I have bitched ton about then hanging about downtown over the years being a pain in the ass and such. But I'm really concerned about them the next few days. Does anyone know if the city has a emergency shelter up? They are talk about lows in the teens the next few days... Thats too cold in an area thats not used to it
If I was back in Boston or Detroit I wouldn't be this concerned. But here the homeless don't have enough winter gear
I noticed Gamer Oasis didn’t post any deals for Black Friday this year are they officially cooked?
Guy in late 40s looking for a yoga class to get my flexibility back. Hot/normal is fine, thank you.
Anyone know of a live nativity scenes around here ? I would love to see one and take my mother. TIA
Looking for recommendations for local pasture-raised eggs laid by free roaming hens. Basically, looking for local eggs from chickens with lots of outdoor access that are also well treated and cared for.
Recently divorced and I can’t really seem to find anywhere decent to meet new people. I’m not religious so churches are right out and it feels like other than that, there are few opportunities. I was wounded in the wars, so joining hiking clubs also is less than desirable. (I can do it, it just hurts more than is worth it to me most of the time.)
Looking to treat myself to getting my nails done for my birthday. Either want to get a full set acrylic or dip powder done. I’ve been to G3 and they’re usually alright but I was wondering if there were any other places that are good and decently priced ?
Have plenty of vintage insulators, machinist tools and older antique tools in general for sale. Also old Singer sewing machine and Lionel train sets from the 50s. Message if interested
The apartment is a shared apartment that is on the second floor of a two-story building. You will be leasing the "master bedroom" and I will be living in the other bedroom.
I'm a male, semi retired, single and a tobacco user (I'm trying to quit). I'm neat, quiet and desire a house mate that is the same.
The apartment has Harrisonburg City bus service (Number 5 route is within sight of the building), Utilities included. There is a garbage disposal, a dishwasher, clothes washer and a dryer in the apartment that will be shared.
This is an older neighborhood that is quiet and family oriented.
You will be close to stores and recreational parks.
Leave a message and I can give you further details.
Had this CD and it broke about 10 years ago and finally found that somebody posted the album online. If you remember these guys and want to take a trip down memory lane here's your chance. Me and my friends remember watching these guys play the PC ballroom and in people's living rooms when we were in high school.
Hi y’all, just wanted to ask on what can one do during thanksgiving if if I don’t have any family in state, and all the friends have left to spend time with their families? I was hoping to work but the office i work at off will be closed so don’t know what to do
Hi! Is anyone coming into town tomorrow via DC and driving into Harrisonburg?
I am looking at getting a Hyundai EV and am wondering what other people's experiences are living with an EV in Harrisonburg?
We would only have access to a home 110v charger so I am bit worried we will not have convient access to chargers since Harrisonburg seems to have only a few options for charging.
What are other people's thoughts?
I'd love to grab a plate of turkey and fixins somewhere Thursday, anybody know of a bar or restaurant doing a Thanksgiving dinner?
Hello everyone! I recently moved to Harrisonburg and I have to commute to Elkton for work. What are my options for the commute as I do not have a car and I did not see any public transportation available either. Any suggestions would be helpful! Thanks!

hey y’all! i’m gonna be going on a 2nd date with someone i really like and she’s from out of town. our date is gonna be in harrisonburg and will be on a weeknight (possibly on a tuesday but not sure) after we’re both off work. please help me plan something creative to do in town at that time. i’ll definitely take her out to eat but would love suggestions on other creative things to do around town (my mind is going blank which is why i’m here lol).
(not sure if this is helpful or not but we’re in our early 20s)
I’m looking for recommendations for a good family law attorney who is familiar with child support, particularly when one parent receives SSDI and VA disability. My ex and I are going through a child support modification and he’s just told me he’s planning to retain a lawyer and is trying to play games, so even though the case is managed by DCSE I’d feel more comfortable with my own attorney.
Looking for someone who won’t charge me an arm and a leg just for the child support stuff, but who is good and somewhat of a pit bull/shark if necessary because my ex has a tendency to lie to benefit himself.
Wharton Aldizer Weaver is out since he’s discussed the case with them before.
The ex-“The Egg and I” (swoon) is coming to the old O’Charlies. Anybody know when is opening?
Both yesterday and today I’ve seen groups of maybe 8 to 12 people sort of huddled together different places downtown. Yesterday was the parking deck by the co-op and today is across from the children’s museum. They’re all on their phones, some are on two phones. Anyone know what they’re doing? is Pokémon go back?
Hey all :)
Someone I know is about to move to the HBurg area. They currently have two job offers but want something more if those jobs fall through so they're not in a bad financial spot in HBurg. They're in a bit of a tough spot because they're having a tough time holding down a job as of now, but they also have a documented (intellectual/mental/not physical) disability.
