A place to find other redditors in the Hinesville GA area. There is already a subreddit for Savannah, but for some of this it's a bit far to travel.

Welcome to the Hinesville Area Subreddit! Feel free to post for meetups, find friends, make a book club or sell things locally (without getting crazies from craigslist) or find homes for stray cats!

I need to rent a cow.

I am a commercial producer in the Savannah area and I might need to rent a cow for a commercial. Are there any cow-owners who might be willing to assist? Here's what the gig would entail: -Transportation of the cow to/from the site -Up to three hours on downtown Savannah location (not including travel time) -Assistance with cow management (needs to stand/sit still for periods of time and be comfortable around people) -Payment negotiable. -Dairy cow preferred.

Anybody have solar panels?

How did they do during the storm? Did they break? Did they help? Worth the investment?

Hiking near Hinesville

I thought I'd make this list of places to hike near Hinesville for those who may not know about these areas. Hiking doesn't have to include mountains, it can be just be a nice walk in the woods! There's plenty of places to go around here, but I kept the list to locations within 60 miles.

Some are small and not the most ideal places to hike because of size, but you can check out the size and availability of roads on line and topo maps of each wildlife management area here: http://www.georgiawildlife.com/maps/hunting/region7

I've hiked on the trails at Holbrook a lot and like it there, but I like Griffin Ridge WMA between Jesup and Ludowici better. I've hunted there a few times (squirrels) and gone hiking, and it's really nice and quiet. A great place to go that's close enough that it's an easy drive. I go past the road that has the "Griffin Ridge Nature Trail" sign and park at the next road down, by the dumpster on the side of 84, and walk in past the DNR equipment shelter.

Even if the gate is closed you can walk in through the gap beside the gate. Deer season hasn't yet started, but squirrel season already has, so if you go to a WMA to hike at this time of year you're going to want to wear blaze orange in order to signal to any hunters in the area that you are not some delicious creature to be shot (though they should be confirming their target before firing, of course). I have a blaze orange vest.

I've also been hiking at Big Hammock WMA and it's very pretty there. There's a shooting range, so my husband shot while I went walking down the road adjacent to the range. I'm planning on going to Harris Neck NWR as soon as it reopens after the government shutdown.

At the state parks, you pay a $5 parking fee, but at WMAs you need to have a GORP or Georgia Outdoor Recreation Pass. The exception is Griffin Ridge WMA, it's free to go there (it was made an exception due to low visitation). You don't need a GORP if you are 15 or under, 65 or older, or have a valid WMA License, Honorary License, Sportsman's License, Lifetime License, or 3-Day Hunting and Fishing License. These passes are inexpensive and help fund our struggling DNR.
