It's that time of year and where I'm from the VFW or other groups would sell felt poppies outside of Walmart and Kroger and other stores. But since I've moved here I haven't seen them? Does anyone have the hot tip where I can get a felt poppy?
Does anyone know any good catering companies around the area? I’m trying to plan an event, but most places aren’t doing tastings so I don’t even know who to choose for food.
Having a damn problem of always talking shit on others is it because everyone in harrisonburg is a miserable piece of shit ?
They always make me smile
Hello! I’ve been in VA since August and I want to get back into playing Magic as my older brothers are really big into it and wanted to know the best places to go to just play friendly games of commander? I don’t want to pay to play in a draft tournament or anything, just want to come in and play and chill. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
the golden pony is hosting a benefit show and 100 percent of the door and downstairs bar tips will go to folks effected by the hurricane! come out and support a good cause!
Recently got approved to live here but haven’t signed yet. I’m wondering if anyone has any insight or advice. I’ve heard matchbox is horrible but I’ve heard good things about urban exchange. Just wondering if I should sign or not.
I need of a officiant for the 15th of this month. We have reached out to multiple people and no one has availability at this time and is in a range we can afford, something like $300 is far too much.
I know it might be a strange request, but I’m sincerely asking if someone might be willing to help me cry (and no, it’s not a sexual thing). I’m just going through a lot right now and it’s been really dark and scary in my head. I don’t have anyone to turn to for support at the moment, and as good as ChatGPT is at role playing someone who cares, I think I need a real person. Honestly, I think if someone just stood in front of me and looked at me long enough without saying anything that might work.. Therapy is great and I’ve been doing it, but it’s a process and all that and I think sometimes you just need to cry. I get close sometimes there but it’s not it. I’m not psychotic or manic or suicidal. Yes, I know it’s kinda sad, but sometimes life puts you in situations where you need to run but there’s nowhere to go and you find yourself alone. I do see the humor in that I’m a guy in his early 30’s asking for strangers on the internet to help him cry, but I promise I’m so sincere.
To anyone who takes the time to read or consider– I hope your life has some peace and you don’t feel too terribly alone in the darkness. Can answer any questions and Dm’s are open.
Thanx folks on our local Reddit

Hi I'm 27 f and my fiance is 29 m. We've lived in harrisonburg our whole lives and we know the big normal wedding places the problem is it's too expensive. Does anyone have any ideas for a small intimate wedding ceremony that won't break our wallets. Ideal is nothing over 4000, I know it's gonna be hard. Just ideas would help.
Hello Harrisonburg!
I’ll be moving to the area for three months this winter and I’m looking for any volunteer opportunities in the community. I’m a nursing student with some experience in healthcare, so I’d love to help out in any healthrelated areas if possible. But I’m open to other kinds of volunteer work as well anything that lets me connect and contribute to the community.
I’ll have one free day per week, so please let me know if you have any recommendations or know of organizations that might need an extra hand! Thank youuuuuu
Election Day is (FINALLY) here; polls open across Virginia in less than 12 hours. (Check out our master voter guide post on r/Virginia for Election Day logistical info!)
The top of the ballot is, of course, occupied by the presidential race between Vice President Kamala Harris and former president Donald Trump.
But there are also state and local contests to be decided. Here’s what’s on the ballot in Harrisonburg:
Democratic incumbent Tim Kaine — fresh off an appearance on Saturday Night Live — is facing Republican challenger Hung Cao, a U.S. Navy veteran who has made border security the central issue of his campaign.
Incumbent Rep. Ben Cline, a member of the House Freedom Caucus, is seeking his fourth term as the representative for Virginia’s 6th Congressional District. He has raised nearly $1 million throughout the campaign, close to five times as much as his Democratic challenger, Ken Mitchell — who has campaigned on a message of civility and bipartisanship.
Three Democrats and one independent candidate are vying for three open seats on the five-person Harrisonburg City Council. Chris Jones lost his primary bid in June after a decade on the council.
And four candidates are competing for three open seats on the Harrisonburg City School Board. Newcomers Tim Howley, Hazzar Pastor Perdomo and Matt Snyder are running together as a liberal bloc, while Kaylene Seigle is seeking a third term. Deb Fitzgerald and Tom Domonoske decided to not seek re-election.
All Virginians will consider tweaking an existing tax rule that exempts surviving spouses of military service members killed in action from property tax.
If passed, the amendment would expand the exemption's eligibility — from surviving spouses of service members killed in combat to surviving spouses of service members who died while on active duty.
as far as I know there are none locally. what are some things that a union could do for renters here? what lines might it make sense for people to organize along (landlord, neighborhood, etc.)? i imagine any big rental company has an endless supply of students to rent to if locals start giving them trouble, but idk surely some amount of organizing is better than nothing at all?? i don't believe it's the case that tenants in this town truly have no collective leverage at all, it's just a matter of figuring out where and what it is.
Considering going back to community college and considering the IT field, are the opportunities for such career exist here or should I plan to look elsewhere? Currently in the automotive field and slowly looking for a way out.
Regardless of your party affiliation (or lack thereof), all signs are pointing to a very tight race in the Old Dominion.
If you're a US citizen who wants to vote but has never voted before, you do not need to be registered, you do not need citizenship docs like a passport and/or birth certificate, and you do not need to explain why you have never voted before. Just go vote! Virginia makes it easy!
That's it!
Even if you don't bring ID to the polls, you can sign a statement, cast your provisional ballot and bring your ID to the local election board by noon on this Friday Nov 8.
VOTE!
Just wondering if I should try shopping here or just drive down to charlottesville
Boyfriend is visiting and I’m looking for free/inexpensive things for us to do around here. Any good ideas?
Hey girlies!!! I haven’t gotten properly sized for a bra since VS was in the mall & it’s time for a new one. Any suggestions of somewhere to go in Harrisonburg for getting properly sized and/or good quality bras? Also open for a bit out of town too if you just have any suggestions for that. Thanks in advance!!! <3333
I feel like some parties should be expected but every weekend during the day?
This is a more recent thing as most parties happened during the night years ago.
Does the city council honestly find this okay?
Like seriously did I miss something here…?
