Hello fellow fans of the show! Used to watch a little Bonanaza, I dig the twilight zone so when I seen Gunsmoke decided to give it a shot. It’s my favorite so far, I think I like how linear it is. Only Matt and Chester for the most part (I’m mid season 1 so far) i love the sets (especially his office) and the gun battle scenes are pretty cool. Truly glad I found this gem of A show.
Well I made it to Festus today. Season 3 episode 20 Sunday Supplement.
So is that it for Chester? He is there and then gone? I also noticed that this episode the beginning scene was done a little differently and there were more angles of the set.
What is your ALL time favorite episode of our beloved Gunsmoke? I know it is hard to pick just one.
The Gunsmoke Channel went dark around 11:00 pm on Friday night.
Update: Sorry to upset you folks. It went down last night and the schedule had disappeared. It is back for me this morning.
Is this the best Festus episode? Ken Curtis is brilliant: like a kid waiting for Christmas as he waits for Doc to take him fishing; hilariously moping after crusty old Doc rejects him out of hand; then absolutely distraught; and back to chipper again as the plot unfolds and he gets a little bit of his own back on a complaining and embarrassed Doc (trying to avoid spoilers). As a bonus there is an excellent sub-plot with Matt and the perfectly edgy Victor French. Another good plot with some interesting twists and turns.
I believe this is from season 18 and the episode is The Drummer I believe. It’s a really good episode!
I really enjoyed this episode, in particular the way the plot twists and turns but also the fact that the eponymous character is very human, although it does get a bit silly at the end. I was not surprised to see it is one of the best rated episodes on IMDB.
Hey folks of Dodge!
I’ve been a fan of the old radio shows for a couple of years now, thanks to YouTube. Recently, I started watching the TV show on Peacock (great quality, by the way), and something’s been on my mind.
Compared to the radio show, the TV version feels a bit... lighter? The radio show always had this gritty edge to it—like, not everyone got a happy ending. Sometimes nobody did, and it left you with this heavy, thought-provoking themes.
The TV show, on the other hand, seems more lighthearted at times or avoids digging into the darker, more serious topics that the radio show wasn’t afraid to explore.
Is it just me, or has anyone else noticed this too?
Matt and Kitty’s vacation is interrupted and they end up escorting a dangerous outlaw, Monk Wiley, by stagecoach, back to Dodge for trial. The stagecoach is sabotaged and wrecks(yes with Kitty on it), Tate Crocker’s outlaw gang approaches. Matt is unconscious. Kitty puts Matt’s badge on Monk Wiley and deceives the outlaws. Since they don’t get enough money from the robbery, the gang hatch a plan to use the Marshal. When Matt wakes up, he catches on and goes along with Kitty’s story…. But then Monk Wiley wakes up and the truth is found out. Kitty wants the people of Dodge to raise ransom money for Matt’s life.
i just love Jean Arthur, she was in so many great movies and i know she was pretty big in her time, but she doesn't seem much remembered in modern times. she appeared in the episode "Thursdays Child" which is just great, with lots of emotion & action, and tragedy. just one of the best episodes IMO. any one else like this episode?
