Is this Gretsch’s equivalent to Fender’s neck pocket cracks and Gibson’s notorious headstocks? I’ve only had two Gretsch guitars come through my hands, and both had this wear/damage. Wondering how common it is.
My g5220 hums, and gets worse as the volume on the guitar is turned down. It does not go away when the volume is off. It only goes away if I am touching a metal part of the guitar. I took it to guitar center to have it looked at, but it did not do it there. It seems to only do it in my house, and this is my only guitar that does this. What could be causing this?
I love everything about this guitar except the controls. Coming to this thing from telecasters that are dead simple: 1 volume. 1 tone. Are all these knobs necessary? Master volume is essentially on or off. Some advice on how to tame this thing. Do people just leave the master all the way up and work with the independent volumes? Seems far more complicated than should be the case.
Anyone ever just replace the master volume with a linear taper pot to get aome nuance out of it?
Be careful with Gretsch resonators. You will not get answer from Gretsch/Fender, if you send email with pictures to show how poorly these resonators are being built. These are not finished/polished at all. Gluemarks and stains being left there and there, one screw in handguard was tightened in a 45 degrees angle and not straight (lol).
They are handcrafted in China. My local guitar technician wasn't happy at all. After cutting off the original strings for changing new ones, the nut felt off (so it was like not-glued at all). Also the original cuts in the bridge were not done right.. so my guitar guy built a new bridge from a scratch to the biscuit cone, and honed the cuts like they should be. He also said that "someone probably honed the frets with his left hand" (meaning some of the frets after 12th fret were honed purely flat, and not little round like they should be. I'm not 100% sure if this was made by Gretsch, or the shop where I ordered this guitar).
Also the shop where I ordered this, said that "they have raised the strings by setting truss rod", but my local guitar tech said that there was nothing that could be done for the string action, without touching a bridge or nut. Setting the truss rod couldn't raise the strings enough, and it is not the right way to raise string height in resonators anyway AFAIK.
I can't get rid of the buzz sounds either. Now the buzz comes with the open lowest D-string (I play in Open D). Before setupping it came with many strings when playing around 5th fret. Strange. Gonna bring it back to guitar tech in a few weeks.
I started playing guitar and taking lessons earlier this year and have been on an acoustic guitar to date, but have had my eyes on Gretch hollow-body electrics in the $500-600 range. I was looking at buying a new G2622T or G2420T. However, I've seen a handful of the nicer, Electromatic models on Facebook marketplace selling in that range.
Is it worth taking a risk buying used? For those who buy used, do you ask to have a guitar shop inspect it first?
Trying to decide which route to go, but this is all new territory for me. Appreciate any and all advice!
Does anyone have a spare G2220 Jr. Jet pickup? Or do you know where you can buy one? (No, they are not on reverb or eBay)
Thought I’d introduce my 2012? LH Tim Armstrong guitar. Bought on Kijiji from an older fella who had no idea who Tim Armstrong was. Happen to find that strap on the way home at the closest music shop. Any other lefties know the pain of not being able to find a decent guitar at a good price. Got lucky with this one! Open to name suggestions!
This guitar’s been my dream for such a long time! I can’t believe I finally have one lol
Hello, Folks.
Just got a 1956 streamliner a couple of days ago. What makes me kinda curious is the pickguard, which has not any logo and the hex screw holes. And the knobs are all in arrow symbols but not the traditional 'G' engraved. To my knowledge, these knobs are for country club models and some of the very early models, perhaps the ones dated back before 55'. Any help would be appreciated.
For another question, this is my first full lacquer guitar and it is pretty sticky in the neck area. How do you keep a clean and glossy look there? Since I heard the cleaner&polish liquid would leak into the wood.
Man, she's a looker.
This is my first gretsch so not sure if it’s normal I feel like it’s higher than my strat but
Like the title says, I'm currently looking at these two guitars cause I need a double cutaway semi hollow. I don't have many guitar stores around my area to try them out even tho I'd love to. I play jazz, blues and occasionally heavier rock styles. I like the brightness of the gretch but to my ears the 335 is way more versatile, at the same time I believe I'd have an easier time playing the gretsch due to the smaller neck profile. Any suggestion?
The other guitar has two humbuckers.
Thinking about taking this Gretch Jr Jet Clubber and swapping that humbucker for another P90. To make a greater contrast between how my guitars sound.
What are the pros and cons of a dual P90 setup?
Picked this up from Guitar Center last night (Only online store I could find it at, sorry to Chris at Sweetwater).
It definitely does the jazzmaster thing with the rhythm circuit engaged. Coming from the Stumpomatic, I always found its killswitch had a noticeable clicking sound in the signal when used, making it less ideal for using it mid song for effect. The momentary killswitch on this model is much smoother.
Can't wait to show up to band practice without telling anyone beforehand that I got this haha.
Is this floating fretboard intentional design or is something seriously wrong? Plays fine
I brought a gretsch streamliner g2622 in india. And recieved it with two different pickups. Is it even possible?? Or somebody swapped it? Dealers says it came like this from the factory.
I’m kinda new to this.
Is it the anniversary 6118 that’s the first to have genuine pickup upgrades? Or am I missing something?
Hey guys I am curious on triple hallow body gretsch guitar. I hear it’s good with the tone but just wanted your opinion. I found a market place deal for $400 w bigsby system, just curious if it’s worth the price?
Hi all. The volume pot on my 5655tg is sort of lame. Mostly just goes from no volume to one volume as you turn it up. No real sweep. Was thinking of upgrading the volume pot - what recommendations do you have? Appreciate it.
I bought a Gretsch 6120T55 last year and have been experiencing some buzz or harmonic ringing on the G string only. I’ve tried the action at different heights and made some adjustments to the truss rod tension aswell as a new Compton bridge but I’m still getting this frustrating ringing from the G string only. Any advice from anyone who has experienced the same issue?
