Fireworks/Gun shots

For several weeks I’ve been hearing fireworks or gunshots or something in the area of canyon ferry and lake Helena drive. Can’t pinpoint a direction. Mostly at night, sometimes quite late/early.

Anybody have a clue?

Line of Lights in the Sky

Anyone know what the 7-10 or so lights in the sky moving in unison were tonight? They looked to be the brightness of planes but they moved in a perfect line then disappeared behind the clouds.

Chinkiang vinegar Search

Before I go to every single grocery store in town, does anyone know if anywhere in Helena sells chinkiang brand Chinese black vinegar?

Hello, r/helena, do you care about the Missouri River? If so, check out this fundraiser and AMA for Missouri River Relief, hosted by r/missouri

We are excited to announce an opportunity to help the Missouri River, the longest river in North America. During December this giving campaign will raise money for the nonprofit Missouri River Relief. Every dollar we raise will be matched by Reddit itself (up to $20,000) meaning we could raise over $40,000! To give visit https://givebutter.com/riverrelief-reddit24 funds raised at this link will be counted.

The Communications Director of Missouri River Relief, Steve Schnarr, will be joining r/Missouri for an old-school Reddit AMA (Ask Me Anything) on Friday December 13, from 10-2. You will have the opportunity to ask him questions about both the Missouri River and/or Missouri River Relief. Until then, here is some more information:

Missouri River Relief's mission is to engage individuals and communities along the Missouri River in the exploration, enjoyment, restoration and care of the river through hands-on river cleanups, education programs and recreation.

Since 2001, Missouri River Relief has been bringing people to the Missouri River. More than 33,000 volunteers have removed over 2 million pounds of trash from the river. They've worked with more than 40,000 students and teachers to help develop a relationship with the river. Thousands of people have experienced the Missouri River for the first time at one of their events. Each summer, hundreds of adventurers paddle their way across the state in the "Missouri American Water MR340", celebrating its 20th year in 2025. They love getting to share the story of this river... Like "what forces shaped the Missouri River into the river it is today, or "where does all of the trash we pick-up come from and where does it all go", or "How did this cool pre-historic fish become endangered?" "Who were the people that lived here long before we did?" We host a monthly Big Muddy Speaker Series that explores topics like these each month.

See you on the river!

How Does Helena's 'culture' compare to other cities?

Figured like as good a place as any to ask this question. I'm born and raised in Helena. Have basically 0 experience of what it'd be like living in another city. General consensus is it's hard to make friends, in the city's other people have lived in was it ever 'easy'? People always blame Helena for the reason life's so lonely for me and others. But I've always heard people are even more distant in big cities. So how much truth is there to that idea?

What's everyone's experience on how Helena really compares to other cities. Bigger, smaller, whatever. I want to hear people's experiences.

Edit: I'm only talking socially. Like making friends

Tryna Find Sage for a ________.

I can't remember what's it's called, the sage burning ceremony, but I'm tryna find a bit for after cleaning the house all week. Gotta let the old spirits know I'm on their side, you know, also it has some half-hippy half-science ionic something or rather.

It smells good without being a cleaner smell, a smudge?

Anywhere in town that would have bundles of sage?

Anyone skilled or know someone skilled in replacing styli in moving coil cartridges (aka record player needle)? Thought I’d shout out locally before sending my Yamaha MC-7 away for maintenance.

Considering moving to Montana

Coming up on the end of my contract with the Army and want to live in a more rural area away from super busy cities. After talking with some buddies the northern states sounded appealing but I’ve never gone any more north than North Carolina, after finding out about Montana I was intrigued but don’t want to relocate my wife then move her again because we don’t like the area. So how’s Montana? What’s the housing and job market looking like? If it helps I’m looking to go into information technology and my wife a X-ray technician. Any info helps and hope to see Montana soon!!

Employee housing

Hello! Was wondering if anyone knows of jobs in Helena that offer employee housing. Have hit a rough spot financially and just can’t afford a deposit right now. Thanks in advance.

Google Earth

I am hoping someone has the time and knowledge to make 3-D in Google Earth the distinctive buildings of Helena's sky line. I don't know how and am praying someone else does or wants to learn. Yes I am part of the problem, not the solution.

Archery lessons in Helena? 🏹

Looking to start archery lessons in/near Helena. 34F and a noob with a bow. Is there a good place nearby that offers lessons and to try a bow to see what I like? Not really looking for a club or anything (that's all I've been finding) just wanting to try it out and learn.

Thanks! 🏹

Holiday season

Just a reminder that it’s ok to be nice to retail workers or people in general all year long but even more during the holiday season. Don’t take for granted the fast food worker and retail worker that’s have to deal with hundreds of if not thousands of people daily. You never know what someone is going thru and you don’t need to make their day crappy… while we are at it, it never hurts to open or hold open a door for someone. Be safe out there

Water

Has anyone noticed the water getting better? I can't tell if I'm going nose blind but it seems to smell a bit better at least.

Any PS5 gamers?

Based on what I’ve been told/seen, I’m staying in and thinking about playing some good ol COD Zombies. No preference on which one.

Is there any gamers out there who’d be down to hop on?

Adult co-Ed Soccer Clubs

I just recently got to Helena and am wanting to join some clubs to meet people. I used to play soccer so I thought I could hop back into that. However I missed the registration for the Co-Ed indoor league by like 10 days. I’m 22 and I live with my girlfriend and a friend (both also 22). Any other ideas??

Or any soccer clubs that would let me join this late?

What is the drive to the gates of the mountains like right now with snow?

Im not from here but I am staying here for a little bit. I really want to go see the gates of the mountains but I have a buick verano (sedan) and I just want to know if the road gets rough at all especially right now with the snow. I dont plan on going far in the back country I just want to see some views. But Im also curious about the drive to york. I imagine its more off road?