In the area where I'm currently located, there's a place whose entire purpose is to place those with disabilities into a job. The way I've had the program explained to me, these jobs are low-paying but with high job security. This person doesn't mind that. I was thinking of having this person enroll into a similar program in HBurg so that they don't put all their eggs in one basket with their current job offers, so to speak, or so at least they have a good part-time second job so they can have more money/expand to full-time hours if they really want to.
I've heard of Pleasant View, but that's the only thing I could find and I recommended it to them. Are there any other places/avenues you guys know of? Anything within a 15-mile radius of HBurg is acceptable.
Thanks!!!
As Christmas gift for spouse, need to hire someone to hang dozens of pictures and ceramics on our rental home walls. Trick is without leaving giant holes. Any recommendations on whom to hire? Definitely not doing this myself. 😂
I could sit here & tell you all the reasons why you should join our server (we're fun, we're silly, we've all made a lot of IRL friends, etc.), but just come see for yourself! This is a 21+ server, so no youngins (sorry, kiddos).
We know there are specific Discords for different cities, regions, etc. for VA, but this is a state wide server designed to make actual friends from all over the state!
I’m looking to relet my bedroom and private bathroom in a 4bed/4.5bath apartment. It’s on the first floor out of three, super close to JMU and the shopping centers (there’s a bus stop right out front if you use the bus system), and it’s occupied by two other really nice JMU girls! Rent is $675 a month for a good size apartment. Internet, water and trash is included, as well as access to the clubhouse, which has private study areas, a 24/7 gym and an outdoor entertainment space. They often host events in the clubhouse. They don’t include electricity, but you are billed separately from the other people and don’t have to worry about getting anything from them!
Let me know if you’re interested!!
EDIT: one of my roommates is also trying to relet her room as well, so there are 2 rooms available!
I'm looking for a men's barber shop that uses scissors.. Every popular place AJs, Omar's, etc. in town you walk in and all barbers got those short skin fades, trimming widdow peaks, just use shavers as their main tools.. Any legit barbers in town?
Edit: thanks everyone
Hi everyone! Wondering if anyone has experience with or information about the Congers Creek Townhomes?
I think I know enough about Ryan Homes to stay away 😂 but wondering about the quality of the Congers Creek townhomes, overall community, HOA, buying process, etc.
Interested in a townhome search in the coming months, so any and all advice is appreciated. Thanks in advance!
Hi Harrisonburg,
I’m looking for anyone who’s had issues with speed camera tickets in the city, particularly those issued for violations at Route 33 and I-81. Specifically, I’d like to hear from people who:
In my research, I’ve identified three major concerns with how these tickets are handled:
If any of these issues resonate with you, or if you’ve had similar challenges contesting a speed camera ticket, your story could help with reforms. I’m particularly interested in:
Why it matters:
These issues raise questions about fairness and due process, particularly for those who are factually innocent of the charge. Hearing about your experiences could help document systemic problems and drive reforms.
If you’re willing to share, please comment here or DM me privately. Any input—whether it’s your story or advice—is greatly appreciated.
Hey y’all! My partner and I (mid 30s, no kids) just signed a lease on a house in Harrisonburg, and we’re moving mid-January! Although we’ve spent the past ~9 years in Austin TX, we’re both native Virginians (northern VA) who spent the first 26 years of our lives there. It’s going to be a big change, but we’re looking forward to it - both of us have loved the Shenandoah area since we were kids, and although it’s been years since we’ve visited, we have fond memories of the time we’ve spent there.
I’ve searched through the subreddit & I’m doing my own homework, but I’m looking for ways to make connections as a transplant from out of state. I love art, music, science, history and fashion, and my hobbies include knitting (albeit poorly), plants/gardening, drawing/painting, thrifting/antiquing, cooking, reading (mostly nonfiction), and hiking (although I’m in terrible shape due to chronic pain/illness, so if there are any beginner-level hiking groups, lmk!) I also have a dog, so I’d love recommendations for dog friendly places/activities!
I’m also looking for ways to get directly involved in the local community. My partner and I both enjoy volunteering & giving back - we’ve both done homeless outreach & worked with soup kitchens/food pantries, and I’ve done trail clean ups & volunteered with animal shelters & wildlife rescue organizations. If you have any recommendations for volunteer opportunities or local organizations I could contact, that would be lovely!
Thanks in advance y’all - we’re looking forward to our next adventure!
ETA: I just want to say that I’m so grateful and honestly touched that so many people responded! You’ve given me SO many great suggestions/recommendations, and it’s really reinforced that this move is the right choice for me. I’m so excited to join your community 🥹
saw a bunch of cop cars outside a building in arcadia and was wondering if anyone knows what’s up??
