Padded Hammocks

I had a La Siesta Colobri Padded hammock. I used it as an underquilt for camping but also as a regual hammock on chillier days. It was quiet a usefull setup, with the only drawback being that it's packed size made it somewhat annoying to carry aorund.

Unfortunatly it got stolen and I found out that they no longer sell it.

I'm not really sold on underquilts, cause you can't use them without a hammock. I kinda liked having a padded hammock and benefting from the dual usage.

I'm searching for alternatives now and it seems hard to find something like the Colibri Padded. Anyone has any ideas?

How to make a thinner underquilt warmer

Hi all, I currently have a OneTigris underquilt for the warmer months. I am going to buy a -10c UQ soon but before I can get that is there a way to make my summer UQ warmer for an impromptu camp trip? I have a summer sleeping bag (2 degree celsius) I was thinking I could layer between the OneTigris UQ and the hammock, with a warm mummy bag to sleep in. Has anyone tried this before and thoughts?

Eno SuperNest Bug Net

Hello! I received a Eno SuperNest hammock and am super excited! I have it all hung up and everything but I live out in the woods and it’s about to be bug season. Any recommendations for a bug net that will fit my new hammock? Also, any accessories or must have?

Has anyone had any successful trips to warmer parts of Europe?

I took my hammock out to Scotland last month and the evening was ok, but when the wind came through in the morning my arse was chill to say the least, even with an underquilt! Tarp set up could have been better, but I''m not sure how to adjust a tent shape on a gradient. Anyway I'd love to get away somewhere warm before flights get summer holiday expensive.

DD Underblanket + Sleeping bag comfort rating. Can I go lower temp on the bag?

The DD Underblanket is rated for -5C (20F) and I am looking for a compact sleeping bag/quilt to go with it.

Lets say temperature is a constant +5C (40F) throughout the night and wind is not a factor. As the rating is -5C (20F) on the DD Underblanket, can I go for a topquilt/bag of about 10C (50F) comfort? I will be wearing base layers + suitable clothes.

My question is basically if a higher comfort rating of an underquilt can cancel the difference of a lower rated sleeping bag? If this don't work, will a sleeping bag used as a blanket double the insulation?

Upgrade completed

Using hitch adapter and hammock stand found online, my outback now offers the ability to cruise and snooze. It's gonna be a lovely summer.

Help with under quilt.

I’d like to get under quilts for my hammocks. Problem is, all I use are 90 degree hammocks supported down each side instead of the traditional head and foot. I’m thinking that my best bet will be to find a down water resistant camping blanket and attach with either tarp clips or install grommets down the sides. Let me know if you can come up with a better idea. Thanks for your kind input!

Looking for good hammock cocoon

I've been looking everywhere for a replacement for an old hammock cocoon system and I'm clear out of luck. Apparently the manufacturer no longer produces it and I can't find anywhere that might still sell it. Any help to find a solid replacement would be incredibly appreciated.

OneTigris Storm Bug Underquilt Underblanket

My ex's dogs managed to chew through a tent just to tear my old one up. I had the 8 foot long version. Again any help to either find a suitable replacement or suggestions on a similar product would be just the best.

What's with the price difference between these two hammocks

I understand that the chameleon has the ability to have its sides pulled out, but besides that I'm not sure.

Thanks!

TQ vs sleeping bag

For those of you who’ve used both a top quilt and a sleeping bag, what have you found to be the pros and cons of each and what do you typically stick with? I use a 40 degree bag and Ive be been perfectly fine with a 40 degree UQ and that down to about 38 degrees. Obviously sleeping bags are a bit more hassle to get into, and I’m also wondering if a TQ will take up less space in general for packing.

Single or double layer?

For those who own the warbonnet blackbird, are you using the double layer and slipping anything in between?

I'm not excited about the extra $200 for an underquilt if wool bedroll I already own will work between the layers. I typically camp in warm weather.

Hammock stand recommendations

Hi there, I recently backed the crua wrap around V2 bundle. I had thought I could pick up a stand but apparently the car stand doesn't deliver to the UK.

I believe it's this hammock (https://www.cruaoutdoors.com/products/crua-koala-maxx). I'm looking for a reliable portable stand that will work for this.

Looking for the Good Hammocks

New here, always loved camping, go regularly and absolutely love it. Looking for a camping hammock, as the y are very lightweight and small, plus nicer to pack for SUP trips.

What are the best ones in Australia for really less than 300. Hennessy looks nice, and I’ve heard Kammok and Eno have some reliability issues. Any other recommendations would be super nice.

