game crashes every 1.5 hours last night but instead of that today, it's this.
Does this happen to anyone else?
I've just completed the Repair and Override the Tallneck quest in HZD Frozen Wilds (Remaster) and the scrap-piles inside the tallneck's path-loop usually have purple (very rare) modifications ...and I collect them, go quicksave at the nearest bonfire, return and the scrap piles have spawned more modifications. I can keep collecting more and more. (Quicksave is probably not related - just getting a distance away from piles is probably enough)
I don't recall if this was a thing in original HZD, or if it's a thing all over the game and I only just now noticed because these particular scap piles have purple in them. I get the feeling that saving and loading (respawning the world) might be handled slightly differently in the remaster but I'm not sure.
(The question I'm asking now is, is it worthwhile to farm this, knowing that I'm not only making things unfun by grinding repetitively instead of playing, but also destroying the lure and value of purple mod rewards for the rest of the game?)
I think maybe just one more collection pass, then on with the game. I can quit any time I want! :)
Much to my own embarrassment last night was on top of a high cliff and jumped forgetting that I DO NOT HAVE A GLIDER in Zero Dawn...... I got so used to that I literally forgot that I do not have it in this game.
Having said that Aloy's death animations were funny. I did this twice in different locations.
This is gonna be a hot issue for some people as Talanah is very popular and I admit I like her too but can't help but think she's a bit overrated by fans and inside the game because for everything you do with her Aloy does most of the hard work and the monster killing yet she gets the credits and praise.
does this mean the level is required for the mission? or the recommended level
Based on his lines during their duel on the mesa (Cause for Concern - Farewell quest). Did you guys spare or kill him this time around?
