Recently, I was reading a review online of Hey Arnold, and the person mentioned that Hey Arnold's biggest problem is that it has a lot of recycled plot lines and then they went on to say it has even more recycled plots than modern Spongebob.
How many episodes are really just recycled plots?
Also, it's pretty silly to compare Hey Arnold to modern Spongebob. Season 5 of HA has its problems for sure, but at least the show still had a pretty solid run and didn't endlessly drag on.
The baseball team in Hillwood was called the Black Sox. Maybe a play on the scandal of 1919. Or just another socks color team like the red and white ones lol. Stadium called Quigley, kinda like Wrigley. Mickey Kaline, combo of Mickey Mantle and Al Kaline. So yeah anyways, only Craig B. would know for sure what things like pro sports exist as they are in the real world in the Hey Arnold universe. But in my FF I kinda play around with this for fun:
Gerald plays in the NBA for a little while. There is no NBA team in Pittsburgh, only one of the big four missing. But in this case I pretend they do have one. He plays for the Pipers, which was the name of an ABA team there. Their jerseys are Pittsburgh black and gold, so Gerald wears #33 in those colors instead of red and white lol.
Mr. Huynh retires in Nashville, where he is known as a country music one-hit wonder, and moves there with his daughter. Anyways, Arnold goes to visit them there and they go to a Nashville Stars MLB game. The stars is the name of a proposed MLB team that could exist there someday.
My least favorite child characters and Rhonda and Lila. And least favorite adult is Oskar.
Is there anyone on YouTube who covers the show, either specifically or just has videos on it? It's a show that is frankly BEGGING for a deep dive
So in my FF story adult Helga and Arnold (a married couple by then) go to the homeless shelter every year to give out turkeys for thanksgiving, taking their two kids. They run into Oskar (60 something by then) b/c he has gone homeless out of his own selfishness and laziness. He couldn’t survive without Susie.
Helga understands why Arnold keeps giving him turkeys just to be a good citizen. But knowing all she does about Oskar says he doesn’t deserve it. She says yeah her dad is just as much of an asshole but at least he worked to get where he is.
Anyone going to Nostalgia Con next month in Texas? Craig Bartlett will be there along with the voices of Arnold, Gerald, Eugene, Rhonda, Helgas dad, and Big Patty
Was watching the S2 Episode "New teacher". And Mr Simmons pulls out a poetry book with strange letters , wonder if anyone can figure this out . Its episode 18 of S2 at 15:21 . on paramount plus. Unfortunatley i cant screen shot it from Paramount plus.
Last week, PlutoTV had a week long marathon of Hey Arnold on the 90s kids channel. Arnold's Valentine was one of the episodes. I do love this episode very much, however, each time it came on, even as a kid, I always yell at the screen, "HOW DO YOU NOT KNOW WHO THAT IS?!?!?!"
New FF. Starts out like The Patakis would have (Helga writing a letter), rehashes some of the ‘Arnold’s Hat’ episode and drops a Rugrats easter egg: https://www.fanfiction.net/s/14354476/15/
Helga G Pataki at ur service 🫡
This is a song I think best describes arnold and Gerald's friendship
We all need a Gerald in our life. That person who listens to us, to every single of one of our crazy "the world is cruel but I can make it better" existentialist dialogues, every weird thought, every screaming in the bridge while our ice cream is melting in our hand, every cry for attention on this world...and say "you know what [your name], I'm down, I'm going to support you on your weird idea".
And we all need a Phoebe in our life. That person who listens to us, to every single of one of our crazy "the world is cruel but I can make it better" existentialist dialogues, every weird thought, every screaming in the bridge while our ice cream is melting in our hand, every cry for attention on this world...and slaps us in the face because we were getting hysterical.
A few weeks ago I was discussing this with a friend, and...yeah, we all need these two friends.
