You can’t pick the power(s) involving taking other powers. Spoilers are fine. I’m restarting after a decade, and I’m only on season 2, but so far:
I’ll update when I finish the show.
Rewatching Heroes, I noticed a recurring central theme: the divide between those with powers and those without. Many characters gifted with special abilities find themselves facing an existential question: Where do I belong in this world?
The random emergence of powers only reinforces this feeling, as "supers" are often surrounded by ordinary people, further isolating them.
!In season 4, the character Samuel offers a potential solution to this problem. He creates a traveling circus that serves as a refuge for "supers" who have experienced tragic pasts—whether due to the Company or their inability to control their abilities. This circus becomes a family for these rejected individuals, much like Charles Xavier’s school in X-Men.!<
But let’s be honest, this is not a viable large-scale solution. A traveling circus is nice, but it’s not a sustainable alternative for all the "supers" scattered across the world. As for Xavier’s school, while it helps control powers, once its students leave, they still have to face discrimination. And where there is discrimination, there is frustration, anger, and inevitably... conflict. It’s only a matter of time before some "supers" turn against humanity.
Another major issue: "supers" who kill accidentally. Some discover their abilities too late—sometimes after a tragedy. Whether they are responsible or not, the fear they inspire only pushes them further into marginalization.
Given this situation, what could "supers" do? I can imagine several scenarios:
Of course, all these options are radical and would inevitably lead to global conflict, whether through open war or a tense coexistence akin to an interspecies Cold War. But after all, these kinds of tensions have always fueled the stories we grew up with.
The best solution, in my opinion, would be the creation of an independent state for "supers." History has shown that coexistence is a difficult ideal to achieve. It’s clear that sooner or later, "supers" would be persecuted, exploited, or eliminated. Giving them their own territory would be a sustainable alternative.
But creating a country is no small task. Colonial history and geopolitical conflicts have proven that no land is truly free of inhabitants. Seizing a territory by force would immediately make "supers" the oppressors and a global threat.
So why not create new land? It’s not as far-fetched as it sounds. Some powers seen in Heroes could make this possible:
!Geokinesis & Terrakinesis (Samuel): To raise land from the ocean.!<
!Space-time manipulation (Hiro Nakamura): To execute complex underwater modifications.!<
!Vortex: To clear underwater obstacles.!<
!Invulnerability & Immortality (Claire Bennet, Adam): Perfect for resilient builders.!<
!Mind Control (Matt Parkman): To facilitate certain diplomatic negotiations. 😉!<
!Hydrokinesis: To control surrounding waters and prevent tsunamis.!<
!Weather Manipulation: To stabilize the climate of the future country.!<
!Phytokinesis: To create a viable ecosystem.!<
!Aerokinesis: To prevent storms during construction.!<
!Alchemy & Resource Transmutation: To make the country self-sufficient.!<
!Power Amplification (Ando): To accelerate the construction process.!<
I favor a solution based on Zealandia, a submerged continent whose only above-sea territories today are New Zealand and New Caledonia. This location presents several advantages:
The emergence of a new "super" state would be seen as a threat by some global powers but also as an opportunity by others seeking allies. With a well-managed diplomatic approach, this nation could position itself as a neutral power—like Switzerland, but with extraordinary abilities.
I believe that creating a state for "supers" would be the most viable long-term solution. Such an endeavor would require unprecedented cooperation and total mastery of their abilities. It could mark the beginning of a new golden age… or the genesis of another cycle of conflicts. But either way, it would make for one hell of a story! 😉
bro just cured Charlie of an aneurism and you're telling me that doesn't spark anything in him, to stop the senseless killing? he could do so much more with his powers and I'm kinda sad they never utilised that, hey well he'd make a good neurologist wink wink.
man I wish they gave sylar a love interest too, not that love cures all but i think it could've stopped him on his path of destruction. just a thought, getting through season 4. I think that Emmas power is really beautiful and it's nice to see heroes with disabilities, I also wish we got to see mohinder more, miss that guy.
interested to see what happens, kinda sad it's gonna be over.