EDIT: I’m 5 foot 6 and about 55kg.

EDIT 2: Thank you so much for all the suggestions. Warbonnet costs 70 to ship to Aus, so i will go with the Dutchware hammok. 200 dollars total, and I already have a tarp :).

Am I too big for an Eno Double nest?

Hi all, I just recently stumbled upon the world of hammock camping and am starting to worry that my Eno Double nest may be too small for me. For context I'm 6'2, 240lbs and have some pretty wide shoulders. I'm a pretty finicky sleeper and like to be able to stretch my legs out when sleeping. If y'all don't think this'll work out does anyone have any recommendations? Preferably something that wouldn't break the bank so maybe in the ballpark of $100 (cheaper is better)?

Thanks for any input or advice!

Amok Draumr questions!

Hi everyone! I'm new to hammock camping, but the Amok Draumr has caught my eye and everyone says they sleep so well in it. I have a couple questions though

  1. I'm almost exactly 5' 11" tall (just a hair over). Their site says the Standard is for people up to 5' 11". Is anyone else this height and know if the Standard would be enough or would it be too small?
  2. Where do you store your backpack/extra gear while also keeping it off of the ground and under the tarp? Would something like this work or do you have any other suggestions? (since this is currently sold out) https://kammok.com/products/joey-hammock-gear

Thanks!

Inexpensive Hammock

Hi, I am looking for an inexpensive hammock preferably under $50. The catch is that I don’t want to buy one from China. Does anyone know of any good brands/ specific hammocks that aren’t made in China?

Thanks in advance!

Self-inflating sleeping mat?

Hey, would a hammock work with a self-inflating sleepIng mat? I just bought a DD Hammock (cheap thing, the recycled one), it will arrive tomorrow. I already have a decent sleeping mat. How feasible is it to get a good nights sleep in that with a self-inflating sleeping mat?

Surprised by a hail storm

Yesterday evening I was surprised by a hail storm. No warning on the weather reports. I suddenly realized that I can go kite surfing on this sea! I went back to my car just to realize that I couldn’t go back to the main road. The dead end road was blocked by two tree falling from the storm. They were not falling trees 2 h before. Luckily I am in Sweden and the friendly farmer get rid of both HUGE trees so that I could drive to a safe place.

First time overnight in a hammock

First time sleeping in a hammock overnight. I’m definitely hooked. Got down to 41F and my wool blanket kept me pretty toasty. Definitely going to look into a longer (11ft) hammock.

Winter camping gear

What does everyone use for their “winter hammock camping gear”? I live in Northern, WI and would more than likely look to camp in that general area or the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, so it can get pretty gnarly! More than likely wouldn’t go out past below 0.

For all you winter campers, what are your preferred TQ/sleeping bag along with UQ for those 0-30 degree ranges? Any other winter hammocking tips are appreciated!

What knot is this and is there a quicker/simpler way this could be connected using clamps?

Hi, just trying to figure out the name of this knot, it's for connecting a tree hammock.

Is there also something else I could buy, like clamps or something that would allow me to setup much quicker?

Honest opinions on One Wind hammock tarp?

Hello hammock gang, I'm looking for honest reviews on the One Wind 12ft hammock tarp. I'm looking to get a tarp with doors since I will be camping at a kids camp this summer for two weeks straight. I'm a lazy camper and I'd prefer to change under my tarp then in my hammock(since its a pain in the ass) the main problem is that my current tarp doesn't have any doors. This usually isn't a problem when further away from people but this camp is pretty populated. I want to get other options aside from whats on the website, amazon and youtube.

Is the 12ft Chameleon wide overkill

Im deciding which Chameleon to get and i am leaning towards getting either the 12ft but as its longer and wider is it just overkill? Im 6ft 2 and about 80kg and like to sleep on my side. Am i better off just getting the wide?

How to lay comfortably with a sleeping pad?

So i got me a "onewind 11' hammock" and it's really nice and all without anything in it. but the nights get quite cold here in sweden before we are deep into summer so i need to sleep with one of those gray thick laying pads.

And so my problem is that when laying on it in the hammock i cannot shift around with it as it sticks to the hammock. so when i try to twist myself to find that flat lay or whatever you call it the mat is just all over the place and it's giving me a sense of annoyance that keeps me from relaxing.

How do yall do it? Also my clothes get all twisted when i try to shift around on the thing, really frustrating

Tarp size for 12ft Chameleon

I am getting the 12ft Chameleon and was wondering if the 11ft hex tarp is still gonna provide enough coverage? Am i better off getting the 12ft tarp to match? Thanks:)
