Work Visa

Do I need to apply for a working visa to use HelpX if I stay in each country briefly? I'm hoping to avoid the hassle of applying for visas/work permits but would like to hop around Europe using HelpX.

Sites similar to HELPX and Workaway?

Not sure if I should post this question here? I knew helpx before I found out about workaway. Helpx i found out via a person in my hostel dormitory. (word of mouth). Workaway via google. Since then I didnt find many similar networks. If anyone has something to recommend (other than wooof too)

Is it possible to listen them all here in a thread?

Advice for new host?

Next year, my family goes to open up our life to HelpX and other similar programs. We are a family with 3 young children, and try to build up a sustainable lifestyle. We practice ZW, and our big project is building an earthbag house (check out CalEarth's Earth One if you want to get an idea of what we're going to do). Because we're going to be very new to this, what advice do you experienced Helpers have for a new host? I want to provide an experience that teaches (about sustainable living, and whatever out travelers have to teach us) that is safe (both socially and as a building site) and that lets people explore our area (we have a lot to offer, it just takes a bit of driving to get to most places). So, tell me whatcha got?

TRAVELLING THE WORLD WITH HELPX!?

Hi everyone! My name is Olivia and I’m looking to travel to as many countries as I can with helpx/workaway/wwoof. (Opinions in which one is best will be very much appreciated)

My boyfriend and I are looking firstly at Vietnam, Laos, Cambodia and then moving onto the Philippines. ( were not entirely sure on what countries to be exact yet) But ideally, we would like to be volunteering for roughly around a month (maybe more) and then possibly having a week or so to explore some other places in the country before moving on and doing the same kind of format in another country. How much money roughly would be recommended for a month when volunteering? We’re not looking for a boozy tourist experience, so won’t be much money spent on drinks. we’re mainly looking to get involved with the culture, which is why these organisations appeal to us so much. Also, how early on do we book with hosts? And how long is the recommended stay at each farm/work exchange?

Sorry for this being so long but this is our first time doing something like this so trying to get as much advice as possible. I know these questions are answered on the websites but would love to know from people who have experienced it all first hand :) .

Also any other tips would be greatly appreciated.

THANKS IN ADVANCE XXXXXX

Who wants to moderate this subreddit?

I created this sub a long time ago because I saw a potential need for it. However, I didn't invest any time into it at all, and predictably it hasn't taken off. Is anyone interested in moderating it, with pretty much free reign in regards to the direction it should take?

Best Hosts in Canada?

Hey Y'all,

My girlfriend and I travel through WWOOF and HelpX. We're headed to Vancouver Island for our next home stay and are looking for our following exchange. Have any one of you lovely folks had outstanding help exchanges in Canada? We prefer homestays, accomadation businesses, other type of stuff.

Thanks!

Help with New Zealand Visa

I want to helpX in New Zealand but I don't know what visa I need. I am from the UK but I wasn't sure if they regard HelpX as 'work' so I would need a work visa? Or would I be ok under the visa wavier programme?

How do you explain to your friends back home why you are doing this?

Some people love the idea, but a lot of my friends cant get their head around working and not getting paid.

It took me until i was on my second helpx to have a good answer.

Its very different than working to get paid. You arent getting pushed to work harder even though i do try my best. Also the level of trust the people give you to use their tools on their property and leave you sometimes in their house on your own makes you feel part of the family.

The amount i have learned i cannot comprehend. So many subtle things like how differently different cultures value nature to more obvious things like how to stack wood for drying like a wall.

I would recommend it to most people. But not all. It isnt for everyone.

Do you think it is?

Homestay opportunity in exchange for English language in SPAIN!!!!

Hello all. I hope this reaches the audience it deserves. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to experience Spain in the comfort and ease of a local families home. This is the chance to work with families who want to learn English themselves, or give their children the opportunity to while allowing those who might not have the means to travel and appease their wanderlust. I hope whoever reads this will seek out more information from me or Nina (the companies owner). Link is provided below by means of facebook.)

Help X and eldercare?

Hi all I was just curious as to whether or not anyone came across a Help X add or anything of the like had some opportunities with eldercare. I have a degree in therapy with a special focus on the recreation spectrum and elders. I am aware that this specialized focus is not likely to be found but if like to help in ways in which i am previously trained. I have found some posts with special needs care and was curious as to whether or not there are similar opportunities and their frequency/ location. Any and all comments are welcome! Thank you!

Better search function?

Any websites that does a better job of searching than helpx? I love the site, but it really needs a way to find something I want without reading through 1000s of profiles. If you know of anything please let me know. Otherwise I am gonna try and make something myself.

Hey there

Hey guys, I was looking for some advice on HelpX. I've been thinking about traveling and working with my partner and I was wondering about HelpX.

A few questions; do you guys enjoy it? Is it worth it? Generally how much money do you need? Do you get paid for it in money or just room&board?

There's a few others but these are the main ones.