So I’m rewatching the series for the first time in a long time and I’m confused on the events of episode 11 to 12. In ep 11, we see Sylar kill Eden and then a jump cut happens. Then the next time we see sylar in ep 12 he’s back in his cell and drugged. What the hell happened? Did I miss something? Why didn’t he just escape?
bro why is everyone weird towards Claire like WHYY, sylar too goddamn, she's 17 bro she's 17 😭 leave girl alone bro.
just gonna... forget about this i think cuz it's so weird, yeah I know season 4 doenst get better but oh well.
honestly what even happened in this season fr, they should've cut it up into separate season i think. rip Nathan I guess he did kinda piss me off but in the end he meant well, oh well i guess sylar is gonna be Nathan? why couldn't they just kill bro and put him in a coffin like adam. also Angela annoys the hell outta me to cuz one time she's like nooo my son he's dead auuuuuh then she's like hey Matt can u put false memories into sylar cuz I miss him🥺. I thought this season couldn't get worse i was wrong my bad. I just think they kinda threw away sylars character a bit and I would've preferred if he joined peter and co against danko and redeemed him a bit? and they sidelined by boy mohinder.
being a bit negative but this season was a little hard to watch, the only episode I'm looking foward to is the Wall. maybe I'll write a fix it because gaddamn.
Although Heroes is a series ahead of its time in many ways, there are still things that don't look good today. For me, one scene that clearly has aged poorly is when, in the final season, Sylar uses Matt's body to sleep with his wife. In the series, Sylar jokes about it and it's not presented as problematic at all. Today we understand this scene as a sexual assault that Sylar committed towards Matt's wife.
I fell in love with this show so hard that I was skipping sleep to watch it.
I thought it couldn't possibly get as bad as people said it did. I thought I'd find something redeemable in it, some niche idea I could hold on to. Well fuck that, I guess, cause Nathan just had to be my favorite character and they just had to literally butcher him. Like, everything else aside, how do you kill him off right then? Like that? And do THAT to him? It feels so dirty, so disgusting, I'd rather rewatch Mohinder as Queen of the Slime. How deluded is Angela that she'd want something like that? And worst of all, Nathan's arc was going somewhere with the "He's one of us" scene. And Volume 5 is called Redemption. Redemption for who, mfs, the only guy who should seek it is dead. I genuinely can't believe this is a good idea.
No, rant aside, someone tell me if I'll get some closure by watching season 4, because right now I really don't want to.
Also, how the hell did this show not spawn a million fix-it fanfictions? Cause I'm on my way to write a hell of a lot of words right now.
I love this show with all my heart. Grew up with it and recently started it up to watch it through for the first time with my fiancée. She loves it oo, but our problem is the writing is simply so bad. Claire has the same arc for the three seasons we’ve watched so far (currently on s3e8) where she loves her dad then learns one thing about him then hates him then loves him again
Nathan is always on some random shit Mohinder is arguably one of the worst and most unbearable characters
It’s like they make the show so frustrating to watch! All the heroes act dumb asf and never communicate, and they’re constantly losing the entirety of the season until the finale where something big happens to stop it and makes the entire season pointless
TLDR: great show, lazy, LAZY writing
Going through old blogs from some of the writers and I just learned that Christopher Eccleston was offered the role of Sylar (which he turned down).
He was supposed to be a man named Paul E Sylar born in June 1962
Not only that, but "In Tim’s very first draft of the pilot script was a strange intense scene for Sylar – he was imprisoned in a cell in Italy with long claw-like nails and sharp teeth. That version of Sylar, which never even made the final pilot draft, was way weirder and more monstrous, -- like Nosferatou."
I'm happy with what we got (and this the change was definitely for the better), but this does sound like a cool concept which I wish they would've reused in some way
bro what an earth is Nathan doing ?? it's giving a certain country during a certain time, like wtf why is he always switching up sides and shit. he lowkey pisses me off the most and I'm glad he dies at some point honestly.
this season is something, a lot is happening I guess. sylar is somehow getting more evil and I wonder if he really does get redeemed or not, honestly people just need to stop lying to him, also I feel like he only uses his telekinesis and the occasional other ability, like does he even use say Zanes ability again? then what's the point aside from feeding the hunger.
it's getting a little difficult to remember what the fuck is going on tbh and with the million different characters and subplots. this season is very convoluted.
also whilst watching i decided to make my own character,, idk if I should post him here tho, anyway.
If you want to make your own Sylar wall clock, the files are now available to download for free.
Only things you’ll need to buy are a clock kit and some screws / bolts.
Should have this finished tomorrow and the files available for free on Makerworld.
I had the logo and design made for the actual watch, made sense to make this into a wall clock version :)
Just got to design and test print the hands and it’s good to go!
Was he not a complete telepath?
I'm thinking of that interrogation where he erased the dude's memories of his daughter. If he could go in and be precise enough to erase those memories, why couldn't he just go in and find the memories of what they were looking for in the interrogation?
Something I think about from Reborn often that shows just how manipulative Erika Kravid was: She wasn’t lying about Evos destroying the Summit. She only lied about Mohinder being responsible (which was a poor move on her part, Sylar being blamed makes more strategic sense. The world knew about Sylar’s nature thanks to Claire).
Two Evos were responsible: Phoebe Frady and MF Harris caused the attack with their powers combined. So clearing all Evos was a moot point because either way, Evos were responsible.
wow. sylar has a kid?? gaddamn, was not expecting him to be redeemed whilst peter is the villain, kind of want him to be redeemed tbh. I'm guessing that sort of happened based on what i read of the Wall or whatever.
will say this season isn't so bad, I still don't like nikki or Tracy.
Mine’s Milo 🫠
I always thought her and Charlie were the cutest characters. I am rewatching and I was sad to see her shoot herself, but she did it to prevent Sylar from stealing her mind manipulation which was very heroic. Sad we didn't get to see more of her power!
what is going on with hiro and his samurai side quest 😂 it's funny though, dunno what is going on with Bennett. like one minute he's good guy then he's asking mohinder to take away someone's powers to keep his cover.
I like sylars story with maya and alejandro, I feel bad for the two. 3 killers in a car, however accidental, is the start to funny joke. I'm guessing alejandro controls her deadly ones, just wondering if he has any more purpose then being a protective guard dog haha.
Matt continues to annoy me a bit, so does Nathan, I think they are my least favourite characters just because of the first season and Matt just traumisting poor molly 🥺
Peter is just doing whatever, getting Irish chicks. valid. oh and he forgor
it's hard keeping track of all the characters story lines tbh.
I started late (2017). I was as a freshman in college. I was losing my mind with anxiety. I was on my own for the first time & lost & clueless & I had to contend with partial blindness which made everything insanely difficult. I was terrified of the world, possibilities, the unknown.
Heroes provided me with a way to quiet everything around me, plus I’m a sucker for people with powers! I love this show & always will.
The show even inspired my first tattoo!!!!!
in the future, WHY?? 😂
lowkey tried to watch it a while ago but I never got far, but once I knew quinto was in it I wanted to start watching it again. yeah I'm 14 episodes in, I want more sylar! anyway I like Peter and Hiro, enjoying watching it play out. anyway just wanted to yap a little.
still don't really get sylars powers and why he murders people and eats their brains or whatever and I don't get HOW evos (?) came to be.
Why did no one in Texas have a Texan accent?
It was my favorite part of the series 😁
I’m a big fan of the original Heroes soundtrack and themes, part of the reason I liked Heroes in the first place was because of the general ambience the score brought to the show. While rewatching reborn for the first time since it aired, im noticing that a lot of the score and themes are recycled straight from the original heroes series and ost.
Were any new themes (specifically the new characters) ever created for reborn? If they were, were they ever released? Besides like the intro and end credits, I’m not noticing too much scoring from Wendy & Lisa that hasn’t been used before in the new series. I know this happens a lot of times once series get older, it’s more cost effective to just use theme music that’s been created already. I just don’t notice the score as much in reborn as I did in the original series. Any information would be great, thanks!
Maybe I need to vent cause I’m a little depressed & I chose this as my show to get me through & now I’m honestly worse after watching
Backstory: watches bits & pieces growing up > LOVE Hayden always > found again in highschool (mom bought me boxset cause she’s the best) > but I never finished > decided to pick it up during a slump to finish cause I needed something to excite me > feel as dead inside as Nathan petrelli in Sylars body
Main issue with the show: the writing. Idk what was going on in the writers room but I know talent wasn’t for sure!
DISCLAIMER: I know the writing is the main critic and blah blah blah writers strike but that truly isn’t an excuse for the slow, miserable death of creativity that was the show Hero’s.
Great concept- should’ve been put in ANYONE else’s hands. Idk how you fumble potential this bad. Everything was set in place but the writing makes no sense, has too many holes, most it is pointless and feels like men just writing whatever they think is fun in the moment, it’s got no heart or depth but they want to force that it does so bad.
Peter: The most annoying slop of writing on the show… no character, no personality, nothing that makes him “special” at all. I found him insufferable because he has nothing of real value driving him.
Claire: again I love my girl but her whole plot is “IM A FREAK NO ONE UNDERSTANDS” bitch… if you don’t back your undying ass up. Idk what girl is soooo pressed about, her ability is easy to hide.. like ma’am how often are you getting murdered or losing a finger ya know? Her ability is also lame- she gets taken advantage of in every fight I wish they added something more to her. Hilarious that whenever she wants to throw a fit she just stabs herself..
Noah: no notes. Assuming a bunch of men wrote this show Noah is a perfectly flawed character and that’s probably why he is translated the best. They simply wrote themselves in.
Sylar: just annoying. He’s the same as Peter, plot list, stale, boring. His motivation never changes to the point where it isn’t a motivation at all. It’s like he’s an ai being powered by one objective. Also never make your villain too powerful and if they are going to be the villain through the ENTIRE show for whatever dumb ass reason make sure they’ve got more depth than kill kill kill.
Maya: a dumb bitch. Hated every second she was on my screen, the only time I was rooting for sylar to shut her tf up. She clearly needed dick from someone other than her brother
Matt Parkman: one of the worst written characters in tv history. So insufferable at every turn. No decisions make sense and he’s just annoying when he finally makes one. He was a weird creepy starved for woman acceptance and connection which I did appreciate briefly being explored in the final season but it never resolves.
Mohinder: LIKE OH MY GOD the writers must’ve hated the characters, they all had potential to be someone worth rooting for but turned up becoming rotted by awful writing. His presence was so pointless most the show and did the character a disservice fr!
Tracey/Niki: maybe the biggest let down of them all… you have a talent like Ali Larter and completely fumble her. Both of characters were terribly written, plotless plots that fall through to the point she’s not in half the show or has to be rebooted. Her first power doesn’t even make sense and is dumb af, when do we meet the third sister? lol I LOVE them putting that in place in case they have to ditch Tracey too even though they basically did.
Hiro/Ando: love them. Wish they had more creativity with these characters other than hiro forgetting who he is every other episode and they spend the whole time getting him back to normal.
Nathan: I love this man and his dump truck ass. I was never annoyed with him really even though his writing obviously was shotty but Adrian delivered it good enough I didn’t care.
There are so many side characters who deserved center stage and so many center stage characters who had no business being there at all. They muddied the show too much with too many people just to show the different abilities but never go into depth on the people wielding them. Daphne for example was great, Elle was great, two characters who had decent back stories that did deserve more screen time over the likes of Matt fuck Parkman.
This show has been mind numbing which was what I needed but now my brain is so numb it hurts! I’m on season 4 so I’m going to ride it out but wow will never be taking this journey again.
Maybe the new series will favor better but with Tim Kring at the helm I’m not confident. It also speaks a lot that this man has had one project and clinging to that for dear life over 20 years. There’s a reason buddy… if it was for the all star cast and the super powers idk if we’d even know this man’s name!
Now that I’ve taken a fat stinky shit on this show and it’s creator I do need to give it credit for the inclusivity of the time, I appreciate all walks of life being represented and those stories I found the most endearing. This show had the potential to be a classic and potentially go on for 10 seasons if they had a clear vision of what it was. It seemed there was a million visions for everything without something solid to hold onto.
There is nothing I hate more than wasted potential and maybe it’s exactly what I need to see with where I’m at in life right now
When Thompson shoots Ted and he goes haywire, the Haitian is outside. Is there any reason Rene could not have gone in there to chill him out? Is there a particular reason it had to be Claire saving her father?
When does he stop being such a dumbass?
